  • In much political discourse, we keep hearing about “our democracy” as opposed to our republic. In this short video, we hear insights from Dennis Prager of PragerU and the late professor, Dr. Walter Williams, on our republic and why the electoral college safeguards our republic and the will of the American people.

Judeo-Christian 'G-D' was invented by someone to convince you that sacrificing your children, whether to Jahovah/Yahweh on an altar because G-D told you to, or as a soldier, was a fine idea. And should be rewarded socially for your sacrifice. Why do you think they are always thanking Veterans, "For Their Sacrifices".?
Name which entity you think would be pleased most to see humans sacrificing each other in G-D's name?

I understand where you're coming from I've been watching these videos about the argument that we're not a democracy and they're all far right wing propaganda and quite misleading. The Constitution can be amended. We now have the technology to get an accurate count in federal elections.

If not, your vote would basically be ignored without the electoral college. Educate yourself. Those states overwhelmingly go to one party. If those states alone determined the winner it would basically be a waste of time for the rest of the states (which is still a large majority of the country) to even vote, which is _not_ fair. Why is that hard to understand? Large parts of the country were ignored by candidates in past elections. How is 2 states out 50 exclusively deciding the election fair?

@@jesseleeward2359 They want a republic, which has certain rights that can't be voted away by majority rule, rather than a pure democracy, where the majority vote determines everything. It can mean that 49% do not get what they want. "Democracy" is seen more as the discussion that happens within that stable framework of the republic ("and to the republic, for which it stands," as in the Pledge of Allegiance). I think some of the founders spoke against the dangers of a pure democracy.
And in more modern times politicians have preferred to speak of "our democracy" which irks people who know we really live in a republic, or perhaps a "democratic republic." Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were members of the "Democratic-Republican" party... however as Wikipedia points out, that is a title retroactively applied to the Republican Party or "Jeffersonian Republican Party." (confusing!)
"Increasing dominance over American politics led to increasing factional splits within the party. Old Republicans, led by John Taylor of Caroline and John Randolph of Roanoke, believed that the administrations of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe-and the Congresses led by Henry Clay-had in some ways betrayed the republican "Principles of '98" by expanding the size and scope of the national government. The Republicans splintered during the 1824 presidential election. Those calling for a return to the older founding principles of the party were often referred to as "Democratic Republicans" (later Democrats) while those embracing the newer nationalist principles of "The American System" were often referred to as National Republicans (later Whigs).[10][11]"
So now the use of the words typifies where you stand on the left/right spectrum, with preferring "democracy" being more liberal/left and the word "republic" means you are more conservative/Republican/right.
Ironically the "Nationalist" first of the early Republicans seems at odd with the modern view of Republcians which tends to be more anti-Federal Government than the Democrats.

When the Electoral College was created in the constitution by the Founders, states allotted their Electoral College votes proportionally, based on the percentage of public votes received by the candidates.
In the early election cycles, if candidate A received 60% of the public vote, and candidate B received 40% in a state, and that state had 10 electoral college votes, 6 would go to candidate A, and 4 would go to candidate B.
It was later into the 1800's that states, seeking power with the Federal Government, gradually changed their rules to the "winner take all" system now employed in all but two of our 50 states.
Together with changes in campaign financing that have given outsized influence to wealthy donors and corporations, we now sit with an Electoral College where our President is elected by 8-10 "purple swing states" where 90%+ of the campaign money, and most of the candidate visiting time is spent.
During the campaign process, these all powerful swing states are promised extra Federal money by candidates if they get elected. Because of this, swing states now receive 2x more disaster declarations, and faster tariff relief than other states.
One has to wonder, is this what the Founders wanted for their representative Republic?

The electoral college is more so a check and balance. The original Roman republic had the head(s) of the state elected with much less restrictions by the legislative who were the people themselves not representatives. But because we chose representatives our republic is a bit different in processes and balance of powers. Sadly enough because of this democracy spew our system has taken a hit. For instance Congress used to be able to elect the senators. One branch voting in another just like the old Roman republic. This was changed and to me has brought great tragedy.

