  • This is one of the most useful grooves that I have come across recently, and while it sounds familiar at first, it definitely has nuances and concepts that can be used to broaden your groove vocabulary and feel.
I heard it explained in a two part interview with Pete Thomas on the "Produce Like A Pro" UA-cam channel - see links below - You should watch both of these videos. Pete Thomas is a drumming legend and it's rare to have access to this this much detail into the creative process and groove breakdowns.
    Enjoy!

Yeah I hear that. But the main take away for me is really the concept of assigning a swing feel and a straight feel to different limbs. You can go so deep with this. This example just scratches the surface of what is possible. Thanks for check it out and for getting involved in the convo! ✌️

Thanks Anthony. I appreciate it! I always loved that Los Lobos tune but had no idea who played the drums or exactly what was being played. When I heard the interview w Pete Thomas I thought it that groove was fire and wanted to share it.

If someone would described me this pattern I would probably say "It will never work for normal music, unless it's Primus"

I always like that Los Lobos tune and never really thought about the drum part as having anything interesting going on until I saw that interview w Pete Thomas. I just thought it was so cool the way he broke it down.

Mr. Eddie, I really love the sound of your ride cymbal. Would you mind sharing the specs on it? Thanks.

Absolutely. I love this thing. It’s a 22 meinl Byzance dry ride. It doesn’t say dry on it but has that the same hammering and look as the dry series. I can send you a pic if you want

Hi Alfred. I’m curious what you mean here. Can you explain what you mean by promosm? In looking it up, it seems to have a negative meaning for a UA-cam video but I’ve never heard this term before now. Thank you
