Competition is fierce in the pickup world and that’s good news for hard working Americans. The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 is a significant upgrade from the outgoing truck. Tom Voelk travels to Phoenix, Arizona for the press launch and drives a base Tradesman because that’s what people who get things done will buy, right? He also checks out the Longhorn and Laramie models.

Most reviewers have to realize that most buyers aren’t going to get a 70k truck to throw cement and plywood in the back of it.....am glad you got it right and reviewed the base model....the real work horse of the fleet!

With a family of 6 I needed a bench seat. I got the tradesmen crew cab 4 wheel drive and couldn't be happier. I added the ram rebel wheels and tires. GM didn't offer me anything like this so it looks like I am a Ram Guy now.

Best interior by far and without a doubt the most capable truck on the road. I hope i can afford one the only problem now will be pricing ,will wait a year or so before looking . My ford is a 2014 with 25k on it so i can wait.

I swear i felt less (if no) vibration in 2006 model then in 2013 model, i could only know it switched to 4 cylinders by watching rpm needle go about 2 bars higher, so what's up with that? But i bought it used with 30k on it, 1st owner brought it back without muffler, i asked to put the most quiet one and it was doing absolutely no engine rumble while friend's of mine 2004 model did have some from stuck setup. Maybe they put something different which made that difference.

It’s nice to have a loaded out truck but you don’t always need it. Especially if you can’t afford one loaded out. I have a 2019 Toyota tundra sr. It’s the base model and I tell you what I love that truck. Really simple truck and still has lots of power with the 5.7 liter v8. I don’t need leather seats heated seats and all that stuff. As long as my truck has 4 wheel drive a 5.7 v8 and looks good and can tow I’m all good baby😏

Not a fan of the new RAM but it was great to see a trim level reviewed that doesn't cost as much as a house. Although I think it's funny we've gotten to the point where we consider the largest cab with alloy wheels a "base" model, lol. Still this model is a lot closer to reality than the $70k trucks that all the other channels review.

I really like the Tradesman with body color trim package, but I have not been able to find it on Ram's "build&price" site for the Quad (extended) cab. Finally a "mild hybrid" system that doesn't go completely overboard with replacing the fun of a hemi v8 with the mundane drivability of a prius. It exists with no purpose than to make the already great engine a little better and get better fuel economy at the same time. Thank you chrysler.

does anyone know if the auto company's see an opportunity to use the hybrid power module as the basis to offer a home and work generator option on their trucks/
i'd think the system would do well and sell well.
provide backup power to a home in the event of an outage and if/when the batteries run down, the engine would auto start and recharge the battery pack without owner direct involvement except to monitor this on a connected ap.

RAM trucks (and FCA in general) have typically featured good capability, features, comfort and initial quality. It's the long term reliability that has always suffered. IMO they've always tried to stuff too much new technology into a single package that something will always go wrong. They historically have very poor reliability and resale numbers. Good first step but I wouldn't trust them or want to be an early adopter. I'd wait at least 3 years until the initial problems get ironed out.

I've been a dodge guy my entire life, but I hate the new look to be honest. It doesn't look like a truck anymore

Even though you are not the best auto reviewer (MotorWeek and Steve Hammes get the nod in the "best of" list) you are easily in the top 10 and only getting better! (top 9)
That said, you are dwarfed by this massive truck. I'd guess you are around 5-6 to 5-7 on a good hair day? Keep up the good, no, great work and never stop being you, Tom.
    Namaste

Can I put my 6BT with 2 million miles on it in it? I don’t know why they ditched the 5.9 cummins, it’s better than any goddamn 6.7 cummins or v8 they will ever have.
