This Guy is Layne Norton without the condescending attitude, amazing free information that take peoples years to learn in a 6 part series. Team 3DMJ, you guys are phenomenal great attitude and approach.
eric..I cant believe you have taken the time to do all these series free of charge.. your work is well researched and very thorough and also new age in its thinking. thank you for all the videos
If you have to compare something that is not similar to the thing you are comparing it to (like cigarettes to trans fat) to make your point, it doesn't prove a point, in fact it weakens it, as you had to choose an inappropriate analogy to try to make it. I'm not talking about cigarettes, I'm not talking about other "bad things", I'm talking about food. As I said "I can think of no food that is actively harmful eating it one time or every couple of months". Addictive drugs are not food.
This whole series has been the most informative, structured, enlightening, and best damn information ever. I wish i had this years ago. You guys have helped changed my lifestyle, mindset, and kept me going with training/nutrition lifestyle. Thank you Eric/3DMJ!!
Did you notice I said having it one time or infrequently? I would tend to agree that the closest thing we have to bad foods would be trans fat, but even then it's about frequency and magnitude "good and bad" don't give room for that context. If a bodybuilder at a twinkie once every 2 months and he fit it into his macronutrient plan, and still got his micronutrient, fiber, water, etc. needs...I would bet my life that it would make no measurable impact in any way.
Your mindset is the best. With all the knowledge I got in nutrition by searching and reading articles, I tend to be a fitness dictator. Giving unsolicited advices and I can feel now that it is not welcome well. But the one team for all to get healthy is the way to go I guess. And many ways exist to get where we wanna be. :p I appreciate so much this series.
big variation for sure...I love to compare myself to Alberto as we have similar jobs, hobbies, and training volume/styles. Yet he competes at 160 I compete at 180, and the lowest his macros get in the midst of contest prep are too high for me in the offseason. His get shredded macros are my get fat macros :)
This is like... The MOST well-put and structured series I've ever seen. You guys aren't only good at teaching theories and such, but you've packaged it in a way that considers life, behavior, and social aspects. BRA-freakin-VO. You guys are like the pros/adults of this industry.
Sam this is the nutrition AND strength pyramid and honestly the principles are the same and I did gear this entire series keeping in mind powerlifters and olympic lifters, as typically they will be doing through periods of lean gaining and cutting as well since they are weight class restricted athletes.
That little almost sneeze episode was awesome..Seriously though great series, ill make sure to recommend it to those who are seeking guidance. Thank you for all you do!
at least for a period if even a week or two, because it will make you that much better at estimating, and not a bad idea when weighing calorically dense foods...like put your salad bowl on the scale, dump in the salad, but maybe only turn the scale on when you add the dressing and cheese :)
that's why you focus on the average, not the daily weigh ins, as over the course of a week, you'll have low sodium and high sodium days and this will tend to repeat itself week to week
Absolutely awesome video. I need to share this with my "framily" so I can stop "preaching to them" as they so often say. Thanks again for taking the time to make this series.
Eric, a big shout out from the Netherlands and the faculty of exercise and nutritionscience. VU Amsterdam. Many many thanx for your inspiring and educational videos.
Nothing wrong with maintaining weight and just focusing on progress in the gym, you can certainly progress that way...we aren't every truly just in a surplus or a deficit anyway, we're always in flux...just might not be the optimal way to gain muscle or lose fat, BUT, appropriate in some instances, especially in weight class restricted athletes
hey 3DMJ! i really want to thank you for making all these videos and in particular that series. the qualitiy of information you guys provide for free is unique, i don´t think any of those limited access websites have better content! you make it so much easier for motivated athletes like myself to persue my goals and dreams.you gentlemen make a very big, positive difference in my life and i hope an think in the ones of others too. i just want you to know that because you´re outstanding! :)
You should do a series like this based on lifting in terms of progression, program, volume, and whatever else you think is important. Great series, sad to see it end
Great way to go actually, my wife does this very well. She has an idea of where she is at, maintains a good balance of different foods, certain minimum amount of protein, and then reduces portion sizes or increases them based on change in weight
