- I love this couple with all my heart. I tried to represent what they were and what they are still and what they'll always be.
Who would had ever imagine that someone could fell in love with a beast like Rumplestiltskin? Or who would had ever imagine that a beast like Rumplestiltskin could fell in love with someone?
Belle was always right about him. She saw the man behind the beast. She changed him. She taught him that love is power. She gave him a home.
And they'll live happily ever after. Together. After all they've been through.

I think the reason Rumple tried to originally deny his feelings was he let a woman in his heart once and was repayed with nothing but abuse and humiliation until eventually she broke it
That certainly plays a role...
But Rumple also knows that love is weakness and makes him vulnerable. The best example: when the evil queen tells Belle about the kiss of true love... and meanwhile he believes that he can no longer do without his power, because he is what he always was, a coward. But deep down inside he is very lonely and longs for love.
I've never seen such a complex and torn character before and Robert played it so brilliantly...
For sure. And if he loses his power he won’t be able to find his son (he believes he won’t). That’s his motivation for everything.

That may have been his motivation at first. But the fact is, he was used to power to cover up his cowardice. And he didn't want to give up power at any cost... he said himself "Power has become my crutch, I can't walk without it".
And frankly, I don't know how without his power, he would have survived the many confrontations he's had over his past actions....

Rumbelle is the best part of the show (in my opinion) but the writers keep screwing with the plot and make the characters make dumb choices and create conflicts for drama. So it's very frustrating to watch sometimes, but totally worth it in the end :)
Definitely do it! It gets whacky around season 4 but it’s got great characters. This is my favorite couple!
