Last 21 runs when SA were 8 down, Pak bowlers didnt even bowl yorkers to tail-lenders and kept bowling outside off-stump for edges. Even field setup for them was not to restrict singles. Poor captaincy overall, DRS doesnt matter there.

Amazing discussion as always! For me the biggest difference between Pakistan and other teams is the number of dot balls especially in the middle overs. It is extremely extremely crucial to keep going at least at a rate of 5 between overs 11 to 35-40 and keep rotating strike. You can power hit in the first 10 and the last 10-15 but knowing to conserve your wicket but at the same time taking singles is the difference between South Africa, India, New Zealand and the Pakistani team.
Well for me they didnt play their all 50 overs.. Dots would have been way more than what its now.. 😂

Just look at the dot ball percentage of the Pakistani top order, Babar had 36 dot balls out of the total 66 balls he played and similarly other top order bats from Pakistan. Playing risk free cricket doesn’t mean offering a dead bat to the bowling but rotating the strike without the likelihood of getting out. The top order’s inability to rotate the strike resulting in a high percentage of dot balls and not managing to bat the full quota of overs, today they forfeited 20 potential runs since they were all out in the 47th over. They lost the match due to these failings.

You are correct. If the batsman allow the bowler to settle then it will be difficult to score runs. Singles and doubles instead of dot balls will be huge advantage especially during the middle overs when there is four fielders outside the 30 yard circle. Making mistakes is ok but not learning from the past mistakes and keep committing the same mistakes again and again is a big crime. How they are going to bounce back from this losses will be interesting to see? Before pakistan got inzamam ul haq, muhammad yousaf, younus khan, misbah ul haq, shoaib malik in the middle order who can play well against fast bowlers and spinners equally well but current middle order is too weak to handle big matches pressures. Mindset should be changed according to the modern day brand of cricket.

By far this was the best match of this world cup so far. Pak team fought till the end today which was good to see finally. But SA is high on confidence this world cup and did a world of good to remove the "chokers" tag that is associated with them.

SA was good throughout the match. They restricted Pak and finished the game even with only one wicket in hand.
Actually their batting wasn't that good. DeKock got out to a very stupid shot imo. Straight to the fielder. Almost like he forgot where the fielder was. Klaasen played a very unnecessary shot and got out. Maarkram got lucky many times and in the end tried to end it too quickly and got out. He should've stuck around and gotten singles/doubles. If he was there, they could've finished much earlier and with wickets in hand. They choked again. Markram even though scored 91, imo he gave up his wicket very poorly in the end.

Right now the same thing comes up in my mind they didn't talk about rizwan batting.
When you are on the losing side, it's hard to think straight and look at the positives.
Everyone is criticising Pak for not completing 50 overs. Seriously! When they were 141/5 under 28 overs, I doubted they will even finish 40 overs and 270 seemed like a distant dream.
Similarly, SA were 206/4 in 33 overs and Miller and Markaram were milking runs and it seemed they will win in 40 overs. But both the times, to come back and how! Being an Indian, my heart pains to see a formidable team being thrown out due to a silly umpiring decision.
And guys, pls don't be hard on Nawaz, if he hadn't made those 20 odd runs, u guys wud be under 250 and how can u be sure, Osama wud have bowled better than him? What if Nawaz wud have bowled the last pair? So either u r a Hero or a Villian. Nothing in between. No marks for trying honestly and giving ur blood and heart to this beautiful game!
History reminds us that whenever a change or a reform has to happen, someone needs to give a sacrifice. One big positive from this "historic" match wud be, ground Umpire's say in a decision which is reviewed to 3rd umpire, are NUMBERED. This silly rule is all set to go, all this while this matter was shoved under the carpet but only today have we witnessed, the gravity of the damage this silly rule can do.
Team Pak, hold your heads in high spirit, the entire cricketing fraternity wants to see the brand of cricket u guys have entertained us with today.

If you're lucky before last wicket or so many overs remaining
Bowling side will still have chance to take a wicket somehow

44:15 wasim asking the question why foreign coaches don't stay with the team in Pakistan is mainly due to security reason. Boon incident in 2007 world cup also a unforgettable incident that can't be ignored.
This year has seen a spike in terrorism. Even the teams who visited sent their B team. Pakistan used that to become no 1. But now they have met A teams they are losing all the time
India is a much more comfortable and luxurious place to live now in comparison to 90s. Meanwhile Pakistani economy has deteriorated substantially.
And his point was why hire them then? Logistics are an issue. If you can’t accommodate them, for safety reasons than look for better, local coaches. How do you coach a team sitting in another continent?

