With all these mind blown theories, I can say that I maybe found a little thing. It is really just little but when Hugh goes in the red room to hug Olivia and Nell, you see Olivia looking at Steve and Nell has her eyes closed. This must be an intentional choice, everything in this show is. Olivia has her eyes looking to Steve because she wants him to join him (in death), like every member of the family. Nell doesn’t look at Steve because she wants him to go and live his life and she doesn’t want him to join the dead
Here’s my crazy theory. The kids and the mom all had an escape to the red room while living in the house but they never show the dads escape, or so you think! For me, the red flag (see what I did?) on the cake scene was the fact that Steven's wife is pregnant. We know that can't be true (yes, I know that vasectomies can be reversed, but it doesn't seem plausible in this case), and the only time we saw her pregnant before was when Steven was trapped in the red room. So, for me, they're all still in there.
there's also many other ways she could've gotten pregnant, all vasectomy's can be reversed, and if for some plot reason his couldn't be, she could always have just used a donor
The director talked about the original ending where in the background you see the red room window and know they never left, when they went to film he changed it because he thought it was too mean and they deserved a happy ending. I would've prefered the original.

For the red room theory, maybe the rectangular painting strategicaly placed behind Luke's head was a more subtle representation of the window??? It was in the middle of the shot and plus one promiment red item, which is the cake. Just a thought 🤔😊
Mike Flanagan said that the original idea was to place the red room window in that shot. But the night before they filmed that shot he was really upset by the thought that none of the Cranes made it out of the house alive. He thought it was cruel. So they replaced the window with a painting. So, according to Mike Flanagan, only Olivia, Nell and Hugh didn't make it out of the house.

I'm quite surprised that there is no sexual abuse theory... In the third episode Theo sees this girl who believes there is a monster that enters her room every night and it turns out to be her adoptive parent abusing her. Theo explicitaly says she created a monster since it was easier than coping with the abuse. Then in the NEXT episode we know Luke's monster is a man with a hat who enters their room at night and goes to her sister's bed first and then to his. The only living character in the show seen with a hat is their father, Hugh, in Nelly's funeral. That stood out to me. If the father was abusing Nelly, that would explain why the twins are the most damaged. Then the mother starts realizing that and that makes her go crazy. That would be why Poppy says something about the twins like "what if they were inmersed in the worst nightmare, illness, etc" Is there any worst nightmare than being sexually abused by a parent?? Then Poppy says to Liv what she's got to do in the ear and then is when she tries to kill HUGH (not the twins yet) with a screw. However that knowledge is not explicit in her mind, it comes out subconsciently (and Claire encourages her to follow her instinct), but it's like she knew about the irreversible damage done to them and then she started imaginig the terrible future for them. So eventually she would have got obsessed with protecting them and release them from pain to the point of getting crazy and trying to kill them. Then the father would have stopped her but, after that, probably horrified for the damaged he had done to the family, would have stayed away from them. As Hugh himself says, he was holding a door to protect them from the monsters (like he was talking about his own perversions). It stood out to me aswell that at Nelly's wedding he doesnt look happy at all, he looks even upset, like he was jelous. Then also he seems very cold about her death, which looks a little psycho to me. Also those two buttons on her eyes kind of make her look like a cloth doll, and Hugh's told to be the last one who got close to the coffin and coul've put them there, like a hint she was his doll for him. Finally, the bent-necked woman that haunts Nelly could be seen as a suicidal pulsion ("a gohst is a wish - death wish-") that assaults her, as often happens to traumatized people even if they don't remember the trauma. Considering this, Nelly could have rememered everything when going back to the house and that could've been so shocking that she killed herself. As it often happens, suicide might be triggered by a memory because of the stress it provokes, without the person really wanting to kill themself (Nelly and her mom both are literally pushed to do it). Finally, there is something strange with the Red Room (apart from the reference to The Shining RED RUM), the tea party and the hats. It all reminds me of Alice in Wonderland Madhatter tea party, like what we see in there was somehow delusional and something else could've happen. The fact is that, in the end, all who could have known about the sexual abuse kill themselves when they get there: Nelly, Liv, Hugh and presumably Luke.
