    Menace actually made total sense. It's to show that a human can't just continue abusing demonic power or else it will swallow him whole.

    I love Harmony of Dissonance, mainly because of the combat. I feel like it struck a perfect balance between the old school games and the Metroidvania ones, with stiff controls only when whipping in midair. It's not as fluid as SoTN, AoS, or the DS games, but I think that's its strength. The use of dashing to control spacing makes every fight fun to speed through, or take a ton of hits trying. Also, just because every element of its design has been done better, that doesn't mean the game is bad, especially when you are comparing it to outright masterpieces.

    • @laraa739
      @laraa739 7 років тому +9

      Also this sounds obvious but dashing in any direction is great. Just that. I loved it. I don't have to worry about dashing into an enemy any more. And dashing forward is super fast!

    The reasoning behind Dmitrii's Menace form was that he copied Soma's ability to absorb souls. He possesses all the souls that you have, but he tries to absorb them all at once, resulting in him losing control and becoming a monster that is a combination of EVERY SOUL IN THE GAME. If you think about it, its somewhat clever. In the fight in the Chapel, he copies the souls you use. Here, he does the same thing. They found a way to keep the mechanics similar without blatantly re-doing his previous fight

    I personally really liked the giant crab boss from Order of Ecclesia 😅 yes, it was kinda repetitive, and it can get boring when you just beat him over and over again in boss rush mode (which actually really slows you down when you're trying to get the best time possible on course 1 😂) but it wasn't really that boring for me when I first faced him, I mean, I had never faced a boss like that on another Castlevania game, so its nice that they were experimenting and trying out new stuff, and just like you said, the finisher was epic, Shanoa saying "Go to hell" in the calmest tone of voice was just priceless!

    I appreciate what Symphony of the Night tried to do with its reverse castle, letting you explore areas in whatever order you like. What I don't appreciate is going the "wrong" way, and running into Beelzebub.
    Then again, on that run, I was limiting myself by not using any weapons that would increase my range beyond punching.

      Grr! I TRIED to fight Beezeldump earlier and it was going fine until I took out the legs... after that, minions started to circle around him, rendering single use weapons useless, then they fly at you, dealing massive damage if they hit you, and just as you're ready to get some hits on Beezelpoop, he's already got new minions! I went in that fight with full health (418 at that point, I think) and I used EVERY food item I had, and most of my single use weapons, AND had a Level 38 Sword Familiar, as well as ridiculous stat boosts from items and Vlad parts and whatnot, yet I still died! And I'm pretty good at SotN!

    I love this whip slinging franchise even if it has ketchup suckers like these;
    10: Still better than the latest Mummy movie am I right??
    9: What even is going on here??
    8: On an unrelated note, Konami really seems to like Castlevania 1 with how much it pays homage to it's boss fights. Even Portrait of Ruin made them the bosses of the last act.
    7: I think the Doppelganger in Devil May Cry 3 is better.
    6: Harmony of Dissonance is a confusing mess in my opinion.
    5: Ah, Curse of Darkness. I played it for 3 days straight and beat it but it was both one of the most fun xbox games and one of the most frustrating action RPGs because of all the grinding and conditions you need to craft the best weapons. But whenever I got a new material, I got excited. As for the Dullalhan, I had the ring of protect against curses (or whatever it was called) before the fight so it was a bit easier for me.
    4: Oh come on! It's somewhat inferior predecessor had you fight Chaos itself!
    3: Well, Dracula can't always be awesome.
    2: It's also a pain in the ass during boss rush.
    1: Yep. Screw you, Konami. I still want a metroidvania based off this game... aside from Order of Ecclesia.

    The problem with Brachyura is the stalling. It's even worse when you do Boss Rush for helmets, and he single-handedly drags out the affair so long, you could probably beat the rest of the bosses each an amount of times in the double digits in the time it takes to deal with the overgrown Krabby.
    And Astarte doesn't make Jonathan useless. Just switch for Temptation, then switch back. She telegraphs it so far in advance you could order a pizza before it comes out.
    Also, CoD Dracula 1 is hilarious if you go at him with Hein. You can just bap him with the first hit over and over and get him in an infinite.

    Reading not strong suit QG? Cause if you actually read the story, Dimitri let his soul be capture by Soma in order to copy his power of Dominus. (spoilers) The final boss is an anlgamation of all the deamon souls that Dimitri had collected, which ended up badly for him because his copy Dominus is not as strong as Soma's power, which was Dracula's originally.

