Emperor Dragon is one of the toughest bosses in the FF6 SNES hacking community. The monster comes with a whopping 1,000,000 HP and an attack arsenal that is unmatched. It is purposely designed for all "Quick Spamers" and "Genji Glove / Offering abusers". The sole purpose for the challenge is for seeking out the best of the best. Only the greatest of warriors will have their name immortalized for all time. So which of you has what it takes to slay this wicked beast?

Here are the conditions before the challenge:
1. Cannot use a Rom that is modified to benefit the characters, with the exception being bug fixes.
2. Cannot use extra Items obtainable through save state hacking, only use items attainable through game play with an exception being the extra Atma Weapons dropped by the monster. (You may use more than one in battle.)
3. Cannot abuse system bugs like "Psycho Cyan", "Vanish / Doom", "Wind God Gau" and such. (Even if you try, the boss is immune to such tactics anyway.)
4. Send your battle as video responses without using the "Quick" magic spell to qualify for the Survival Medal. (Any other Medals "Quick" IS allowed.)
5. Send your battle as video responses defeating the dragon under 10, 13, or 16 minutes to qualify for either Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medals.
6. Send your battle as video responses defeating the dragon with your party's average level under 60 to qualify for the Average Level Medal.
7. Make sure to spend a minute or two displaying your characters equipment and statistics within your video. (If you did not display your characters statuses, you will NOT qualify.)
8. If you DO NOT wish to participate in the challenge, but would like to take on the dragon just for kicks and giggles, then by all means do so! You can even post your attempts as a video response and have my personal feedback!
9. You must attempt the new A.I. patched Emperor Dragon 1.02 for ranking. Any older versions of the Emperor A.I. will NOT qualify.
10. Have fun and don't get discouraged if it murders you many times over.

Just change the name of the patch from "EmperorDrg" to the name of your rom and drop the patch in the IPS folder of your emulator. Make sure it's extension is named IPS, otherwise it will look like a text file and will not work.
EmperorDrg can be found in Narshe around the snowy path by the frozen Esper. Before you get wiped out, you should save at the save point around that area. Just be sure to use "Mog", as he helps by removing the enemy encounters with "Moogle Charm".

I remember my first play through of FF6. Every side quest was completed and Kefka defeated. The only thing left for me to do was to cap out my characters at lv.99. Using the bonuses the Espers granted, I decided to create a league of mutant characters. I capped Sabin's vigor at 148, Setzer's stamina at 184, Shadow's speed at 146, and Terra's magic power at 167. Bosses became nothing more than random encounters with them. It was then that the wheels where set in motion for Emperor to be born.
This has got to be the most insane FF6 battle I've ever seen. Even Kaiser wouldn't be able to top this guy. Awesome work!

It has 65,500 MP and a tremendous resistance to magic damage. Be aware that if somehow you managed to drop its MP to 0, it will then either steal yours or restore it's MP to full.
How you can run down 65,500 MP without using moves that attacks MP instead of HP ^^

It's when he's down to 800,000HP, he uses Freezing Dust / Blaster combo which can wreck an unprepared party. He uses Ultima as a random interval during battle.
This is an awesome idea and well executed at that. Keep it up! I love the damage box =p
Although equipping Locke with dual weapons and an Offering does hella more damage, not having a shield will lead to him taking a lot more physical damage fighting an enemy like this, especially if his Evade isn't particularly high.
This has to be one of the first hack videos I watched on YT and it is still around!
I remember I got the dragon to about half HP, keeping track of damage, but could never beat it >.

It could help push me into releasing a new challenge of this magnitude earlier this year.
Wow, this is one tough dragon. Way too many strong magics and your party definitely has its challenge but it was a good video showcasing it. This is the only FF game where I enjoy a challenge. I hated doing any side quests to challenge really difficult bosses in future FF games.

I believe it is, although I don't remember its encounter rate. It is located in the snowy fields where the battle to defend Narshe from Kefka's troops took place.
I always thought Quadra Slice was a waste of time, but I guess if you build a strat that involves your other 3 characters using long-winded attacks it can give you the time you need to build up the charge.

Just realized gogo would help mimic it too lol I hope the pixel remaster allows others to go when charging. Edit: it does (no atb bar and you choose from menu, waiting up to 10 seconds which animations exploit) though the game is so bad with glitches and censorship.
In my experience, Gau has a setup to where he has maximum evade, so in emergency situations, he really helped pull through in encounters such as this.
In the pixel remaster you select the moves then Cyan begins to wait its pretty cool because your party can act meantime

I ask this because it's a popular training method to go after the Intangir for quip ABP. Is that gone in this patch (which, I assume, spans the whole game)?
If not, is it valid to train characters via these alternate means?
It doesn't have a specific bias toward any one character, however when I shot the video it did seem to focus on him... a lot.
This was the first game I ever completed... and seeing the hacks being done I'm pretty happy about it. I know I could complete this challenge, is the game a hack itself or just this boss? I would love to play a more difficult version of this game, it's my favourite FF tied with good old 7. (I've played them all) Going to try with a Beserker party hahah, Gau rage mog dance Umaro and the other extra don't remember his name. J/k I doubt that would even be close to possible

sometime ago i have seen patches on bosses when they scan they have over millions of hp. is there a patch or something around that lets you give bosses tons of hp over the 65535 cap?
I liked the save states of zeemis in which 99 of all items are.

hi so started watching this video and i kinda wanna try it. i have an advance emulator on my phone with FF6 downloaded-even beat the game a few times legitely since my emulator doesnt allow cheats. i like challenges like this. how can i get the patch in MY case? (I also downloaded it onto my ps3, of course it being the original PS1 version) any help with either?

