@@katehills5402 i used 6 inch round pan It was just ok, not too flat, somewhat like the author's one I quess ^^ There are actually some other receiepes out there on youtube for some larger flans, maybe you should consider using one of them? I also cooked flan cake by the recipe from Cooking Tree channel, and it's a bigger taller cake and it was delicious as well ^^

That looks so delicious and pairing it with chocolate cake is very intriguing. In Vietnam, we call it Bánh flan and it's just by itself but ours comes with much more caramel syrup and then we put a scoop of shaved ice on top. It's very refreshing especially in the evenings in summertime.
What I love about these videos is the simplicity of the ingredients! Nothing fancy, you can find these in any supermarket should you choose to recreate the recipes

I made this yesterday and my cake layer was great but my flan layer is not completely set and the top is all wrinkled and cracked. I don't know what did wrong. Maybe my water bath was too hot or the oven temp was too low. I set it at 160°C according to your video even though I used to bake a different flan cake recipe at 177°C and that one turned out fine. The chocolate cake layer is fine though and the overall cake is still delicious. Think I'm gonna try this again after I devoured this messed up one.
not really, even though the main ingredient is eggs. it should be smooth and creamy, with a little bitter sweetness from the caramel. i've heard that using eggs that are as fresh as possible will minimise that 'eggy' flavour ^^
