Y'all could've called this one 'Spencer ate' and leave it at that, it was SO AWESOME to watch him nail these deep cuts over and over again, having Shayne along for the ride was really good, because his amazement at Spencer's knowledge (and Alex in the background!) was really satisfying. Videos with Spencer are always a treat, he meshes so well with Shayne, Tommy and the Girls™️. I was honestly shocked at them for recognizing the most obscure games, but not *Signalis* . It was huge. At least Spencer came through with *SOMA* and *Vampyr* - I thought "No way, he has to know those." Calling Vampyr "not good" tho is a choice. It is a bit like a Witcher Game, but has the vibe of Pathologic.
I’ve watched both these videos back to back and it’s genuinely awe inspiring how slick with the guesses Spencer is. Shayne deffo has some highlight moments but goddam, the director of Smosh Games earns his title.

Spencer's appreciation of hotline miami made me very happy. As someone who generally considers himself a hardcore gamer, I am thoroughly impressed by the pure variety in Spencer's knowledge. I got a lot of the games but spencer just knew stuff from every conceivable corner of gaming history. At this point I'm convinced his Kickstart consumption has started planting the knowledge of gamers around the world into his head, one day he will be the doctor Manhatten of video game knowledge

In his defense, outside of BEYOND (I stand by it being phenomenal but its exception) and arguably parts of DETROIT, Cage's games are.....divisive. Heavy Rain had some notorious elements to it that hurt its quality/finely aged aspects, and Detroit had some flagrant writing problems from what I heard. I genuinely think BEYOND was sort of a fluke for Cage, its just genuinely such a good story and a good game and unique yet similar enough to be easily grasped by most. Page and DeFoe's performances also were just beyond phenomenal (not to mention the replayability of it for the choice variances)
A 72% is low by today's standards, most people don't wanna touch anything under 85% now. Vampyr's score is pretty accurate but I'd still say it's worth trying
It's not wild to think David Cage games are bad. He makes compelling drama with awful writing. His games do get better at implementing a narrative style choose-your-own-adventure but the gameplay doesn't allow for anything besides move around and make some dialogue choices.

I really appreciate the subtle additions of the game's themes. Whenever they'd guess one outright or one that seemed difficult, the them of the game was edited in as well. A lovely touch!