    Yeah, I know that Harmony of Dissonance has problems and all, but after years of just hearing Castlevanias on the hearsays, it was the first Castlevania that hooked me and got me going for a Castlevania charge. It always has a special place in my heart. Hence, my other nickname was Neo Juste Belmont. Though yeah, after going through other Castlevania games, it could have been better...
    Still, call it a personal guilty pleasure of mine.

    One more thing I forgot to mention. Between Rondo of Blood's and Symphony of The Night's Shaft, why do bitch about the Symphony of The Night version. Even though that ball he's in is a little eccentric, that's no excuse for what he did in the course of 5 years. He tried resurrecting Dracula and it was a win-win, successfully convinced Death, and either helped Dracula to possess Richter's body or Shaft did it himself just so they could make him look like he's turned from good and let the power go to his head. So in reality, there's no excuse to bitch about SOTN Shaft. Also give us actual reasons why you hate Harmony of Dissonance pls.

    Hmmm... if I had to pick one boss that I hated, it would be Dagon from Portrait of Ruin. Why? because the actual battle takes place underwater... in the ONLY part of the game where there's an underwater section. Yeah, the stage isn't in water either. It's the only boss with water involved.Although... Wallman, Blackmore and Eligor are annoying.- Wallman, because he's unbeatable... until you realize that you ONLY need to absorb his glyph to kill him.- Blackmore, because you have little room to maneuver, you're stuck in the leftmost wall.- Eligor, because it's a LOOOOONG boss the beat and there is no way to skip phases. You need to destroy any key point to get to its head.

    8:20, I HATE this Boss because he’s annoying, he robbed me of a Dimitri/Celia battle(although I knew he was the final Boss before I even played it) and he’s unmemorable. Another reason I prefer Aria of Sorrow.

    The things that come out of Menace, QG, look like the Langoliers from the Steven King novel and miniseries of the same name. They are monsters that devour time after it passes. (...yes it's as stupid as it sounds.) So there you go! Menace shoots out Langoliers at you! (Watch the Nostalgia Critic review for more details.)

    If Max Slimer was Salvo, Death 2nd form was the first boss from Strider. WTH!? I am kinda surprised you picked Max Slimer over Legion (Corpse), though.
    Also, Akmodan II from SCV4 was just Akmodan.

    for some reason a boss from "castlevania 64 legacy of darkness" comes to mind:
    it's not really hard or bad, but it's seriously unimaginative...
    IF you spend too much money buying stuff from the demon salesman during the entire game (30,000 gold, i think), then near the beginning of the final level he will turn into a monster and attack you.
    BUT...the resulting battle is almost EXACTLY like the "death" boss from the "clock room" level when playing as...i forget his name, the whip-wielder character.
    ONE new attack, NO other difference!

    I know this list is your opinion but for Dullahan it seems like you're just saying, "This boss is hard for me so it's a bad boss."
    His "unblockable attacks" can be perfect guarded easily enough, or just, y'know, dodge maybe?
    The shockwave that requires "pinpoint timing" to dodge can be double jumped over without much thought.
    Lastly, as for the steal window complaint, it's for forging one of the most powerful weapons in the game, why should it be easy to obtain?

    • @EliseArainai
      @EliseArainai 8 років тому +3

      He specifically stated that at the time he faced this boss, he was a completionist, meaning he felt the need to get through the game with 100% completion. Without that item he needed from the Dullahan fight, he wouldn't have been able to complete the game 100%, and because the steal window was ridiculously short, I can only imagine how many tries it took for him to finally get the item. It was that experience (along with the boss being pretty annoying on its own) that placed the boss on the list.
      I think people who watch these lists tend to forget that the entries are based on two things: the content creator's opinions AND their personal gameplay experiences. You might not always agree with them, but it's best to just plain accept it.

    The best way I found to beat the Doppleganger is Sypha's seeking globes. You see, you EXPLOIT the fact the Doppleganger always has the same weapon, rather than complain about it. He won't be able to compete using Sypha's fire attack. At least equally effective, is Trevor's Holy Water, and the same logic applies.

    Oh Dracula in Simon's Quest I always thought was deliberately made easy because the story is about Simon fighting his internal demons. Which was awesome. Dracula is just a ghost and a fragile image of a monster when Simon finally meets him. Even his castle is empty. The day and night scenes are just Simon hallucinating about Dracula's return.

    • @derrickhaggard7053
      @derrickhaggard7053 9 років тому

      Baigandine L I liked Ultimate Dracula from Legacy of Darkness not only for the boss fight itself but also the meaning behind it by fighting Dracula in his wolf form Cornell was showing he was will to sacrifice everything for Ada even her trust just to save her meaning he was willing to let her hate him for hiding the fact he was werewolf and leaving her after Dracula was killed if meant her safety won't be in jeopardy.
