His recumbent designs are amongst the very fastest race bikes ever. His cargo bikes are loved by couriers. He's nothing short of a genius.
Some decades ago I saw a bike, where the upper part of the seat tube was completely normal. The lower part of the seat tube, however, was split in two thin "stays" down to the bottom bracket. The chain stays were shorter than normal, so the rear wheel was much closer to the bottom bracket than normal. The wheel base was probably also shorter than normal. Above the bottom bracket the rear wheel was "cutting in" between the two thin "stays" of the seat tube. I guess, the purpose of this design was to make a more nimble handling than with a longer wheel base. This purpose could maybe also have been achieved by using a bent seat tube following the circumference of the rear wheel instead of a straight seat tube. I don't know, what the UCI rules would say about these designs.
I'm guessing most bikes for 2021 have already been designed and are in production as we speak (for example Canyon) so I'm guessing we wont see any of these changes take shape till 2022 bikes?

GCN really need to revise the crank-at-9-3 rule. It looks much more natural for the crank to point to the rear axle, which usually is inline with the chain stay (except for bikes with dropped stays), or inline with the seat tube. Level cranks are a practicality for identifying toe overlap, not an aesthetic, which is the point of Super Nice!.

C'mon Connor, do some research - that was a weak attempt on the Cipollini Cannondale, but if you were just looking at photo techniques, not only were the cranks wrong, but the valves were way off. The Spinergy wheels had incorrect logos for the era and would have had yellow "dagger" decals on the blades instead. Not sure what's going on with the exposed aluminum on the stays, as that was not original to that frame, and the fork would have been the Time carbon version. AND "splash" bar tape is hideous garbage that should never be put on any bike! Look at this: cycling.today/retro-pro-bike-mario-cipollinis-cannondale-caad-4/
If the seat post could theoretically come from any part of the bike. Might their be a forward and aft feature on bikes to move the position of the saddle in relation to the frame? Additionally. I would think that t would make a smaller, lighter and more aggressive frame more likely if you could have the saddle positioned BEHIND the downtube. The bike could then be smaller.

