    Did you know that Logic Pro X includes a high quality drum sample library, which supports midi mapping for your electronic drum kit? If the answer is no, then check out some of the nice sounding drum sounds from Logic's Drumkit Designer, that I am triggering from a Roland TD-17 sound module, hooked up to my beautiful drum-tec diabolo series limited edition kit (Grey Slate Finish).
    Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section and follow my Channel ‪@digitaldrumming‬ for more electronic drums demos!

    Beautiful tutorial!
    It was needed!
    As always, you never contradict yourself: professionalism, technical preparation and kindness belong to you.
    I share with you: LOGIC has a BEAUTIFUL FREE library of DRUM sounds and also other INSTRUMENTS that are worth using and are enough for my personal use.
    Do not underestimate the infinite possibility of modifying each single element of the DRUM independently at any time with the DRUM KIT DESIGNER function.
    Each element (hit hat - snare drum - kick drum etc.) can be adjusted with volume - tones - intensity - size - type - equalization - compressor - reverbs etc. independently of each other as in a professional studio and with infinite possibilities.
    After this premise I wanted to explain 2 problems to you since you are a great expert on the subject:
    1) I have the impression that using my TD17 first version connected with a midi/usb cable there is a bit of LATENCY.
    I use MacBook Pro 10.12.6 - 2ghz intel core 5 processor - 8gb 1867 Mhz memory - 256 gb archive memory.
    USB-midi cable
    It could be caused by the Mac requirements or by an INCORRECT parameter setting (latency value or other?) or by the fact that I directly connect the TD17 control unit through the USB COMPUTER PORT directly to the Mac without going through the sound card since I have a DUET 2 APOGEE that doesn't have midi inputs?
    Could it be better to pop out of the round MIDI socket on the back and connect with a MIDI/USB cable?
    2) Can the problem of the HIT HAT with rod that can make the MIDI values unrealistic be solved with a VERY STRONG and STABLE Hit Hat ROD?
    Thank you very much and I have always followed you in your tutorials with great enthusiasm.

    Fantastic drumming as always, Ralf! Always love watching you play. Beautiful kit as well. Which toms from that limited edition diabolo kit are you using here - is it the 8" and 10" rack toms (I know the kit comes up with 8/10/12/13 toms, so just wanted to get a sense of which components you are using here). Very nice video! Btw, I realized that you weren't using the VH-10. Are there any compatibility issues with Logic? Did the MIDI mapping work fine just out of the box?

    • @digitaldrumming
      @digitaldrumming  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Bruno, thank you! The VH-10 will also work nicely, but for triggering external samples, I usually use a hihat pad that is fixed, so that there is no unwanted midi information sent to the cpu from the hihat pad shaking & moving around. Using a fixed pad & controller pedal in this case gives you cleaner / more accurate midi data from the hihat, although it feels less natural without the real hihat stand unfortunately :) kind regards!

      Hi Jason, what was most surprising to me was that there actually is a well working mapping preset for v-drums included :) the drumkit designer is not a Superior Drummer by far, but it's another nice option for some additional "colours" I think. Kind regards!

  • @Dayopercussion

    Really nice playing. It looks like you're playing with an electronic hi hat trigger pedal. What model are you using? Do you get better response using the e-hi hat pedal vs using the hi-hat on a regular hi hat stand? I bought the Roland VH-10 and was going to do that but got a regular hi hat stand instead. After watching this video though, I wonder if I should've done it. Any feedback?

    • @digitaldrumming
      @digitaldrumming  2 роки тому

      Thank you very much! In this setup I am using a Roland FD-9 foot pedal /controller in combination with a fixed CY-8 hihat pad (you might also use the VH-10 pad on a fixed stand f.e.).
      Although the regular moving VH-10 hihat stand setup is much nicer & more realistic to play in general, a fixed hihat pad in combination with a controller pedal delivers cleaner midi data if you are using external sound libraries triggered from your DAW.
      When mounted on a hihat stand, the hihat pad has more vibration & movement going on, especially when you are playing half open (which is also pretty tough to play consistently when the pad moves around all the time). So in many cases it will be neccessary to edit / clean up the midi data afterwards, which is not neccessary when the pad is fixed & the controller pedal is not affected/touched by the hihat pad movement.
      Kind regards!

    Hi Ralph , I just bought diabolo snare, fantastic product, now I want upgrade my alesis to Roland module, I'm uncertain between TD 17 and TD 27, in your opinion what is the for triggering results on diabolo snare ? Do you think positional sensing is important or not much?

    • @digitaldrumming
      @digitaldrumming  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Emanuel, triggering/playability on a TD-17 will already be considerably better than with any Alesis module. But the TD-27 indeed offers positional sensing, and also the possibility to use Roland digital pads (the ride especially is great in my opinion). Also you'll have more in-/ouputs and a more detailed CC hihat open/close resolution as far as I have understood if you switch it to 127 (which isn't possible on the TD-17).
      All in all, both TD-17 and TD-27 offer great features/quality for their price. In the end, it also depends on which sounds you prefer I guess, as both modules sound different. Kind regards!