It is also noted that while the US is a federation it really has a lot of relics from its era as a confederation (not to be confused with the Confederate States). Yes, it is true that we are not a pure or true democracy, but we are also not an autocracy, giving power to a king or dictator.
We are a democratic republic, or put another way, we are a constitutional republic with democratic elements.
Our system is best described as a constitutional republic where power is not found in mere majorities, but in carefully balanced power.
Thomas Jefferson says the American experiment has been about harmonizing democratic and republican models, two "popular forms of government," each of which "drew its legitimacy from the people and depended on rule by the people."
The essential difference was the role of representatives to substitute for the gathering of all the people at one point in time and space.
"To take this as a rejection of democracy misses how the idea of government by the people, including both a democracy and a republic, was understood when the Constitution was drafted and ratified," Thomas said. "It misses, too, how we understand the idea of democracy today."

The reason is that America 🇺🇸 is a Republic of a country for America 🇺🇸 and Americans.
The reason must hold Bible to swear, that means it is very serious principles and must respect our own established constitution laws as American citizens as an independent nation America’s constitution laws instead changing without 37 States’ approvals or agreements. America’s greatness has never come easily. It has sacrificed so many Americans patriots’ life and death for exchanging America’s and Americans’ liberty of the freedoms and equality of the opportunities. Also it will subject to massive Americans’ happiness and Americans’ dreams as well as America’s world leadership status altogether. If America’s Constitution laws can be ignored, then Americans’ freedoms, equality of opportunities and happiness all can be ignored quickly. America 🇺🇸 is not a dictatorship system, but a civilized country America’s principles as governing bylaws. It doesn’t matter any Americans, foreigners, rich or poor, any races, genders, respect own country America’s established laws are necessary duties and responsibilities together. This critical time maybe our best opportunity for learning opportunities for learning experiences together and doing better things by learning from mistakes and changing mistakes, doing better things immediately always afterwards together again. If our enemies can’t destroy our country America’s greatness, then we Americans must cherish and appreciate our country America’s greatness and never let America’s freedoms and equality of opportunity to be diminished and destroyed quickly. This is why learning from mistakes and continue accomplishments are very important as one nation America 🇺🇸 together. America 🇺🇸 needs principles to govern to show the world America’s recognitions, efforts and commitment towards freedoms and equality of opportunity together. America is a civilized nation America to preserve own recognitions, values and bylaws together. Whoever governs, govern by Constitution laws are the duties as responsibilities toward Americans to ensure Americans’ happiness, because America is the country of American peoples, not dictatorship system. Otherwise, the entire world will wonder that what is going on? Will America still value freedoms and equality of the opportunities and govern by America’s own established constitution laws together? A civilized nation America’s greatness means that no one should guess what laws to respect or what laws can be ignored, but to respect laws as a peaceful nation America’s greatness together. Maybe this critical time is God given learning curve for Americans to learn from mistakes together peacefully through changing mistakes immediately and getting important things done quickly by learning into definitions of the laws together and move forward for getting things done quickly together again. Mistakes need to be changed, nation needs to be reunited, principles need to be followed quickly, things must be done right and quickly for stimulation of economy growing, encourage American dreams by hardworking efforts, we’ll be able to see strong growth quickly. Looting, robberies and murdering will destroy our country quickly, appreciate policemen’s efforts will stop bad behaviors quickly. So Americans of all races, all genders and between the rich and poor will be able to live safely, bring efforts for educations, learning experiences and hardworking habits to take care of families and build our country America’s greatness together happily again. America has been a family focused nation America peacefully by loving our country America 🇺🇸 patriotically and build America’s greatness, strength and happiness altogether again. America must be great. Americans love to see our country America’s greatness quickly. Only America’s greatness and strength will guarantee Americans’ safety and security, prosperity and happiness peacefully together. Only America’s own established Constitution laws will ensure America’s freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities forever. Let’s bring our learning together and doing better things together quickly. Doing better will see results quickly. Better results will ensure winning quickly. We are Americans together and all love to see our country great and strong, united and happy as proud to be Americans together by preserving, protecting and defending our freedoms together. God Bless America! 🇺🇸🗽♥️🌈☮️✨ Even silly goose 🐍American loves our country America 🇺🇸. I guess at this critical time, our greater hearts may help our learning process by getting into right track quickly from doing better by respecting our country America’s values of Constitution laws quickly.