It has happened many times with DRS. Because it was the last wicket and a crucial win/loss situation you are making big issue. But in the larger scheme of things this is not a big deal.
Pak didn't even played complete 50 overs while batting, could have added another 25 -30 runs easily.
Pakistani players intention was clear in match .. they were playing for timepass ..
On batting pitch pak score only 270 .. minimum 320 was good score .

Samaj nahi aaya Nawaz ko woh over kyu diya. Usama ne usse pehle 2 overs bahot achhe dale the, infact Markram ko out kiya jo 91 pe tha. It would have made sense to give that over to wrist spinner like Usama who was already high on confidence instead of Nawaz who was clueless and clearly not ready for it. This was pretty ordinary captaincy from Babar.
I don't know why babar has kept 5 fielders in circle after 8 down , Single nahi dete toh shayd batter bada shot khelne jaata but he has opened the field and easily provided South Africa team a win . Saare players andar lene chahiye the !!

Prima faci that ball of Haris Rauf looked missing leg stump when you see it at first instance He was bawling from wide of the crease and with the trajectory of the ball it never straightened enough to convince umpire to give him out so you can't blame umpire for the decision

1. Not playing Fakhar Zaman.
2. Not scoring 70-80 runs in powerplay.
3. Sending Iftikhar at no. 5.
Though I m not a supporter of Pakistan...yet I would say that the umpire was clearly biased...he didn't give wides as wide when Pakistan was batting and gave wides when they were legal deliveries when they were bowling...people need to be vocal about these things...
It was good match. I think pak problem is it is not able to score more than 5 run per over.
Indian fan here but I was hoping for a Pak win. If only Naseem had been there. Some amazing moments nonetheless especially that spectacular Rauf catch. Overall a poor World Cup from Pakistan one has to say.

They just wait for celebrations to come every two three overs. Everybody Team, media, public everyone wants cheers in every moment.
It is possible in short formats only.

If you say Shamsi is out. Then you have to agree that Dussen is not out. Dussen is a proper batsman than shamsi. So considering is factor can't argue on this LBW. Pakistani bowler gives so many extra runs as well fielder. This is main thing you need to look for.
LBW decisions still continue to haunt Cricket. Shamsi was 'more out' than 'not out' 70/30. Dussen was 'more not out' than out. 30/70. If you get two umpire's calls, one on the 'hitting inline' and the other one 'clipping the stumps', then you know it's a poor decision and should not be given out IMHO

One thing that the panel missed out on discussing is that Pakistan gave away 20 extras. That’s almost a batsman’s worth of runs in a game like this.
Waseem mentioned it. SA gave 19 extras while Pakistan leaked 21. Not a big difference. Too many dot balls hurt them badly. They made 270 runs in 21 overs as they played 23 overs of dot balls. That is why intent is so important in ODI

And greater one is a miised out last 4 crucial overs had they played all allocated over they would have scored 300+ easily. However , biased decision should not be ignored as well

Babar's stats might be reasonable in WC with 3 half centuries but none of his innings has any sort of impact on his team ... even in today's match he made 50 which is good for him but had he stayed till the 45th over Pakistan would have played the whole inning and that would have been impactful innings not this one.
He is playing well but not batting until the later overs like Kohli as an example. His contribution is enormous but if the remaining line up do not succumb under the pressure and set examples unfortunately we will never progress.

Babar's innings were just good and will not be remembered.. he made three 50s in this WC, all in losing cause, had he continued in one of the innings till the end and helped Pak win ... that would have turned that innings into great and Babar's stature as a batter.

Hitting half century in 60-70 balls will always haunt you. 3 half centuries by the Pakistan captain, and still losing the match shows how selfish he is. He's just saving his ICC ranking.
Lack of game awareness cost pakistan the match. E.g. nawaz going for big heave off jansen despite knowing he is the last batsman and jansen had only 1 over thereafter. Moreover 156 dot balls in an inning is too much in modern cricket.This team looks docile as compared to earlier pakistani teams. I am of the opinion SA started choking. Klaasen played a very poor shit and got out. No need for big shots when he got out and he hadn't even experienced the pitch that much. Markram got out with desperation trying to end it too quickly and leaving his team in danger. He should've taken singles and doubles and stuck around instead of trying to finish with big shots. Pak if they had scored even 10-15 runs more by just finishing the 50 overs, would've won the match. Pak bowled decently but it's more SA choking again. Thankfully Maharaj held his nerve more than Markram towards the end.

To beat top teams like South Africa you need to be on top of your game in all three areas. Pakistan’s batting did not fire properly today and I think that was the difference. Pakistan would have won if their batting performed today. Their bowling and fielding was outstanding.
