  • Steve Harley, the frontman of British rock band Cockney Rebel, has died at the age of 73.
    His best known song was Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) which went to number one in the charts in 1975.
    The musician had still been touring until recently, but cancelled dates to have treatment for cancer.
    His family said Harley had "passed away peacefully at home", adding: "We know he will be desperately missed by people all over the world."
    London-born Harley lived on the Essex-Suffolk border with his wife Dorothy, with whom he had two children, Kerr and Greta. His family were by his side when he died.
    His birthday was last month on 27th February 2024.

    For all his 'singlemindedness' he was human, humble and honest. He never forgot his fans.
    We asked him once who Judy Teen was, and he replied that "she's whatever you want her to be." You made us happy Steve.

      I remember seeing him at the Jazz Cafe in 1998 (about 2 weeks after my daughter was born, I recall). Steve asked if there were ‘any requests’. My mate shouted out ‘Crazy Raver’. Steve replied, with a smile ‘you can fuck off, I’m not that young anymore’.

    Im American,late to Steves music (about 10 ,years) and i love his songs,gteat talent....RIP Steve.

    Loved his songs in the 70s. Knew all the words. Still got the cassette tapes of his albums. And took my daughter to see him in the early 2020s

      50 years after he first started. Not many artists you can do that with. I wish I had taken my daughter, she loves his lyrics. 🥲
