    Scalers: "As you can see here, it's confirmed that this character is able to lift exactly 2000 pounds."
    Characters watching an American football game: "Man, he throws the ball for _miles."_
    Scalers: "Since the player is able to throw the football a distance of multiple miles, that means the field is many miles long, and since we can see the players and audience in scale to the field that means humans in this world are around 500 feet tall."

      It could work because of currents.
      To have a fast enough current to go up the 10km-high Red Line (as they do in Reverse Mountain) in earth's gravity; there must be a current of at least 1600 km/hr.
      Assuming this current continues in the Grand Line (and it is literally known as being a current); this would mean they could go around the circumference of Jupiter in 12 days.

      @@IamGrimalkin makes sense and to me that's cannon now that i know of the maths. though, i must question that while the straw hats were in the east blue, (with no crazy currents), they traveled across almost the whole ocean in under 2 weeks (i believe and shall be corrected if thats false). The east blue is at least around 25% of the world's entire size. i honestly think this is just an overlook on Oda's part, since sea navigation just isn't that quick when going by boat, especially the kind that the Merry was. but i wouldnt consider it a writing flaw, since months of sea faring doesn't make the craziest plots

    The Strawhats had literally sailed half the circumference of the planet (Paradise) and entered the New world in the span of months if you exclude the 2 years time skip when they weren't even sailing. The only outlier as you've said in the video is Alabasta, which unlike the other islands is shown to be extremely vast with no prominent cities noticable from a bird eye view, unlike Dresrossa. The Strawhats had to use fast means of transportation such as boats, carts and animals that can cross several dozens of kilometers in a single hour to make their journey. People need to realize that the One piece world is a sunken world. The existence of millions of islands is normal when the majority we've seen are just tiny isles with short distances between them, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a Jupiter sized planet. It's truly a shame how power scalers ruin the fun of discussions surrounding one piece to push their own headcanons.

  • @smartmuscle7011

    Rough math for Dressrosa IF Oda was consistent with sizes. Basing the homes in the city off of Montanesa style houses and giving them an average of 2500 m^2, overestimating the population to be equal to Madrid at about 3.3 million, and overestimating a single family of 4 to each house (unlikely given multi story and multi generational/family housing). You can take the population divided by 4 for the number of homes and then divide that number by 2500 m^2 (converted to 2.5 km^2) for a total island size of 330 km^2 or roughly 0.6 km across.
    Taking my overestimates into account with the undeveloped parts of the island and space between the houses, I think this is a fair assumption. Making Dressrosa smaller than Vatican City.
    Using that measurement and the rough scale of the bird's eye view of both locations. (Assuming an individual home in Alabasta is the same size as Dressrosa and estimating the zoom in on the Alabasta panel to be 10x plus some added distance.) I estimate Alabasta to be about 12x the size of Dressrosa. Making it 3,960 km^2 or a little over a quarter the size of the Island of Hawaii (10,432 km ^2 for reference).

    • @IamGrimalkin
      @IamGrimalkin 17 годин тому

      I feel like you must have messed your maths up somewhere.
      If you're assuming Dressorsa has the same population as Madrid (although I'm not sure why you are assuming that) you'd expect it to be roughly the size of Madrid; for obvious reasons.

    • @smartmuscle7011
      @smartmuscle7011 16 годин тому

      Population size doesn't have a direct correlation with land size. And I based it on the capital of Spain since the island is Spanish inspired. I'd have done the same with Wano and Japan.

    • @IamGrimalkin
      @IamGrimalkin 15 годин тому

      @ If population size doesn't have a direct correlation with land size; why are you using population size to work out land size?
      Either you can't use the population to work out the size of the city; or city with the population of Madrid is... ...the size of Madrid? You can't have it both ways.
      I really don't think being a Spain-inspired island means that the island has the population of Madrid. You could just as easily say it being a Spain-inspired island means the island is the size of Spain.
      It's a nonsense argument.
      I think the argument that the Dressora is 4000 km wide is also a nonsense argument; but that doesn't make your argument any better.

    • @smartmuscle7011
      @smartmuscle7011 14 годин тому

      @@IamGrimalkin You're right that I could just as easily picked any other capital city (because let's be honest Dressrosa is clearly not the size of your average country) or even picked population size with a similar time period.
      I also limited it to 4 people per building which is unrealistic from what we've seen in the show, potentially making the area even smaller with a higher population density due to undeveloped land we seen in the Birds Eye view.
      If you think there is a better way to find comparable populations and landscapes I'd be happy to redo my math. For example I can use the assumption that with a clear horizon the average human can see about 5km from ground level. I can take that to figure out how many homes could comfortably fit in about half of a roughly 100km^2 area (because the birdcage is visible with some of the rock wall from roughly the center of Dressrosa I'm assuming a 10km diameter) and figure out a population size based on an assumed area. Which would still likely be an underestimate based on four people per building.
      But that only makes the island smaller with a higher population density, I feel like I made more blatant assumptions comparing Dressrosa to Alabasta.