Just wanted to express my thanks for this excellent video series, Eric. I'm sure you're a very busy man and it's very good of you to take time out and put this (very valuable) information out there, especially as you're not getting any kind of remuneration from it other than the gratitude of those watching - though perhaps that's enough. I've learned a lot and it's definitely going to help me in my goals moving forward.
not for a while...PhD takes a lot of time and energy, especially alongside coaching, not to mention I'm small compared to pros so I've got some offseason building to do :)
Oh absolutely, this series was amazing and I cannot thank you enough. However, I wasn't speaking directly about this individual series, but rather in general. Was just hoping you guys could cover more topics related to performance based sports, my specific question was regarding weight management and energy balance related to those sports. thank you for the response, I appreciate it.
Best segment in this video was the bit on helping others. A lot of the youtube fitness community could learn a thing or two about how to treat other people in regards to their beliefs. Whether they're right or wrong.
Phenomenal series. Incredibly helpful and insightful. Hit the nail on every key important detail that a novice and experienced lifters may have overlooked. Thanks for making this!
Yeah I didn't cover that in this series, however we have some good stuff on that in our channel on reverse dieting you can also google my podcast with armi legge at impuvism
That's right where I finished my contest prep diet. It's weird how people can differ so much as far as metabolism goes. Dont you find?I felt like I was going to die when I ate under 3200 calories at the end of prep. I actually completed an application with you guys and when you followed through, I backed out at the last moment and decided to do it on my own. Glad I was able to keep it above 3000 cals since I didn't have your help. Glad I did it alone, but for my next show Im 100% applying again
Awesome information, I've been a personal trainer for almost a year at a commercial gym and i realized that my managers and co-workers don't know much about nutrition or even training for that matter, so this helped a lot! Im definitely going to be following your info more, Subscribed!
Brilliant and practical, thanks again for the effort made for this series. Looking forward to additional series of videos. Perhaps a series of videos made by Team3DMJ dedicated to the best Compound and Isolation movements per body part, and proper demonstration of executed techniques. Perhaps differences if any of a Hex bar deadlift vs a regular barbell deadlift. Safety Squat bar vs Squat Barbell, or Dumbbell Squat, etc as examples. Or is it merely the same thing approached differently?
THANK YOU IMMENSELY FOR TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE THIS SERIES IT WAS THE BEST :) I took notes on everything being new to your team being coached by Jeff Im trying to absorb as much as possible. You guys are the best :)
stumbled across your videos on youtube and just watched the entire series. i have to say that this has been the most informative video(s) on the topic that i've found. can't thank you enough for the info you have shared and those links you recommended are fantastic. there's so much great info on JISSN. definetely subscribing. you're a champ!
Great series. It has been insanely informative. Learned a lot about nutrition. I was wondering if you planned to do another pyramid series about training. Nutrition being one half of wellness, training would be the other half. Correct?
1st of all thank you 3dmj and eric helms for these great info/videos. it means alot to people that doesnt have much means and are searching for good information like this to have a guide to bodybuild or have a healthy lifestyle. my question is about weighing foods such as e.g.steaks bacon ribs how often can we fit these foods using the nutritional label without ending up deviating from set macro ranges since the cuts on these can vary from one to another e.g.one steak more fats than the other)
please do more series like these! Like implementing strength into hypertrophy routines! ive seen ogus's strength weeks and hyperT weeks. Please help :)
I would go up incrementally watching what your weight does and walk your calories as high as you can, bump ~100kcals a week when weight is stable or going down
how about using runkeeper as a tool for measuring your activity( as in burned calories). and adding extra calories to compensate the burned calories, for example after going shopping or having a nice long walk
Too funny, am paused at the sneeze - saw you looking up. Then you KNOW that a bright light source will aid in the sneezing reflex? The more brilliant in context to the surrounding environment the better. So yes, outdoor, the sun will work wonders. But even at night car headlights help. And yes, in a conference room, the florescent bulbs work too. Ha.
If you can't watch a 30min vid on how to approach your entire LIFESTYLE for fitness....safe to say biggest thing you need to work on is patience
Would go as far as to say this is a life changing series, thank you Eric (y)

