    This is the the second Damian Strohmeyer presentation I've watched. His photography is superb. His insights and observations are exceptional. "You have to be a great photographer, not good, not above average, great!" says it all.

    Did he say 70 SI covers?? Wow. He is super humble and gave very specific useful information. This was a really good talk. Thx B&H and Damian.

      Been doing high school sports photograph for two years. This session will help immeasurably, especially the football and basketball advice.

    The pic at 56:07 is brilliant. It is my favorite from the entire video.

    Great advice but there is more to sport than just popular American sports and some very knowledgeable
    people on those other sports.

    Excellent presentation. North American / NHL rinks are 200 / 80 while international / Olympic rinks are 200 / 100 ft.

      Slight correction - international is 60 x 30 meters - close but not quite 200 - 100 (about 197 x 97 or so )

    Great video, lots of awesome stuff! I have a question though... What aperture are you selecting when shooting basketball? Are you at 2.8 or do you try to stay at 3.2-3.5? I shoot for my university's basketball team and the lighting is just awful. I use a 60D (it's the school's) and I have to shoot at 5000 ISO at 1/640 to stop the action. I am usually at f/3.2 to give me some leeway for focus, but do you think a lower f stop is better? Thanks!

      +Lucas Almond With sports video, shooting at higher apertures provides the maximum sharpness at the best depth of field that the ambient lighting will permit.

    Can you please send a link to the material you use to make a hockey hood? Sounds like a great idea.

      +Kevin Sousa - It sounds like Damian Strohmeyer uses a neoprene knee brace. You should be able to purchase one at pretty much any drug store or pharmacy. Otherwise, if you would like more specific advice, you could try to contact him directly on his site. *Christina* AskPhoto@bhphoto.com

    So what about how to use a manual lens during fast moving events?

    • @joelsanford
      @joelsanford 8 років тому

      +jimmyfly Probably because he talks about it in the video, how the snow makes it impossible to use autofocus...

      Prefocus to a known location on the field and mash the shutter when the action gets there, just like in the days before autofocus. Or have really good eyes and try to follow-focus! :-)