    • @IamGrimalkin
      @IamGrimalkin 13 годин тому

      @ I'd say either directly pixel-scale it using panels (which would still be a fan-theory but with something solid behind it), or accept you don't know the size of Dressrosa.
      You can't work out the size of Dressrosa by randomly guessing what the population is. It has to be based on something we actually know.
      The population could be 20000, it could be 10 billion for all we know; at least without having worked out size of Dressrosa *first*.
      But using the 'population of Madrid' assumption, you calculation is still clearly faulty. Because to spell it out to you better: why couldn't you use exactly the same logic on working out the size of city of Madrid?
      According to your logic Madrid would be 0.6 km wide and it clearly isn't. What that's telling you is something in your calculation is faulty.
      In terms of the 'clear horizon' thing; there are several reasons this won't work. Primarily because the 5km thing is referring to things you can see on ground level before they disappear below the horizon and clearly the birdcage is not on ground level.
      (although actually it's 3 km if I remember correctly, not 5km)
      It's obviously not referring to something randomly disappearing after a certain distance. You can see the moon in the sky with your naked eye, that's more than 5 km away.
      But also because the entire concept of objects disappearing over the horizon is based on the curvature of the earth; so any number you come up with is based on the size of the planet. So if you were using this as a way of debunking the large planet size (which is unnecessary because the logic for the large Dressrosa size is faulty anyway); you're making a circular argument.

    There is also the size of Onigashima, because of the picture you shared earlier in the video, powerscalers determined that onigashima is huge and since we see the size of onigashia compared to wano... then wano must be huge... and also bajrang gun is stupidly huge. Anyway, I'm tired of it.

    Pixel scaling is total bs yes, but the sandora river measurements and the 10 to 20 million islands are direct statements from knowledgeable characters and I don’t think they should be discounted. I don’t think we are approaching the size of the sun but I’m still down with the idea that the one piece planet is larger than earth, it wouldn’t be very Oda-like to have this larger-than-life story and make it literally not larger-than-life.

    Love that there are people who still believe the "Alabasta River is 50 km across" line when you can stand on one side of the river AND SEE THE OPPOSITE SHORE. Plus if Alabasta was 4,000 km across, there's no way it'd take the, like, 3 days it takes them to go from that port town to the sandstorm village to Rainbase to the capital.
    And yeah, if pixel-scaling is used for Dressrosa, you can SEE STREETS FROM THE AERIAL VIEW, meaning you can very easily determine how wide the island is, and it looks like it's maybe, like, a few miles across, tops. And if there are islands that size all over the world, then there may well be 20 million islands in the world, but they're just really small.

    • @IamGrimalkin
      @IamGrimalkin 17 годин тому +3

      But if the planet is larger it means there is less curvature so it's easier to see the opposite shore.
      And the 50km thing isn't just relevant in that scene, it is also relevant in the travel time mentioned later in the story. It took them an hour to cross the river on top of a catfish. A catfish moving 50km/hr is plausible.
      Obviously Dressrosa isn't that big though; people are just using faulty logic for that.

  • @IamGrimalkin
    @IamGrimalkin 15 годин тому

    I think the Alabasta argument works well. It seems likely to me; especially when combined with other evidence.
    Although you do have to always bear in mind it's a fan-theory. Some people act like this is officially confirmed by Oda or something, which is silly.
    Oda may very well overturn this later. He's even overturned things he *has* officially confirmed after all.
    The idea that the size of Alabasta means all islands are that size makes no sense. After all, on our planet we also have an island the size of Australia: Australia. That doesn't mean there aren't smaller islands.
    If it's based on a map that's non-canon so can be ignored. Certainly you can use the size of Alabasta to infer the Grand Line is very large and hence the planet is very large; but you can't that using maps and you certainty can't use maps to extend this to other islands.
    The idea that Dressrosa is that size is just faulty logic, I agree with you there.
    I'd never heard of the navigational device you mentioned before but I'm convinced. Although I never thought the number of moons was a good indicator of planet size in the first place.
    When it comes to Wano, it's true the evidence is fairly weak. However, sometimes when someone says something 'weighs a ton' it actually weighs a ton; and you find that more plausible when they look like they might have equipment capable of lifting a ton. So it acts as weak supporting evidence for the sizes implied by Alabasta, but it's nothing you can hang your whole theory on.
    But these are not the only pieces of evidence. Another piece of evidence is the treasure map Buggy found back when he was with Shanks.
    It has a map of our world on it. The 'undersea treasure' is somewhere 'west' of France.
    There are some differences including slightly different shapes and another continent north of Europe; but the similarity is uncanny.
    You could argue this was just back before Oda had established the geography of the planet; but at the time Luffy and Buggy were fighting over a map of (to) the Grand Line. The Grand Line is integral to One Piece geography. I find it rather implausible that Oda had Luffy fighting over something where he hadn't figured out what it was yet; especially when he spells it out it immediately afterwards in Gaimon's island.
    So with this knowledge, I expect that the One Piece World is much like the Hunter x Hunter or Toriko world: the continents of our planet are a small part of the overall world. This makes sense when you consider Oda's relationship with the authors of these manga.