I adore this series, I'm currently on my second viewing and I am sure this is one I will watch again and again if it comes out on blue ray as I imagine myself seeing things I missed in previous viewings. This show is Horror done right and that is so hard to find these days. Great video and I look forward to see what my own theories might be after I've finished this second time around as I usually don't come up with theories after a first time watching something,
It's a bit more subtle. Theo's bargaining could be interpreted by her habit of always coming up with sort term ways of dealing with her problems. Instead of facing them and letting people in, she trades her emotions for sex and alcohol.
I think the black mould also linked to causing alot of the "symptoms" and mental illness (that Steve continuously b!tched about) that Olivia and the twins developed over time.
My objection to theory one is that we see Steven, luke, Theo, and Shirley go outside of the house at the end so they're safe. Plus they can't be the part of the house as anyone who is stuck in the house has to die first. Nelly died by getting hanged, the mother died by falling off the stares if I remember correctly, and Hugh died because of the overdose. Apart from that, the cause of death for any of Crane siblings was not shown implying that they escaped the house.
The red room theory on number 1 reminds me of a sad Harry Potter theory, where at the end of the series Harry wakes up at the cupboard under the stairs and realises that all the wizarding stuff was just a long dream. I don't believe in that theory and I'm glad that it is just a theory.
I wanted to dislike the video legit just because theory #1 makes me want to cry...but i wont put the blame on you and I'll just like and subscribe through my tears
Maybe this is answered somewhere, but... When the cop mentions the second body while questioning Hugh, what body is he referring to? Abigail’s body had been removed from the house...
The body of Mr. Hill, that Hugh found while dealing with the mould, if you observe closely, the inspector that came to collect the body of Mr. Hill was the same inspector who interrogated Hugh the next day when Olivia died.
This is why this channel is truly amazing and Jack you are also amazing. Loving this dialogue of going deeper into horror and showing that it can be such a complex process for many facets of life shown through this genre. So many canons could be made of this show and others. Great job fantastic....love the discussion and great topic.
Don't be, his final theory is bullshit. The show runner originally wanted to have a red door in the background, but netflix said no. Also, what would the point of the father's sacrifice be if this theory wasn't bs? He is speaking out his arse and cant keep his figures straight.
Can someone explain to me what the point of the ending was? I felt like that whole show was about the fact that ghosts are BAD, and that the fact that the family is kept in the house is not a good thing. But in the last 15 mins, it's shown that everything is happy and all the dead people are still in the house and can't move on. I don't get how everything can be okay when the house is still standing?! The families and people who died there are still trapped. The motivation solely being on keeping the Dudley's together feels kind of pointless now that they are all dead.
Teo They are not hero who try to save the world. They just a family that ruined by the house. They happy because of they has they life back. At least for now.
The whole show specifically says that the House itself is the haunting evil, not the ghosts. At first we think it's because there are ghosts haunting it, but by the end of the show we are revealed that they are just spirits hanging around and bothering no one (except for that one crazy lady in Liv's dreams) being kept by the house itself. The ending is happy for the living because the siblings survive and learn to confront their fears together, meanwhile for the dead we realize that the house is not an entire embodiment of evil, but simply a hungry being that otherwise lets its spirit occupants 'live' in peace. Inside there's no pain, no dangers, and the house shows to each of them its warmest version of when they lived there, as well as allows the spirits to stay together and in any physical age that they wish to have. It's not a hell of eternal despair, these families can truly live in eternal peace and happiness inside once they accept it, like in a dream

Nell is the main villian. She have attention seeking disorder. She was always bothering the hell out of her mum and drove her to go into the red room for a tea party. She also did such as writing her name on the wall and claiming it wasnt here. She then came back and haunted all he siblings and drove them insane. At the end she ruins their "dream" and all the siblings are sent packing while the father is killed and Nell is left to have all the attention of both parents.
Villain definitely not. She doesnt ruin their dreams she pulls out from unconsciousness when their dreams are at their worst point in the red room. She also single handily saves luke from drinking the tea which would have caused him to die.

This is a good one!!
I adore this series, I'm currently on my second viewing and I am sure this is one I will watch again and again if it comes out on blue ray as I imagine myself seeing things I missed in previous viewings. This show is Horror done right and that is so hard to find these days. Great video and I look forward to see what my own theories might be after I've finished this second time around as I usually don't come up with theories after a first time watching something,
As a child, we see things that aren't real. But as we grow older and become adults, we learn to make it real.
To this day I have to do a double take when I see Theo/Katie I swear she looks like Angelina Jolie
I still don’t see how Theo represents “ bargaining”
Yes, and no rectangular window in the final scene.
