NBA is an entertament industry, and Jordan was the best entretaner, he could score in many different ways, even over taller opponents, defend, with steals and blocks, and great ball handling. Then he started winning. People pay to see a star player or a winner, he was both, NBA attendance double as soon as he became a pro, and that goes for international basketball too.
Watch last :41 of Game 6 1998 Finals with Bulls down by 3 when Pippen was hobbled by back injury to see MJ’s will to win. Jordan acts like he’s going to pull up for jumper then blows passed Russel for easy layup. Down by 1. Then MJ sneaks from weak side to steal ball from Malone posting up Rodman. Jordan doesn’t call time out where Utah can figure out how to defend Bull’s last shot. MJ drives to free throw circle & swishes clutch shot to go up by a point with about 5 seconds left. Stockton misses top of key shot. Bulls win 6th championship. That sequence defines greatness. MJ’s determination to succeed was & is unmatched. Simply THE G.O.A.T.
Totally agreed. I've said this in most channel. When I watched MJ saying to Phil, "I never gave up, I never gave up..." in the last episode of winning his last final, I swear it's so inspirational I had chills. This is the greatness mentality that not any 'great player' could ever achieved. #MJ the 🐐
One of the things about Michael that people don't realize. Great players are working their way up to 32 points per game. MJ had to turn it down to get to 32 PPG.
What Jackson told MJ is what Bird and Magic knew out of the gate. It has to be a team where all the players are involved. You can stop one guy, you can't stop five.
Charles Tan yes but to be the greatest you never should lost a finals appearance. And MJ did that. Simple. Period. Lol! Your QUEEN also started younger. Any logic? Lol
I think what people miss in what Phil said about Jordan is when Jordan was a more individualistic Stat machine early in his career the pistons beat him up and were able to get past him in the playoffs. When Jordan reduced his Stat stuffing role and started playing more team ball he became a legendary champion.
Bulls lost a coin toss for rights to draft Magic. Rod Thorn usually called "tails" out of basketball superstition but that night he called "heads" and the Lakers ended up getting the greatest point guard of all time
A huge part of being a coach is watching the game from a far, from a Bird's Eye view. See what the players cannot see, from within the battle. Phil saw that Jordan was actually working too hard, and not utilizing the rest of team. Easier shots weren't taken. Opportunities were being missed, and defending the Bulls became too easy. He explained that to Mike.
Jordan was such a GOAT, Phil had to teach him that his teammates are all NBA players that can help him win. Even sub-par NBA players when combined right can help a superstar to a championship.
@@ealicer81 phil needed players around him just like jordan did. jordan would have been the best player in the league with or without phil. what phil gave to jordan was the know-how to win and to get the most out of his team mates by actually trusting them to play their role. at the end of the day, you can't win by yourself.
I disagree. MJ would have been great regardless. But these 2 teaming up maxed out both of their abilities as coach and player. The Perfect storm for dominance.
Jordan took less shots at North Carolina, less shots at the Olympics in 84, less shots on the Dream Team, he WAS concerned with winning first. His shot selection was all in order to win. A guard shooting over 50% is not taking bad shots.
coach allowed all the "Main" players to win at all costs period! Quit on the team, mehhhh you play the majority of minutes when you come back, extended Vegas trip, take it and you will play over the guys who play the game right because you will help us "Win" at all cost! and on on on for 6 rings.
Before Phil Jackson MJ led teams couldn’t get out of the first round in the playoff. There is a reason why MJ is known for only 6 years of his career 15 year NBA career.
@@Hinshu85 Phil didn't get Michael. Michael and Scottie were already on the Bulls and Phil was an assistant before being promoted to HC after Doug Collins was let go.
It was still a 2-sided coin….the players MJ had to trust always…BETTER hit them shots…it made the game so much easier for MJ to use his ability to make others on his teams threats…this is why them Bulls practices were wars behind closed doors. Players today talk about load management and taking off a day on a back to back…but them Bulls were busy killing each other in practice…different kind of mentaloty facing them Bulls at the time. Like Vernon Maxwell would say…you had to eat right, get plenty of rest amd still you get nightmares knowing you gotta face MJ and the crew the next day…the 90s were just different.