This
Hands down most comprehensive and down to earth nutrition advise on UA-cam....this series is a hidden gem. Well done. Deserves way more views.
This could be the best segment on fitness and lifestyle ever done by anyone. Thanks and congratulations Mr. Eric.
This series is super super informative Eric! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! Btw I love your sense of humor :D
Totally agree
This was the best video in a great series. You've managed to render the majority of nutritional videos on youtube obsolete in 6 videos. Solid work.
This whole series has been the most informative, structured, enlightening, and best damn information ever. I wish i had this years ago. You guys have helped changed my lifestyle, mindset, and kept me going with training/nutrition lifestyle. Thank you Eric/3DMJ!!

Helms is awesome. Not only was it great information, it was laid out extremely well. Good job Eric.
The most valuable series on the internet, by far, regarding muscle/strength/bodybuilding/lifestyle. Eric you are a legend :)
Just make sure to look up the most appropriate listing in the food databases for what you are eating as possible and be consistent
This is the best of the series. Thx

This video is absolutely phenomenal and hits many different levels of myself.
Watched the whole series! Much appreciated.
Best video series on UA-cam. I found this immensely helpful. Thanks, Eric!

Loved the series Eric, awesome information for those who are new to this stuff.
Best segment in this video was the bit on helping others. A lot of the youtube fitness community could learn a thing or two about how to treat other people in regards to their beliefs. Whether they're right or wrong.
Part 2 please watch it again
I love your vids and your personality Helms :).its a joy to watch a master teach his art.
This video series was good on so many levels. Great job
Brilliant! Thanks you very much for this information. Enjoyed watching (and writing notes) all 6 parts.
Phenomenal series. Incredibly helpful and insightful. Hit the nail on every key important detail that a novice and experienced lifters may have overlooked. Thanks for making this!
Hands down my favourite episode! Thanks alot Eric!
Yeah I haven't checked the recent market fluctuations on a key of coke and done a cost comparison to ho hos or twinkies :)
Thank you so much for this series and sharing your knowledge. Big big help for my personal goals.
Yeah I didn't cover that in this series, however we have some good stuff on that in our channel on reverse dieting you can also google my podcast with armi legge at impuvism
Thank you very much for these videos Eric! It was a pleasure watching them.
right about maintenance for me currently
Extremely helpful! Watching the new series this week.

This video series is the most helpful dieting advice on the internet, bar none.
Two thumbs up. All makes sense on how to manage life and fitness goals.
Go with servings vs cups, and can't give a gram rec since serving size is different depending on the type of fruit/veg
Awesome information, I've been a personal trainer for almost a year at a commercial gym and i realized that my managers and co-workers don't know much about nutrition or even training for that matter, so this helped a lot! Im definitely going to be following your info more, Subscribed!

Best vid of the series right here.
Great video, this has taught me so much!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing Eric, awesome information
thought i was the only one who did macro ranges, awesome video/series overall Eric. It was so helpful :)
Bought your books. Can't wait to read them; build my program and fix my nutrition accordingly with the right macro/micronutrients/etc.
Thanks for the series. Appreciate your style
Fantastic video series, thank you so much for taking the time to make it!

Such a wise, humble man.
Great video. Some very wise words in there.
1st of all thank you 3dmj and eric helms for these great info/videos. it means alot to people that doesnt have much means and are searching for good information like this to have a guide to bodybuild or have a healthy lifestyle.
my question is about weighing foods such as e.g.steaks bacon ribs how often can we fit these foods using the nutritional label without ending up deviating from set macro ranges since the cuts on these can vary from one to another e.g.one steak more fats than the other)
Thanks for all of this extremely thorough and helpful info. I'm starting the pyramid now.
Wonderful series...thanks dr eric
please do more series like these! Like implementing strength into hypertrophy routines! ive seen ogus's strength weeks and hyperT weeks. Please help :)
I would go up incrementally watching what your weight does and walk your calories as high as you can, bump ~100kcals a week when weight is stable or going down
moderation is fine, but probably shouldn't be a large portion of your protein intake
Love your stuff Eric.Your biggest fan from India!!!
Thank you
Great series
Great series, thanks for doing this Eric!
It'll still be pretty consistent over time if you just do calories and protein
how about using runkeeper as a tool for measuring your activity( as in burned calories). and adding extra calories to compensate the burned calories, for example after going shopping or having a nice long walk
Took a while to find something like this. very informative and helpful. thanx

Wow.. Continues to amaze!!
Wow, I'm amazed that I didn't stumble across this earlier. This is a really important video series IMO. Chapeau!
thanks so much for making this series! it's great to hear all of your thoughts and knowledge. I wish I had seen these long ago.