This channel deserves more views and subscribers. Love the videos
Not really, the 3 sisters theory is very sexist and wong. Luke had as much psychic experiences as the 3 sisters.
Have seen it twice, I love it.
So basically the Red Room was the Room of Requirement 😂😂
Right? Provided them with exactly what they needed.
The red room theory on number 1 reminds me of a sad Harry Potter theory, where at the end of the series Harry wakes up at the cupboard under the stairs and realises that all the wizarding stuff was just a long dream. I don't believe in that theory and I'm glad that it is just a theory.
Could you guys do some Theories on the Rings I’m pretty sure there’s some theories on about the movie but it’s a Suggestion
I wanted to dislike the video legit just because theory #1 makes me want to cry...but i wont put the blame on you and I'll just like and subscribe through my tears
Wtf
The 2 in the red cake is foreshadowing season 2.
yesss
N O L A N M I L N E S that’s what I was thinking
It’s for luke’s two years of sobriety
No window. No red room
The Panhandle Theater in Florida is performing The Haunting of Hill House soon.
This is why this channel is truly amazing and Jack you are also amazing. Loving this dialogue of going deeper into horror and showing that it can be such a complex process for many facets of life shown through this genre. So many canons could be made of this show and others. Great job fantastic....love the discussion and great topic.

That was such a good show!!!
I've watched the whole playlist and I'm kinda sad that it's over. I'm super excited to see new videos in my notifications
Another great video, Jack. I am sorry I didn't watch it sooner.
And now I’m sadder.
Don't be, his final theory is bullshit. The show runner originally wanted to have a red door in the background, but netflix said no. Also, what would the point of the father's sacrifice be if this theory wasn't bs? He is speaking out his arse and cant keep his figures straight.
It's only a theory.
Wether the black mould is or isn't the true cause of all the weirdness, there definitely is something else in that house that isnt simply a ghost.
The three sisters = The three Fates
Looking forward to season two
It’s 12am why am I watching this
Love this channel 👏💕
I seriously need to get that shirt. That shirt is amazing!
@@OWlsfordshire but.. but... Lucipurrrr
Loved this series and can not wait for series 2!
Thank you Jack another wonderful job. 💙💜💙
I loved the movie, this short Netflix version is also awesome just like you Jack. Keep the video's coming.
I Love the T-shirt you are wearing in this video. I think it is one of your best.
Teo I believe they are happy because they’re finally together. No longer alone
All you can see on the cake is “2” and “day”...
THE WHOLE FAMILY IS ALSO A REPRESENTATION OF THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS.
TS7 IS COMING please explain?
Who is which
@@sibs544
Theo - Lust - 1 night stands, hooking up with bridesmaids, shirley's husband etc.
Steve - Greed - selling out his family story for the £££
Luke - Gluttony - drug addiction (insatiable appetite for heroin even saying its the best hangover cure)
Nell - Sloth - never seen doing anything, no job, also seen the most sleeping
Shirley - Envy - Hates the fact Steve made bank on his book, always makes herself seem so superior to everyone else
Olivia - Wrath - Unpredictable temper and lashing out
Hugh - Pride - He hid the truth to protect everyone but his actions led Steve to taking a vasectomy when an explanation could have let him read the marks
Originally they where all suppose to be in the restroom but he liked them too much he wanted to
Give some hope
I'm a fan and I can cool people down
🤣
I need the Book for this one .... We have Netflix but I'm the only one interested ... Thanks guys for always sharing infos =)
There is a book for it I'm actually reading it and the show was based of the book

When you mention lighting you should have mentioned perfect blue and Satoshi Kon instead of blue is the warmest color just saying. The film perfect blue would’ve been the best reference and if you haven’t seen it then I suggest you watch it immediately because you cannot go in life without seeing it
I really like ur channel
The show was really good, does anyone remember the movie the haunting based on the hill house I dont know if the show played off that but the show gave me more much more of intrest and scares
Yes, there is a 1963 and 1999 versions. The movie versions are different from the show version.
I feel like the house was all just mold in disguise as a house at this point
Blue is not just my favorite color it is also my special color.. An Acient color that binds me to this like and others around me..
just like snoop dogg
All colors are ancient colors
Honestly the ending would have been better if they were all stuck in red room the rest of their lives. The ending should have had that window for sure. You know the red room window
Wow, thanks Jack. Haha. Now I am definitely going to have to finish this series, you really have me curious.