Imo the rule should be horizontal chain (often times biggie smalls). In the case of the ridley for example it looks better the way the person took the picture than it would have with biggie smalls.
A threaded to threadless stem adapter has been around for forever and they sure as hell don't cost $199. What's that all about?
It's an entire headset, not an adapter.
I think conor should have explained that one better but its a pretty slick device on closer inspection.
I would like have seen massive changes like recumbents.
Connor presenting is like sitting in the pub with your mates enjoying the craig.
I prefer it when you judge the "Bike Vault" I like the way you inforce the rules. That being said, you let the rules slide towards the end. It's was almost a 100%
THAT LAS ONE WAS SUPER NICE
I agree with Spinergy as an instant super nice. They're cool as hell
As long as you put the Spinergy logo level and not upside down.
Come on GCN surly you've got to send out a cap for both the dad and the kid for the prize in the ungrade comp. Matching bikes need matching caps.
Once again the bike doesn't matter its about how you present the bike. These rules are stupid and ruin the Vault. It's a bloody hike Vault not a oh look his valves line up Vault. Totally stupid.
So begins the laptop sticker cred war
The UCI never heard the rule RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG!
Actually, what I was thinking is “Why is Ollie on the left?”
Glad the uci bike rules are changing. Bring on the innovation.
The bike companies better get Mike Burrows on contract ASAP.
Big question, who is the better cycle designer, Mike Burrows or Graeme Obree?
@@taufikabidin412 Mike, Graeme's design was amazing, but Mike has made dozens of amazing designs. He invented Compact Road frames by adapting mountain bikes back when he worked for Giant. His recumbent designs are amongst the very fastest race bikes ever. His cargo bikes are loved by couriers. He's nothing short of a genius.
Canyon aeroad is probably the best looking bike of the decade in my eyes
Connor made me laugh with his coverage of the bike vault. Good job!
19:18 valves on the top, beacuse tire name is beter to read ;)
I'm guessing most bikes for 2021 have already been designed and are in production as we speak (for example Canyon) so I'm guessing we wont see any of these changes take shape till 2022 bikes?
@@mrnobodyplays147 I don't get it?
With so much negativity around Connor’s Bike Vault results has Ollie set up multiple accounts to complain so Connor doesn’t get to do the bike vault again 🤔
Had to check the date after I saw those dungarees
And that’s how manufactures get to sell new bike, change the looks and suddenly everyone is riding outdated bikes. I ride a 2001 Pinarello Prince with Campy Record and a 2016 Domane with Ultegra DI2. On short rides (less than 2 hours) I still prefer my 20 year old Pinarello, and it still looks great.
I welcome the idea of completely changing bike design , and if something different more efficient, more compliant, good looking and affordable comes out, maybe I will be in line to buy a new bike
Conor I am exhaustingly proud of you for not falling for the national color and not letting that green bike into the vault. That's what I call impartiality!
Do you ever get pics of recumbent bikes or trikes for the bike vault?
I listened in trepidation for the first four minutes wishing that finally the time has come to restart, after 86 years of forced delay in development... No way. Tube sizes, yeah. And preserve the aesthetics of an athlete reduced to a hunchback, keeping the head up like a quadruped: pure beauty.
I guess I must be a little late on this but anyway, CONGRATS MANON!!! At least something good came out of this year for you!
Butyl inner-tubes can be recycled as well so no difference there besides that butyl doesn't require oil so it might be better.
Don't let Conner do Bike Vault again! Spinergy wheels can cut off a finger, and crank arms are better when they align with the chain stays.
Conner getting out the protractor and spirit level for Bike Vault (except when he fancies breaking the rules himself)
Darn, I wanted the Pinarello Espada to come back...loll... or better yet the Parigina that Bjarne Riis chucked onto the side of the road. Ha ha!
Think a bike could have rods vice tubes in some places? Solid thin seat stays and forks?
Beam bikes are the best! The 90s was the best period in bike design.
Super thin bikes are going to look funny with gigantic water bottles hanging on them. Guess we all have to use hydration packs.....
Was this filmed before covid? If not why are you both so close to each other?
15:30-- cranks and valves off by a few degrees. No Conor is not upset at all being left out of the Italy trip with Manon and Ollie!
I would def rep a pair of those dungadoos, more eye catching then bib tights under jersey etc for sure!
Guys! I'll be in Bassano next week, cool!
3:02 “preserve the aesthetic of the bike and the sport” BOLLOX. Innovation is a prerequisite for progression.
You continue to be a stick in the mud and will remain stuck in the mud.
Innovation is the future
I will never ever trust Connor with the bell. :(
This episode was such a waste of time.
13:09 what BMC is that? Absolutely stunning!
Roadmachine
connor i saw across what looked like a beer bottle as you said (roughly), "IM in charge now(waps bell onto table)"
how much are those laptops earning with all the advertising?
My Tarmac SL4 actually does have a gold chain on it now!
You are all wrong on the chain. Not “biggie smalls,” but are the chain line parallel and horizontal. Biggie smalls looks wrong on classic frames.
I’m just looking at those views of Bassano, I’m a bit homesick now :)
Sorry missed in Italy where filmed in which bit Italy ? Just back Palermo. Missed Giro by about 2 days
need thinner tubes to make the arms look bigger?
Wasn’t the Spinergy wheels, you were subconsciously taken in by the chrome forks
What is the difference between dungarees and bib tights. Can only see that they are very similar
Only that it looks like it’s acceptable to wear the ‘dungarees’ over your jersey? Practical for comfort breaks but still a bit too ‘children’s television presenter’ for me!
The 'non 3 o'clock' position of the 15:01 BMC crank, is due mostly to the perspective of the photo, with the rear of the bike being further away. Come on, Mr.D
I'm just glad the UCI doesn't interfere too much with MTBs.
