Hey, bro. A lil advice from one grower to the next…. To get more taters. Trim back the foliage before it get to that level. You only want vines/leaves to grow enough to Cover the area that your expecting to grow/produce taters. Your taters shoots put more energy into the leave & foliage than taters. You can control that by “topping” or cut off leading shoots that grow outside of your taters growing area. Also, the soil need to be really really porous or lose so that the tater shoots don’t have to work hard to break thru the soil to grow bigger. Lastly, add boat loads of compost. Taters love compost. And I would suggest making your tater rows higher or build them higher. Example. Make beds 2ft wide, 20ft long and 3-4 high. High pile are easy for taters to grow easier to harvest. Just a thought. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Yes it sure helps, commercial growers have a flail mower that straddles the rows and the prune.

We didn't plant this year because it was our seventh year planting in one location ,we also had a high rats population problem and moles we used a product call Killer rats seed and Ace Hardware , next we are gonna smoke them out but we have seen several rats and more died all of the moles are gone but if you have dogs or cats I don't think this product is safe for them to be around. Great harvest, great video keep them coming!💯👍🏿

The mounds look like their a bit sandy soil? I'm trying my hardest to get these things going here. so far, not much at all, close to nothing. Husband will once in a while bring me a pea pod. lol I just keep saying, maybe next year. It's a lot of hard work for sure, well worth it though. Keep up the good work.

You are a big part of what got me to grow again this year. I am glad I did. Even with limited resources, I produced more this year than the last few combined. My neighbors would thank you if they could. 😁 If you catch him, he's compost. 😄 You got some massive potatoes this year. Its amazing seeing so many potatoes together as one. Great growing! 🙌

I'm thinking you need a farm cat. My local SPCA has a working animal program. You should see if yours does too. A farm cat or rat terrier may be your solution for next year. When you planted, you'd said you expected to be feeding you and them. You still got a good harvest despite that rodent.

I feel like you can still use the ones the "pests" nibbled on...cut off the end that was eaten far enough into tater to feel comfortable, peal, boil and add brown sugar and apple pie spices and little bit of butter.....wonderful candied yams...........also any that you accidently scratch can be used the same way.........