Hello Awesome Jack
Ive been sober for sometime, not interested....I get all fucked and i see your video, im about to be in metal heaven.
I have black mould in my bathroom, oh noooo. D:
buy a spray that can get rid of it.
3:07 what movie/show is he referencing
Blue Velvet?
A famous lgbtq movie called Blue is the Warmest Colour about 2 lesbians
The Bly House was terrible. Midnight Mass was pretty good but this was THE best. Period
Maybe the mold is a ghost I mean have you seen archive 81 that has supernatural mold that gets people addicted to it and the addicts call it stardust
Like a living entity I believe the house kills people and consumes there souls
Oh yeah yeah
Pretty sure that cake said 2 days.
You know you have brianrot if you read cantrip instead of catnip
Liked the video. Maybe do a Top 5 creepy moments of the Fate/Stay franchise (this includes Zero, Unlimited Blade Works, Heavens Feel, Apocrypha, Extra,Grand Order).
They were all ways in the red room red cake red shoes shirts ect
And on top of the red cake is a 2, symbolizing getting greenlit for a second season!
God is one without the second!
I seek protection from shaitan(lucifer) the cursed!
to the ones who find my comment irrelevant have a closer look to his tshirt!
Did they all die, my thought?
black mould? lol......
Wait! So Luke is dead? I’m so confused
In theory says he might be. As far as Flanagan says is that they all make it out alive
Ok where can I buy that t-shirt???
Does tha father not have a red room?
Fanny Chapa Espino No he doesn‘t. the red room keeps him bussy and distracted by sending down black mold to the basement. Thats his ‚kind of red room‘
I should've watched this video when I did an essay about reviewing the show, it could've made my essay 10x better, still got an A tho
Please learn how to spell mold
It's spelled that way in every UA-cam video! Maybe it's the English way to spell it (not American English)??
Don't be an ignorant douchebag, Jon. Learn how things are spelled in Canada, the UK and Australia you pompous jerk.
Look this channel but the shirt is a bit much for me. I don't know about that.🤨
This is so stupid seeing that mike explained the all the Metaphors on the show as for not having them in the red room at the end he wanted to give them a happy ending
I wish they just made it a completely blank wall.
Why do most youtubers have welcome viewers with a cringey "whats going on guys"?
Nell is the main villian. She have attention seeking disorder. She was always bothering the hell out of her mum and drove her to go into the red room for a tea party. She also did such as writing her name on the wall and claiming it wasnt here. She then came back and haunted all he siblings and drove them insane. At the end she ruins their "dream" and all the siblings are sent packing while the father is killed and Nell is left to have all the attention of both parents.
Rudy Simmons Dude...great analysis. I’ve only watched once, but Nell is so tragic to me. I never looked at it like this.
Omg....i love this.
Villain definitely not. She doesnt ruin their dreams she pulls out from unconsciousness when their dreams are at their worst point in the red room. She also single handily saves luke from drinking the tea which would have caused him to die.
She also does minor things such as stopping her siblings from fighting, for example in episode 6 breaking the coffin when steve and hugh are fighting, and screaming in the car when shirley and theo are fighting
Olivia was the one who wrote Nell's name on the wall.
Im sorry haunting of hill house was npt scary but mediocre at best , i was so bored i would rather watch paint dry . If there is a season 2 they better increase the theatrics of horror times 2 or it will be the death of hill house ..
You sound like a blast to hang out with...
Have fun watching paint dry!
@@floridafan561 I am blast , just this movie was snoozeville after all the hype . The new one in first episode was lil creepier , here's to no more paint watching ..
I have a fan theory that Hill House was the stinkiest pile of crap I've ever seen, an insult to the horror genre and anyone who values good writing or acting. The opening act was intriguing, the floating ghost was great in his first appearance, Episode 4 was the beginning of the melodramatic soap opera writing BUT had great direction.... from there it was downhill. The last episode is the most D.R.E.A.D.F.U.L. garbage I've ever seen in my life. Ever.
Interesting theory not much reasoning though...
we all have different taste. one may argue this is tge best mobie ever and you may not like it but the point is we have different taste and thats what makes us unique. You may find this disgusting but for me, this is the best horror ive seen
I have to agree, the ending was terrible, it was great up until the last episode.