    Very good video, great points all around. I personally feel like One Piece planet is pretty big, not sure how big it is, but I enjoy just thinking about there being hundreds of thousands of islands all over the place. I don't really care at all about pixelscaling or powerscaling, I just feel like the world feels richer when I imagine there being more to it than we know.
    I don't really like maps of One Piece world people draw that fill the seas with only islands we have seen in the story, I prefer thinking that we have just seen a small percentage of it. In that way I like thinking about One Piece world being bigger than people think. But it doesn't really mean that the planet itself has to be massive, it just means that there's more to it than we see.

    If you can track time across one piece fairly accurate, couldnt you measure the rough circumference of the world by travel time across the grand line? Like from reverse mountain to sabaody, then - the time spent on land and you have a rough ballpark, which would still be way more accurate then pixelscaling imo

    not only can we use the moon to track time, Oda does it intentionally; meaning multiple moons would throw allll of that out the window
    edit: might be a little bit flaky since its a story but also we know the moon is intentional because it lines up with other reference points of time. Accurate to how we can use the moon to depict time, meaning the moon and planet have the exact same orbit or atleast similar enough for moon phases to be identical. Throwing out all theories that the planet could be a different size at all. I hope the Vegapunk speech also starts to get people to realize this is how the time from one island to another is so short. The planet now has to be small or similar to earth to justify the islands density from being from entire continents themselves. Alabasta being the ONLY continent sized island that hasnt sunk and Nefertari Lily being the only King to not join the chair also now narratively makes sense. Making Alabasta not an outlier but intentional in of itself. Or atleast a happy accident.

    while it is likely that One Piece's planet is roughly the same size as Earth, i like the theories that it is a couple times bigger, purely because if gives them more of a world to get lost in for adventures. the romance of that, is why i choose do believe it, even if it has no substantial backing.

    Size of Sol works if it is a Dyson sphere around a tiny artifical star. You know, since the Sun God had been sleeping until Luffy woke it up.
    And "Bring the Dawn of the World" literally could be returning folks to the actual Blue Planet.
    This also supports "more than one moon" becase its an artificial moon that controls the "red eyed, white haired, super powered" form that seems to be the culmination if Fishmen, Mink, and Human evolution. Since the drugs, moon, devil fruit connections feels very related to the moon refrensences in Wano. The way Luffy is framed by the moon and the Lunarians having an almost photo negative reflection of the "sun" that is very much the red eyed silhouette of the demon that beat down Lucci. That "reflection" if Luffy, dark and terrifying and the sun/moon imagery of reflected light and shadows absolutely could tie into artificial suns and moons.
    Not likely but where i went with Robin's advocate.

    There is one moon, people who think other wise are stupid, but is it small like our planet? That's very debatable
    Like onigashima, when you see it on the side of wano, you think wow its very small but when you see the structure in front of it you know that it's very big
    General view can be deceiving like how big is Dressrosa for example
    Let's take what you established earlier Alabasta
    All of alabasta fits in the grand line the narrowest ocean in one piece, so if it's 4k km and doesn't block the grand line then the grand line is bigger let's say it's two times bigger
    So 8k and 2 calm belts are roughly the same size so another 8k so 16000 km is just the width of the grand line now imagine the length of it
    Keep in mind that the Earth's circumference is just 40 k km
    One piece world is at least 4 or 5 times bigger than that

    • @RayGrace_
      @RayGrace_ 16 годин тому

      First of all not to mention your terrible math the size scaling of alabasta is wrong as well just because a character said something doesn't make it true,just cause vivi said the river 50km doesn't make it 50km

      @Maxpain350 16 годин тому +1

      @RayGrace_ why?

  • @Hegataro
    @Hegataro 13 годин тому

    Using the Ar/labasta river as a measurement was always stupid to me, because re-read how wide that fucking thing is meant to be
    FIFTY. KILOMETERS.
    The width of the river is fucking stupid and wouldn't even have running water anymore - especially when considering that they can SEE THE OTHER SIDE
    And with the senri thing; you'd think that powerscalers would realize that that term doesn't ONLY mean 4000km, and actually means, you know, "really far", considering how often it shows up in the manga

  • @jdjack519
    @jdjack519 20 годин тому

    I'm honestly surprised that you didn't even need to bring out the fact that "forced perspective" illusions exist. Like... When these people watch LotR, do they really think the real Ian Mckellen is actually literally twice as tall as the real Elijah Wood?
    Close up, things look big. Far away, things look small. In a comic, those differences are often exaggerated. It's not rocket science lol

  • @55pm
    @55pm 11 годин тому

    The only thing you actually said is there is only one moon, no actual size of dressrosa, no proof if alabasta is an outlier, nothing related to that umbrella being smaller than we thought, no the size of wano according to you, no proof actual size of earth being the same as ours. All you said is that it could be smaller, which is in contrast of your initial statement of proving why it's the same size as our earth

      Although this guy tries to write it off very easily, the OP world is almost definitely bigger than the real world for a bunch of reasons. But that being said, I think AT MOST it’s 2x as big, most likely 1.5x. It’s not like 10x as big as earth or some crazy number that some people throw around