I do not like John Salley. I think he thinks he knows more about basketball than others because he played. He just doesn’t make sense in some of his conversations with other tv outlets. He says Scottie is more talented than MJ in a skill set. What? Just don’t like him. Tell me I’m wrong.
Michael Jordan was going to be an all time great top 10 player ever but Phil made hiM the GOAT because he was able to unlock the best version of MJ. People always say “Jordan won nothing without Pippen” and that’s true but he also won nothing without Phil
Jordan's first MVP season came in 1988 (Before Phil Headchoaching the Bulls). He led the Chicago Bulls to a 50-win season. He played all 82 games, led the league in scoring (35.0 points), minutes (40.4), and steals (3.2). He became the first player to ever win the MVP and DPOY award the same season.
It probably took Jordan longer than most to realize he needed to share the ball more to maximize his success because his abilities meant he could often break that rule. He was so good that he usually could go against 3 guys and still score efficiently. Guys with less abilities immediately realize their limitations because playing hero ball won't work for them, but it often could with Jordan; his scoring abilities were so insane that he could get away with it. In fact, he could get away with it as much as or more than anyone who ever played, so in that sense his accepting a more team-oriented approach was inherently harder for him to come to terms with than for literally anyone else. This dynamic is epitomized in Steve Nash's answer to Kobe's question, "How do you trust your teammates so much?": "I have to."
If Bron could have been fortunate enough to have had this guy as is coach during his prime years no telling what we'd be saying about him now "BUT" he wasn't that fortunate but he still did good but not good enough to be the Goat🤣🤣🤣👎

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, his style and technique basketball fundamental attest to it and even his copycat kobe bryant is among as one of the best.
Nope, Wilt is the GOAT.
Michael Jordan + Phil Jackson = Michael Jackson
lol XD
Where did Phil Jordan go?
Get that Michael Jackson nonsense outta here.
Wtf 😍😝
@J J MJ 23, you know I'm Bad, I'm Bad......and the whole world got the answer right now just to tell you once again I'm Bad.
Phil Jackson is a teacher in life
Basically, when Phil had this conversation with ML, only once did a player win a scoring title and a NBA Title in the same year. It was Kareem in 1971. The odds were against you, unless you are The GOAT
Why was this so short? I was getting ready with my tea to sit down and enjoy the show and it ended.
It is a clip from this longer video also in the channel, but here it is:
ua-cam.com/video/LhsJde3W1Qc/v-deo.html
LiveTalksLA, thank you so much for your kindness. I truly appreciated what you did for me by posting the full video of The interview of Phil Jackson by John Salley. Thank you again.
No one has ever won a scoring title and NBA title in the same year. MJ did it 6 times. Crazy.
I don't understand people who put Lebron over Kobe.
I agree!
I also think Bird was better then LBJ.
His new highlight video is great.
media propaganda
As great as Kobe was, after 3-peating while still a young and healthy player, the Kobe led Lakers teams went through seasons where they were nearly punching bags of the league.
After his 2nd season, whenever LeBron was healthy, no matter the personnel, his team was never in the bottoms.
@@mobetta2092 Yeah Kobe 3peated at 22 years of age. #lmao. Kobe's lakers went through a dry period after shack left from 2005 to 2007. Thats 3 years of not making the Finals. In 2008, Kobe was back in the Finals yet again and won again in 2009 & 2010 to add to his WINNING FINALS RECORD of 5-2. Thats 5 Championships. Lebron only has 4 with a Losing Finals Record. Kobe has a 3peat and Lebron has No 3peat. Kobe has a Dynasty and Lebron has No Dynasty. #lmao
@@jaydubb2005 this. As good as lebron is, he never seems to take the team on his shoulders unless he has great teammates to make him look better. Kobe never was afraid of dragging his team to the win in any way, and he was willing to fight his way to the top instead of trade to it
Phil was the reason MJ min got cut he could score 30+ in 3quarters and have a seat 💺
Both of these guys were able to push MJ to be even greater then he was!
