  • His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has highlighted the pivotal role of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) in advancing Malawi’s 2063 development agenda. Presiding over LUANAR’s 8th Congregation at Bunda College Campus, President Chakwera lauded the institution as a trailblazer in mindset transformation, a cornerstone for achieving the country’s vision of economic self-reliance.
Addressing 689 graduating students, the President emphasized the importance of shifting from subsistence farming to innovative, sustainable agricultural practices. “Being a LUANAR graduate means refusing to harm systems that are vital to keeping our economy strong, healthy, and beneficial for all,” he stressed. He further urged graduates to adopt systemic approaches that benefit not just individuals but the nation as a whole.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding broken systems, noting that true self-reliance will only come when these efforts are fully realized.
LUANAR Vice-Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Kaunda commended President Chakwera for prioritizing quality education, while Council Chairman Professor Zachary Kasomekera encouraged graduates to add value to their skills and knowledge for impactful contributions to Malawi’s development.
This ceremony underscores LUANAR’s role in equipping leaders for the country’s transformative journey toward Malawi 2063.