"Wind God Gau" is a bug that can be exploited with Gau. It's much like the famous Psycho Cyan bug. One popular setup is to use the Merit Award to give him a Tempest, which randomly casts Wind Slash, and using a powerful Rage. The Wind Slash will make the effects of the Rage affect all enemies. This is often coupled with the four-strike attack of the Offering to devastating effect, particularly with the Stray Cat rage.

I watched the 3 part solo vids right after this one. That dragon has a lot of moves. Actually he's got so many moves that I didn't know you could put that many attacks on a monster in FF6. Definitely a cool monster hack.

After soft patching your rom, you can find the dragon in Narshe before the frozen esper. Walk around the snowy fields for the encounter.

I personaly like you line up im sure you had a damn good reason for using them Hell my main line up is mostly the same only with sabin in lockes place thats just cause i get more use out of blitz
You have proven yourself quite capable of slaying this beast angelo. However... soloing, is too unlikely but your always welcome to try. :)
Does it come with ultra high def to prevent max damage or something? It's really possible to get 9999 damage on 8 hits with offering and genji glove so that would otherwise easily shave off around 80k life on a character using that per turn.

i almost got owned when it started using soul out, but i just pulled through, also you should probably have made him alternate his absorb attack more, with attacks like goner and fallen one. also, how do i record videos on zsnes? and how do i put them in youtube?
So, from what I get from the document, it just copies Omega Weapon from FFVIA.

It's called the "Atma Weapon" in the FF6Snes release and the "Ultima Weapon" in the FF6 Advanced release.

@LordEnvoy It was tough, one question: i used slow on emperor dragon and im not even sure if it worked or not, is he immune to slow? personally i don't think the hack of Kaiser Dragon you made was really that tough, i beat him on my first try, Ultima did under 1000 damage (to be fair i was using big guard, but you know still)
Yes I made sure to cover every possibility when it comes to instant kills on a boss. It's immune to Psycho Cyan, Vanish/Doom, and Joker Doom. Virtually any instant death skill is moot against this boss.

Hey! I'm a huge fan of FF6 and really want to fight this boss. I patch my rom with the emperor dragon file but he won't show up at Narshe. I'm using the 1.1 version of the rom and have patched it many times. I've re-downloaded it and applied the patch but it will not work. Can you help me?

Correct, buffing up your party is your best way to stay toe to toe with Emperor Dragon. Match it's speed with haste, defend yourself from its attacks with Safe, Shell and Float, and Slow it down to give yourself an advantage.
@wbyyo did you win with jocker's death? I don't remember if the Emperor is immune to it or not, but if it is effected by it, post it up as a video response assuming you have got it recorded. That would be one hell of a lucky win.
do they have a gba ff6 advance rom that's been modified to have this boss? if so I'll gladly take the challenge as the gba version has text that's translated better. I don't like trying to figure out what spells do what with these older versions of the game.

Why didn't you use Terra's Morph command earlier on in the fight?
You would have dealt more damage with Dualcast/X-Magic that way.

Yea, ff13 is a great game, but it's the classics that keep us picking up the controller the most. Oh what I would give to see FF6 remade and rendered on the PS3. To be able to hear each characters voice for the first time. It would be breath taking.

That sounds like a nice attempt at soloing Emperor. :) Unfortunately, there is yet a warrior to have made it past his final counterattacks. I am quite certain there is no hope in soloing...

It does look like the SOB dragon is beatable, but you are right when you say it ain't easy. Losing Cyan would help in place with Celes with another Minerva. Ice Shields look like a besides the Paladin shield you have on Edgar. Celes definitely for that darn Ultima he gives plenty of warning on throwing.

Yes, feel free to take on the "One Million HP Challenge" if you wish or you can challenge it just for your own amusement. :)
Teach Cyan Quick, it stops time for both actions so you can do Quadra Slice twice while time pauses. You can kill Kefka in just one move with it.
Or cast invis and death :D
@shebakoby Some of them didn't have ribbon, because the relics used help them do more damage then Ultima. Yes Ultima is a guaranteed 9,999, however, Dragoon Boots / Dragoon Horns combination can strike up to 4 times and be guaranteed to do 19,998 to 39,996 a turn. Ultima also has a long animation sequence which can take several seconds to do 9,999 or 19,998 damage with Terra. But Offering / Genji Glove combination strikes up to 8 times and can do up to 47,890 to 67,360 per turn.
Maybe, however the roms I provided gives a bug fix to the "Genji Glove" and "Offering" relics. Reduction to weapon power is 15-25%. This may prevent a player from reaching 9,999.
Just wanna say, to counter the HP effect of atma weapon, pairing it with Valiant knife is surprisingly effective. Since you actually deal more total damage as your hp lowers, but it only really shows the greatest effect when the weilders Max hp is 9999.