Last dance, last episode when they show phil walk up to mj after winning. Phil was literally shocked at what he had just witnessed.
Totally agreed. I've said this in most channel. When I watched MJ saying to Phil, "I never gave up, I never gave up..." in the last episode of winning his last final, I swear it's so inspirational I had chills. This is the greatness mentality that not any 'great player' could ever achieved. #MJ the 🐐
@@mrloop1530 vice versa
@@jeypo85 it was also raw. Just plain what mj and Phil said
Phil was the all-time best
This interview is funny, I love hearing about these stories.
2:20 Michael Jordan won the Scoring Championship every single year that the Bulls won the Finals
MJ Goat period
Scoring tittle
Defensive player ..Era full of hall of famer
Mvp league
Mvp final
Should I say more
Jordan is the GOAT.
Phil’s face lights up at the acknowledgment of John saying he’s a doctor j fan…
Doug Collins was in love with Michael, Phil just simply loved Michael and that's why they won championships.
One of the things about Michael that people don't realize. Great players are working their way up to 32 points per game. MJ had to turn it down to get to 32 PPG.
Phil is the GOAT coach 🐐
I just wish he turned out to be even 1/2 GOAT team president.
@@spinedoc18 Not everyone can achieve what Jerry West did - be succesfull on both roles . Even MJ was unable to get it right.
@@spinedoc18 Micheal is a bum chairman but he is the goat of basketball
In his last Finals appearance, Jordan demonstrated to all why there is I in WIN.
He can help you solve your problem, he helped me bring my ex-lover back
What Jackson told MJ is what Bird and Magic knew out of the gate. It has to be a team where all the players are involved. You can stop one guy, you can't stop five.
oh yeah? bwahhaaaahahahhaaa. wow.
Bird and Magic had better teams out of the gate. Check all of their teammates as rookies.
Bird and magic came in with hall of famer teammates Jordan came in with no all stars stop it
Phil was my favorite coach in my list
Mj is the GOAT 🐐🐐🐐👌
How? Lebron has more points than him.
signor pops lebron has more trips to the finals too right thats why hes goat :P
Charles Tan yes but to be the greatest you never should lost a finals appearance. And MJ did that. Simple. Period. Lol! Your QUEEN also started younger. Any logic? Lol
I think what people miss in what Phil said about Jordan is when Jordan was a more individualistic Stat machine early in his career the pistons beat him up and were able to get past him in the playoffs. When Jordan reduced his Stat stuffing role and started playing more team ball he became a legendary champion.
Phil understood the assignment - his job was to coach Michael’s mindset first then his athletic skills second.
Can anyone imagine if Jordan had Shaq?
Harper, Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Shaq.
That'd be an even more unstoppable team than they already were
Z Moe they would have been unstoppable for sure but I think Shaq would of taken away some of mj’s greatness
@@clam741 nah, the best way to compliment a good shooting guard is to have a good center...MJ would've averaged more points and gotten more assists.
Bulls lost a coin toss for rights to draft Magic. Rod Thorn usually called "tails" out of basketball superstition but that night he called "heads" and the Lakers ended up getting the greatest point guard of all time
He did not need him. He got the best companion Scottie Pippen. He is also one of the best player of all time.
Salley will never say Jordan is the GOAT. He is a Bad Boy, Jalen already touched on this.
He needs to acknowledge JORDAN as the GOAT! Rodman already has!
@@emedina73 All day. I agree. He gives that credit to Pippen. Pip is top ten in my book but even Pip will tell you MJ reigns supreme.
Zen Master Phil!
When Phil says “Michael” he sounds like dr. Loomis when he’s speaking about Michael Myers lol
He explained that to Mike.
watch 98 finals game 6 last 5 mins u ll see why he is the goat
Jordan was such a GOAT, Phil had to teach him that his teammates are all NBA players that can help him win. Even sub-par NBA players when combined right can help a superstar to a championship.
The "Zen Master."🙌🏽
Funny how he switches up when coach in the building..even tho he avg 47 against the Pistons
Its clear that Jordan disregarded Phil's idea of how to win, and showed Phil that he could do it his way.
