I bought a PS4 from a thrift store for $80 once. I wasn't able to test it properly but it did turn on and seemed to accept discs properly. I brought it home and upon further testing I found that the disc drive was making a terrible grinding noise. It was a constant low humming noise consistent while the disc spun. It turned out the metal piece (that had the disc magnet) was slightly bent inward preventing the disc from spinning freely. After some disassembly I rebent the metal piece and it worked! I still use the PS4 today. Just some food for thought for anyone dealing with a similar symptom.
Loved the video. Have the same issue with some PS4 Pros. Changed all the fuses and things but didnt check to see if all the gears are in the drives. Outside of that I dont know what could be preventing things but this video gives me hope :)
You're welcome 😊 hopefully you're able to get them going. If you don't find any issues with the circuit and the drive all appears to be good it may be bad news (renensas may have failed) but only rule that out as a last resort

@TheCod3r I have the same issue , its not feeding the disc it is a slim the drive is reactless and its beeps when i push eject button, All the fuses are okay, no damaged capacitor or resistors to see with multimeter : ( How i can check id the BDIC9685 is broken or the renasis ic, how i can know if one of these is defective ? thx a big times 😞

It takes 3-4 attempts to accept the disk. Once it has accepted the disk then its working perfectly fine. I have cleaned my disks but its not helping me

What happens when the console is powered on the laser makes a ticking noise and can visually see the laser slightly moving up and down. I have even replaced the whole disk drive with a working one but same exact symptom! Have you ever came across this??

The white arm piece on the left that pulls the 3 barrel pieces down, it seems to be jammed above.
Everything seems to be ok here, I even changed the plate with the motor, and nothing. When I go to put the disk, everything is stuck, and it does not enter

I have a interesting case for you, So awhile ago when i Updated my ps4 slim to the 7.02 firmware the disk drive stopped working as before the update I was playing infinite warfare and it worked fine, now the beeping sound is sooo quiet you got to put you're ear near the console to hear the beep, it doesn't evan register a games been in it and it gets better Sony wanted £250 to replace the "disk drive" because without evan looking at it they said that was the fault, noow if they knew there update was causing problems then why didn't they give out free repairs for breaking consoles? 🤔 I bit the bullet and sent it off to a shop and they damaged the screws but I denied repair as they wanted £350 for a simple fix, now I got a console with a dead disk drive and mangled screws 🤦♂️ Edit: bare it in mind I can get a new ps4 slim for £230 to £240 ish maybe £200!!
Sounds to me like Sony are using their standard warranty get out clause. The typical "it sounds like a hardware failure" bullcrap. That said, if I understand correctly the "beep" that the system makes is very quiet. That would technically be a hardware fault if the console has excessive dust, as you'd be surprised by how simple the internal speaker is (it's literally a piece of moulded plastic and a piece of metal). Theoretically it can be a software issue, but I've never heard any reports of it. That said it wouldn't affect the system use so I guess most wouldn't care and just leave it as is. In terms of the disc not reading, that could be several things. It could be a drive issue of course, but it could also be related to the disc drive fuses, the renesas ic or the motor controller. There's no way anyone would possibly know what the issue was if they haven't looked at it in person. Tieing in with the dust on the speaker, the most common failure with fuses and the disc drive chips on the ps4 slim is down to prolonged overheating. A lot of the time I notice when there are chip or fuse issues the console is long overdue a service. While that may sound strange it does make sense when you think about it. Components have a minimum and maximum operating temperature. When the component reaches max temperature they can fail or become somewhat faulty. The ps4 can very easily reach 90⁰C to 100⁰C within seconds if not adequately cooled. Prolonged heat can cause the ICs and fuses to reach maximum operating temperature and fail (i.e the fuses burning out). Finally, I know this is a long reply but in terms of cost, I personally believe no more than £80 should be paid regardless of the fault. If renesas has failed it's no fix. If one of the fuses have failed it should be £40 maximum (I timed myself changing F6202, it took 27 minutes start to finish). If the disc drive has failed a brand new disc drive is between £40-£50 depending on the model. £30 - £40 labour should suffice for what will be around a 40 - 60 minute job to replace
@@TheCod3r Sony are just gready people in my eyes once something goes bad they either charge you an arm a leg in repairs or simply cancel the warranty and say it's not active but if I ever decided to get it fixed in future would you ever be interested in having a look? You could evan feature it in a video and I'd gladly pay of course, would be interesting to see what's at fault inside but I'd also send new OEM screws with it so they can be replaced as they got screwed up by the last place :) It's a PS4 SLIM!!!!
This video is definitely useful but doesn't quite help the dilemma I'm in though. So I had bought a new game to play on my ps4, and played it for about an hour, then I was told i needed to updated it. So I let update then i get an error say that the updated file didnt install. So I try to take the disk out and the playstation wouldn't eject it. So I turn off my ps4 to manually eject the disk, i get the disk out, turn on my ps4 and try to put the disk back in, but now it wont accept the disk. I've tried everything in my power to fix it, but nothing has worked up to this point, so does anyone got any tips?
@@Bokku2946 you pretty much need a multimeter for any kind of diagnostics to be honest, you could potentially take a small LED and connect one wire to ground and then the other to one side of the fuse and see if it lights up, and then test it on the other side of the fuse too. If it lights up both sides your fuse is good. The only issue with that is to test the fuse you'll have to turn the console on with the heatsink removed so you would have to be extremely quick as it would shut down for protection within a matter of seconds
What’s your thoughts on this scenario… The PlayStation 4 slim that I have has two good working fuses they both have continuity and beep when the two ends are touched. The drive has power because if you hold the two buttons in the disk drive the lens powers up but the motor will not pull the disc in. I had a test drive and purchased a new drive neither of those drives will pull the disc in either. I replaced the motor control chip on the PlayStation four motherboard with no success. I put the board that I pulled the chip from into the PlayStation and it pulls the disc in. Any other thoughts of what the problem could be? So to recap fuses are good I swapped the motor chip and I tried a different motherboard and the other board allows the disk drive to pull the disc in.

TheCod3r I have 3 Pro that all seem to of blown. Replaced fuses etc and got two to work, but things stopped working after putting them back together.

How did you get the white arm on the left of the drive all the way down? Mine seems to be jammed so it does not fully depress the rollers....

Hey bud, it may have a blown fuse on the motherboard. Are you able to check the fuses on the board with a multimeter at all?
