While it's not quite my favorite FF game (it loses out to FF7, but only just barely) I will say that this is, without a doubt, the greatest tactical strategy game ever made, IMO.
+ThenThereWasOne I honestly love the graphics the game has, despite how bad they technically are. If I ever make my own tactical rpg, i will have a PS1 mode built-in jut for those people like me who love this graphical style. will it be cleaner? yes. same style though.
When I first playedt his game I didn't know how to beat this level. So I deleted it cuz I got frustrated XD. But one day I couldn't get one of the songs stuck in my head out. (Back fire) So I redownloaded it and I made sure to prepare for this battle and I was able to beat flawlessly. I only lost my wizard tho smh. The wizards are the first to get because they hurt the hardest.
Great battle song... Probably the best one in this game and it is only used once! They should have used it also for Lionel Castle battle (front gate), Weigraf battle (at Orabonne), and Bethela Garrison.
Well, not exactly that. But when I played the game as a kid, i couldn't figure out how to change classes. So I made it all the way to the final showdown with Gafgarion with a team of nothing but squires and chemists. It was... Not easy.
Such an amazing theme, yet they only play it once throughout the whole game. And in the slums, of all places... I mean, really? Am I the only one who thinks this song deserves more credit??
That moment when you are at Dorter Trade City, and the long bow archer kills both Delita and Algus because they are fully unequipped. >that other archer who does not have a weapon >the enemy wizard who you try to kill after you kill the knight
I remember first renting this after I had just got done beating FFVII. I didn't even know what the job system was at first, because I didn't play the first six games (except for MQ when I was a kid). I went in there with squires and chemists, and got my ass kicked, of course. But, once I figured out the job system, it was on!! I never got a greater feeling of satisfaction than dashing that archer off of the top of the building.
I'm currently playing "Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together" and there's a very similar track called "Avilla Hanya" which has the same awesome and greatness vibe
At my 10th attempt at beating this game, I became so mad that I decided to overlevel my party. Once I got up to this part, I already had a decent summoner and a ninja. My party was on level 13, while I was on level 15. Then I just went to town on those fools as they dropped dead like flies.
+S “Music4Ever” Manly "Look at us, we are going to go up the side of the building and promptly get our asses handed to us" I used them as cover from the arrows to get closer with my mage.
Well since you've played the game alot, perhaps you will be interested in the 1.3 mod from the guys as insane difficuty forum. If you do, there is no "dropping like flies" their, it is an absolute challenge.
I got so frustrated with this part that I decided to deeply level grind until I met these conditions: I got a decent lancer that could jump to certain panels and have equip sword, a ninja with equip armor, and a decent summoner who could summon shiva, ramuh, and ifrit. And finally, abuse the glitch in the game so everyone had the auto potion reation ability. I was at least at level 6 or 7 by this time, and delita and algus become useless plot devices.
S Manly I think you needed a better strategy. This battle was the first "real battle" where you have to think about how to do it. For example, you can beat it pretty easy without grinding if you give up a pawn to die and get HP 100% with the crystal. But even that is not necessary.
S Manly Another strategy - rush the enemy black mages with one of your fighters and make sure you get the timing right so you take them out before they get you. Then bring your own black mages with thunder learned. Thunder gets damage bonus in the rain.
Yeah you just have to strategize well... the first time I beat this mission/level I had two knights (one of them being ramza) charge in to defend my wizard and priest, the priest would constantly heal and provide shell while the wizard would reach back to hit the wizards with bolt. my guys were like level 5 or 6 and I stuck to the default troops u get so my guys had like no compatibility(I didn't do the tutorial so never played the zodiacs much mind). so naturally I died the first two times before shell actually hit everyone XD.
@@ghostbl33d65 Without leveling there is no way to have a priest or wizard in this battle. These classes aren't a strategy either. Using a lv 3 chemist, a squire and maybe a knight is where it's at. This game is fking hard and unforgiving when you don't know what you are doing.
My team Beast Ramza level 99 and an army of Behemoth, gigaflare is so powerful that even hits until even with zero faith, instant win xd and I have like 5 Titmant three headed dragon:D
Almost 2 decades later and I can still hear my mens screams from dying in this great battle.
DORTER. FUCKING. TRADE CITY!!
this just doesnt sound right without the rain, the sound of the camera turning, and those f***ing Wizards being d***s.
0:59 This is usually where everyone starts dying for me.

@@xzaeox6397 Yes, this style was the best. even thought it was kinda pixely, I still think it's the best. It reminds me of Ar tonelico.

The chapter 1 Dorter battle is probably the most decisive level in the game.and one of the hardest.
And then there is Fovoham and Golgarand/Lionel. Oh boy.
Um... specify please?
That 3 part fight got me, I was under leveled and it took awhile to beat velius. then the assassins on the roof.
Has anyone tried doing the game without any grinding, so only story battles and fights on the way to those battles?
Well, not exactly that. But when I played the game as a kid, i couldn't figure out how to change classes. So I made it all the way to the final showdown with Gafgarion with a team of nothing but squires and chemists. It was... Not easy.

No. That freaking battle deserves its own theme.
SkyCloudPrincess Using it once preserves its uniqueness. It is the "Dorter Trade City" battle theme.
Dorter is a special little early-game hell. It deserves it's own theme.
In the Playstation version the song was used a few times, but the PSP version only used it once
Was about to say- last time I played i recall it being used a couple of times. Most famously at Dorter, of course.

That longbow archer was the bain of my existence.
@@sushibarker2775 that's why I ususally gave my algus and delita equipment and swords so they can take him out.

Yes... The leader of the Death Corps.

Dorter Trade City. This was where the game got real. This whole story arc was flawless, and your combat skills had to be equally flawless.
Enter: Ragequit for many people new to FFT.

I have no idea why this was only used once in the whole game.
Aye, the commander of the Corpse Brigade.
Shame that this wasn't used for the Ivalice raid series in FFXIV, such an awesome track.
Pretty sure the boss music for The Delubrum Reginae that released this week in Ff14 uses parts of this.

Lol I beat it first try with two characters somehow: a monk and a thief. It was a two character only run, and we only did one random encounter.

How were the mobs in the wild.... lmao
Dunno why but geomancer female design looks like something from studio ghibli 🐼
Wasn't long enough.
Black mages.
With the wrong element staff.
Casting fire magic.. in the rain.
Still murder you.

And that basically sums up this fight. Yay dying.
best song in fft