Coach's need to incorporate the triangle in their offense, they'd be much more lethal if they did.
Fire the sound guy !
Nobody had to explain to Russell, Magic or Bird that it was about winning championships.
Sound guy needs to EQ Phil Jackson’s mic better. Take out that hi end lol.
What about LeFlop? How would have he handled the triangle?
we all must realize that in those Bulls there were Goats .... one playing, one coaching
Notice he said trusting his teammates was the different, not Scottie Pippen.
Phil didn’t make MJ better cut the 💩 MJ made Phil
MJ accepted the triangle offense because of Phil.
phil made MJ a winner.
players put up stats, teams put up banners.
Yudo NeidaNo well Phil without MJ didnt put up any banner until MJ came back. Lol Phil and the Bulls were 31-34 in 95 before MJ came back
@@ealicer81 phil needed players around him just like jordan did. jordan would have been the best player in the league with or without phil. what phil gave to jordan was the know-how to win and to get the most out of his team mates by actually trusting them to play their role. at the end of the day, you can't win by yourself.
Kobe Supreme Confidence
Yes I understand music Vedic
🐐🏀🏆💪
Phil is the Zen Master
john realized this when he was on the bulls, not when he read the book!!!!!!!!!
coach allowed all the "Main" players to win at all costs period! Quit on the team, mehhhh you play the majority of minutes when you come back, extended Vegas trip, take it and you will play over the guys who play the game right because you will help us "Win" at all cost! and on on on for 6 rings.
That feedback from the mic is insufferable
A coach is only good as long as he have good player's to coach
man after helping out the knicks then bulls then lakers he should be taken care of by miami heat
Current Bulls team needs Zen Master back asap.
So if PHIL JACKSON doesn’t implement the TRIANGLE, MJ averages 38-40PPG? THE G.O.A.T.!!
Without the triangle they dont have 6 rings
Before Phil Jackson MJ led teams couldn’t get out of the first round in the playoff. There is a reason why MJ is known for only 6 years of his career 15 year NBA career.
When Phil talks about the Pistons beating up or Jordan and Salley goes... 😂😂
How many titles did MJ, Pippen, Shaq and Kobe win before Phil Jackson was their coach? Zero. Let it sink in.
How many rings Phil won as a coach before getting Michael? Zero.
@@Hinshu85 Phil didn't get Michael. Michael and Scottie were already on the Bulls and Phil was an assistant before being promoted to HC after Doug Collins was let go.
Come on Sally let phil have it. Please.
Should have asked phil about morton's steakhouse
Jordan still has the highest shots per game percentage than anybody in the history of the sport though 😂
Michael and Kobe weren't champions before him and were never champions after him.
Kareem.
Good argument.
All day.
Who’s running audio? Mic is feeding back
I do not like John Salley.
@@arielgarcia2642 Yes he was a great player before Phil. No doubt inner circle HOF trajectory. But Phil helped him become the GOAT.
@@iloveresses7277 No doubt my man. I was just point it out.
Wait so Phil basically saying mike the 🐐 cause he trusted his teammates 😭 nobody had to tell lebr…nvm
God speedy?
John Salley is a little bitter.
That’s what hype hate & feeble mindednesses will do to you!
“Who da fook is this guy” - Connor Mgregor
Phil was tired, that’s why there wasn’t a 7th championship run.
Ok, there's one of mj's masters. That's what phil called himself. You didn't know. Do your homework.
If Bron could have been fortunate enough to have had this guy as is coach during his prime years no telling what we'd be saying about him now "BUT" he wasn't that fortunate but he still did good but not good enough to be the Goat🤣🤣🤣👎
I hated the Pistons but John Sally was and is a complete class act!!
Michael had a limited view point on his own teammates.
I guess the next GOAT challenger will be a player who lifts up the team.
Who could that be?
He did it with David Stern and the refs, that how he made him a winner. (Help) Donahue, the cheating ref ( remember him) was told, with other refs dont call on mj. Called jordan rules, remember that. Detroit stand up. They bully that clown.
Proof that MICHAEL JORDAN was STAT PADDING and BALL HOGGING for that SCORING TITLE
