I'm just trying to figure out if he wrote this song, because the original title for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete was supposedly his other hit, "Calling".
The only reason people are bashing Kyosuke is because he has a Japanese accent. Quite frankly, fuck them. Like you say, Gee worked with him for a reason, and it's because he's good, and both of them have lost family members to cancer, which is why Kyosuke sings "you'll never hear me say I won't kiss you," in reference to MCR's song, Cancer. They are beautiful, and I love them both for what they've done here.
I admit that I came because of Gerard, but the song as a whole with Kyosuke and Gerard is really good. I like how different their voices are but still sound good together.

There is a reason why these two worked together, they were both fans of one another. It's an east meets west kind of song. Two different styles mashing together to make a whole, listen to some of Kyosuke Himuro 's Japanese songs, it may take some getting used to, but it's actually pretty good stuff if you can give it a chance. One I always liked was the song "Calling". That's a good jumping off point.

IMO, it's a great shame that Safe and Sound was not used in the English ver., given MCR's popularity in the West. They could have sold a ton more Blu-Rays had this song been used instead. About the music video: its interesting that Kyosuke and Gerard are singing in a desert and in the end it starts raining. Zack Fair also died in a desert as he protected Cloud Strife from Shinra's army, and passed on his legacy to him as he lay dying in the rain.

Himuro needs more appreciation! He's so popular in Japan that it surprises me how he's not really known internationally. I find that's the case with many Japanese musicians, unfortunately.
