No it isn't. I had a job in the restaurant industry as a prep cook some years back, then my boss suddenly added dishwasher duties to my job. That wasn't in my job description. My job was solely to prepare the ingredients necessary for the restaurant. The dishwasher duties weren't in my "wage". Between the stress of doing both things, I quit that job. That was "quiet quitting" since they got what they wanted for making me do 2 jobs for the price of a single job. There's not "acting your wage" in that. It's just abuse of power from the whoever the boss is.

The problem with "quiet quitting" is that it misuses the word "quitting." What people are describing is refusing to work outside of their classification and only fulfilling their job requirements. It has nothing to do with quitting or refusing to do the job they were hired for. The name grabs attention, but is incorrect and misleading.

That’s why job descriptions always say “and other duties as assigned” that way there is no cap to fulfilling. Anything could be “part of your job” as long as that’s what you are agreeing to do when you apply. I actually have that line removed before I sign or agree to anything. Something that vague is setting you up later down the road when you refuse additional workload.

so lets summarize. "Quite Quitting" is employees doing their job as they were hired to do it. "quite quitting" is what most of the other developed countries encourage workers to do since it improves productivity and mental health. Meanwhile "quite firing" is just a boss being an A-hole and a jerk to someone so they quit because they cant legally fire them. One is essential to a productive happy society and the other one is usually breaking labor laws it's just unprovable from a case by case base.

Quiet firing is what nearly every employer has been doing for the past 30 yrs. They pay you what they absolutely have to and not a penny more. They give you the least amount of a raise as they can possibly get away with or no raise or promotion at all if they don’t have to. They give you the least amount of training, time off, benefits as they can until you finally quit in order to get the pay increase you deserve and the benefits that come from the extra work. I’ve known so many employers that try to pay almost minimum wage for an employee that has a college degree and years of experience then complain that “workers don’t want to work”. Employers don’t want to pay for the work. That’s the actual real problem. I guarantee you if you post a job with a bit above good pay and great benefit, you’ll fill every single position before the end of the week. The issue is the employers want everything but pay nothing for it. Gee I wonder why they can’t fill all those low paying positions that require you to give up your life so they can buy that extra vacation home while expecting you to just live out of your car across the street from your job so you’re always available to them.

I could not have said it any better.
I hate when people say, “They’re just being lazy.” When the real lazy people are the CEO’s and owners who take in all the profit. It’d be a different story if wages haven’t been stagnant and pay increased with productivity, but it doesn’t. Managers are given bonuses based on labor percentage so they’re incentivized to keep their workers low paid.
I myself have put in more hours than I should for a company and wasn’t paid what I should have been. Worked on average over 70 hours a week for a good time period for the same employer, but since he had his business under separate LLC’s, he avoided paying me overtime.
Then there’s non-compete agreements in fields of work that there are not many options should you lose employment.
The balance of power is too much in favor of the employer.

    • @nawakaida7499
      @nawakaida7499 Рік тому +3

@@doisenwadzinski6171 the gap between CEO and average employee used to be 30%. It’s 300% now. They claim increasing minimum wage to (a still unlivable wage) will cause them to let go of employees or lose their business. Lies. It just means the gap will go down to a 280% gap and that’s what they’re really crying about. Greedy AF.

    • @MR-nl8xr

Yup. I used truly believe that there were a lot of lazy employees out there, but after 10 years of doing my trade and especially after witnessing the last 3 years of idiocracy on every level of society, I now understand they don't want skilled, or even hard workers, they just want slavery.
The days of working your way to the top are gone. If you want the raise you deserve after getting so much experience and doing everything you can to save a company money, then you have to go to another company; sad reality.
What bites me is how disconnected third party recruiters or companies are today. they really look at you sideways for having different employers on your resume " you seem to be doing a lot of jumping around??" I have to bite my tongue from saying " Yea, when's the last time you were supposed to get a raise?? Because that's how many times YOU were GOING to have to "jump" as well ".
Spent the last 10 years almost never seeing the sun from so many overtime hours and personal training hours to get better pay (just to afford living in this idiocratic state) and all of that to just get shoveled back down by burger flippers making $19-$20/hr; FUBAR.

The company fired her and she sued them and got big paid. I mean she hadn't work for years. The reason she won was she did everything they hired her to do and within the 8 hours alloted. So it was a performance issue rather a not doing extra. Cost them big time. I should've done sued but was young and dumb. Smdh

I am in my mid-50'sand I see this has become a self fulfilling prophecy for the modern economy. Companies have significantly reduced pension contributions, while at the same time the average family costs (health and child care, further education, running a home including mortgage) has gone up considerably. If you look at the baby boomer generation, they had the financial means to retire at 60. That is less likely for Gen X'ers and definitely unlikely for millenials. This means a person in their late 50's or 60's, will have reach their peak on the career ladder (no incentive to impress their boss to get the next promotion) and will pretty much be there for the paycheck. What is their incentive to work harder than necessary?

Seems they both have the same definition behind it with maybe the only exception is one falls under lower paying positions (the Office assistant) and the other is under higher paying positions (their supervisors).

Then they stopped paying him when they realized their mistake. He was working for free since he didn't know he was fired and no longer getting paid. My last job tried to quiet fire me. I stayed longer than I was supposed to, and they were paying out the nose for the benefits Id earned. When they couldn't scare me off, they fired me for real, and I collected tens of thousands in unemployment wages. My former supervisor as well as those responsible in human resources were subsequently fired, and I now have a job that pays 3 times more.

It's really weird. But I have the time, FOR NOW. My "issue" is one co-worker thinks he's my boss and "volunteers" me for all kinds of non-work tasks, AND interruptions costing TIME. @That Tunisian Crochet Life salary professional position is not a union hourly position with rigid work specification. the quiet quitting is a signal that the person will do only the bare minimum, even if that is not the intent for every person. if you want to telework and make the most of your time at home outside of work, that’s fine, and that’s the signal you are sending, you want clear boundaries, and don’t want those boundaries violated. I’d be careful, because teleworking allows employers to draw from a much larger pool of talent, and if you don’t want me to ask anything extra of you, don’t worry, i won’t. employers also have more options now. and don’t expect raise or bonus- those are only for closers.

My position was such that everybody in the office could give me tasks but there was nobody to help me, nobody to ask for help. I wanted to show one guy how to send a fax and he said 'nope, if I know how other people will tell me to do it'
I'm still using pens and stickies and such I ordered for myself.
