Aww man, thank you so much. That means a lot to me. I love this community of people, and I just want to help out and be a part of it as best as I can :)
Completely agree about how healthy it is to learn a new Tetris skill from square one! I'm not sure if I have the motivation to commit a month or two to learn rolling, but I did spend a month adjusting to a Goofy Foot when I learned hypertapping back in late 2018. Coming from TGM on arcade stick, that meant my brain was adjusting to a very different stacking meta, the left/right reverse of movement & rotation (which I thought would ultimately help me keep my NES brain separate from my TGM brain---and that worked), and of course I was learning how much pressure to use for hypertapping. It was a slog at first, but eventually I got competent enough to play lvl18 on maxout pace and lvl19 nearly there. Working out your mental elasticity keeps your brain young, and it's always rewarding when you finally figure out that new skill.
I've been trying to figure out a rolling technique since I just can't seem to figure out Lv19 with DAS, and I can't wait to give some of these a try. As a piano player, I've never even thought about attempting to spread my rotation hand more vertically, instead of spreading it out horizontally. Thank you for the tips!!
I humbly accept your nomination. My first act as President will be to establish a 15 hour work week, and 25 hours per week of mandatory Tetris practice.
I struggle with the hand placement and the fact you have to find the right pressure to apply to the dpad it’s fun but if I’m trying to practice I mostly use DAS but now I know how to so I always use rolling and I got my first ever 100k points
Damn this is encouraging man Matt Martin not just rolling but well to? thats a great sign, nice man.I'm a Bass player so maybe itl make this easier for me ? lol. although finger playing ironically has always been one of my weakness as in my right hand finger speed is not that fast just couldn't get it to an elite level make up for it with other techniques and speed tricks basically but yah haha.Anyways this was awesome man thanks.
Cant wait to see ya against some players using this again man I really hope this helps your game a lot cause id love to see a veteran adapt to all this and be able to hang again with these kids...not that you cant you absolutely still can with respect of course ya guys can but you know what I mean it'd just be nice to see some familiar faces again in a lot of these events.
@@danielhicks4826 I hear ya man. I’d love to be able to keep up with the younger players. I hope myself or some of the veterans who have been around for a while will pick it up. And yeah, being a bass player may help out. I think a few of the rollers have played instruments like guitar or piano, and that is probably a big help with this technique. I’m glad you found the video encouraging! You can absolutely learn it if you put in the time and practice. It’s been rewarding already.
Thanks for the tips, I’m still in the low 200,000s pb. But I’ll try my best to get to a place where rolling is the next step. I wonder how Velcro stickers would help keep the controller in place, or would that be against tournament rules?
Do all right handed players use the right hand as the roll hand? To me, using the left hand so that you can don't have to hold the controller upside down seems waaay easier and more intuitive. EDIT: I see now that you need the A and B buttons at the top, otherwise it's kind of impossible to contort your hand to hit them.
@@Kadencabs I’m still kinda figuring out the nuance of that myself. But I think that particular problem just gets better gradually over time. I think I tend to rest my thumb over the direction that moves the piece left, while almost pushing it down enough to move, but not quite. Then move over quickly and do the same thing with the other direction when needed. Just takes lots of hours to feel those things out for yourself, but it does get better with time.
I love how you made a Tutorial on rolling! Keep it up Matt!
This man is such a gem to the community!

Thank you for making this! Awesome to see a DAS player able to go straight to rolling as well
You’re welcome! Yeah I was encouraged by a couple other DAS players that made the switch, so I figured I’d try and help encourage more to do the same!
I saw you at the KC Regionals today! You did great! Awesome video by the way!
@@AitchJayEm2012 thanks! Did we get a chance to meet?
@@rookoutrogue2603 I don’t think so, but I was able to see you live!
This has probably been the best video for tips and tricks on rolling after searching for hours.
Thank you so much for your video!

Great to see the das veterans getting into rolling. May you be the first of many :)
this is awesome, gl on your rolling journey dude :)
And a thank you :) I’m starting to see some good progress now. Even on level 29 speed, which I never thought I’d be able to play.
Hope to see you back at the Championships Matt!
I'll be there! Not sure if I'll make the bracket this year, but I'll at least make it in the room :)
Wow I just started watching this video but your style immediately got me. Great production. Keep it up!
Aww thank you so much! I hope to keep making more videos :)

I agree. I can’t find the balance between not holding d-pad enough or to much so it’s just das.

Why not using a sort of box or stick to block the contoller between your legs ?

This video is making me wanna pick up rolling … super intimidating..
Dude, I was very intimidated to start trying too, but it’s been a couple months and already seems well worth the effort.

I just can’t get it to register :(

rolling? more like trolling
Yea well, as a musician i say fuck that glove. Do you play a guitar with a glove? HELL no! Br DiggsAsura
Found ya ;) could argue with that. I have sweaty hands and my fingers will stick to the controller so it's a no brainer for me :)
The goofy foot control is expired... sad.
