- Are your portrait caricatures looking mushy and unstructured? An otherwise well painted face will look “off” if the artist doesn’t think of the facial anatomy beneath the skin.

If you want your art to look finished, you need to consider the anatomy and shape design. Actively thinking of these things while you work is what separates amateurs from professionals. In this critique, you’ll learn how to improve upon your caricature’s strong visual design by learning how to improve the facial anatomy.

As others have said, this caricature course has been more than helpful to me, and I imagine, many others. I would love to see a continuation of the lessons into more of the painting stages; Understanding the lights and shadows and breaking them down into value systems, understanding and manipulating edges, shadow mapping etc. For example, how might you have broken the values down into lights, shadows, and midtones on this difficult reference? You've done such an exacting job of breaking down the drawing portion of caricatures, it would be a pleasure to watch lessons on a more finalized painting.
That Pelosi that lady drew is phenomenal. Lady you are a hell of a caricaturist.
Thank you Court! It was a pleasure to watch every video.
I've learned a lot with your videos, Thanks!
Genial ! Como siempre! Saludos desde Bucaramanga!

Maybe the highlight shape is also caused by diffraction the same way that stars appear to have spikes although they are round? It's simply called "diffraction spike" and it's caused by the obstruction of our eyelashes and protein buildup on our eyes. The same effect happens in telescopes but it's regular. I notice it clearer in highlights on cars on a sunny day for example. Anyway, it's a nice tip to simulate what light does (maybe) and it also helps describe the form better. thank you.
that helped me alot
oh! superbal! thats that i need!

He did good though, I could tell it was Paul Mccartney straight away.
Very nice...
Am i the only one that sinks that those "flapping" shapes and values on the student picture are just BETTER for caricature itself? You know - to express the person?
When you smooth them out the filling are just not there...
I appreciated the original. It showed her age and emotion. The "corrected" version is smoothed out and it lost my attention.
How many years are you drawing?
I've been doing caricatures professionally about 21 years. But I also drew a bit growing up.
can someone teach me how to align the brush strokes to the direction of the pen please?
With your brush selected, go to the "Brush Settings" palette. Click on "Shape Dynamics" and under the "Angle Jitter" setting, select "Direction" as the control. Then save that brush as a new preset.
Court Jones thank you very much!
