Love this guy. Interesting, funny , deep and introspective. Been following his IG for a while and learning about Vudoo and it's similarities to Shinto / Shugendo / Mikkyo. Very interesting.
Thank you. I really enjoyed this podcast. I laughed so much! 😂 It was so chill. But yes, bullying is never a good thing, especially for a young child. I feel bad for the person who went through that, but it seems like most turned out fine, making them stronger and more confident. Everyone’s story is different and I love hearing their experiences. Also, Max, thank you for the English translations (subs), where needed. I appreciate that.
The Japanese language is extremely complex. There are several languages inside one (keigo, sonkengo, kenjougo, teineigo, tameguchi), a language hierarchy; depending on your status in the situation, you may have to lower yourself and raise the other person up. If Pele's brother's girlfriend wanted to remain in good standing with his mother, she had to use a specific Japanese style to save face, no? Pele's mother might have cared or not, but Pele's brother's girlfriend knew the rules, and she followed them. The English language doesn't really have honorifics save for a few prefixes/suffixes we attach to names, but that's about it. As a result, it is so much easier to talk to people of all ages and classes. If your grammar is good people will respond well. If you have a big vocabulary, even better! In a nutshell, the Japanese language makes the speaker humble themselves before others, and this is likely why the Japanese are known to be polite people. Their culture and language demand it from Japanese speakers--I'm well aware that the world is full of rude people, Japan too, but as a whole, Japanese people are very polite. EDIT: 14:31 You got to it =)

He went to Saturday Japanese School while in Ghana (we went to the same school. He was 1 grade above me w/ my sister). And of course he refined his Japanese from living in Japan the past 5 years.
Ah, people who are interesting and grounded in who they are 😂. Americans are generally not into being independent thinkers and so the depth in conversation amongst folks tends to lack 😅 a smidgen.
