Lovely video mate. The most natural angler I’ve ever met, and a top bloke, you were always going far. You should be very proud of everything you have achieved. I’ve always admired your ability to embrace new concepts and ideas quicker than everyone else, and make them your own. Thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot. X
I love watching content like this. One thing which is common amongst many people who are happy and successful in life is the fact that they worked hard and grabbed every opportunity which came their way, even if that meant taking risks and stepping out of their comfort zone to reach their goals. Far too many of us don't like to rock the boat, and stick to what we know. Joe could have easily decided to carry on working along side his dad and his life taken a different direction. Thank you Joe for sharing your story. I wish you continued happiness and success in all areas of your life
That has to be one of the most rewarding fishing videos I have seen. Your honesty and passion about the sport is plain for all to see. When I’m out on the bank and the going gets tough ( most days 🤣🤣)I will just think of this video and smile. 👍🏼🎣🎣
Fair play to you Joe for being so open with it and laying out the minuses too. I remember you as a mad keen youngster on Total-Fishing / Angling Forums and you still have that eagerness. Hands down I'd say your media content is the best out there and NuFish did themselves a solid one getting you as youve pushed their media content and presence well forward 👍 I've dabbled a bit - done a few feaures in years past and a bit of work on Midland/Southern Angler magazines after DHP sold the titles. It was a great time but not to be for me. It can certainty be a selfish job being away and hard to balance with having a young family and you're smashing it!
Absolute cracking video Joe, I take my hat off to you .people assume that all Sports media coverage is well payed but it’s not, I used to write a weekly article in my local paper on all of the club waters. Where the best places were fishing , how the matches performed , etc and I really enjoyed it for 16 years but the amount of time it took to gather the information ,write an article , send it to press it did start to dwindle my fishing time, also you feel like you’re talking angling 24/7 . But well done for what you’ve achieved Joe.
@@darrenreed8783 thanks. Luckily I’ve worked to a place where I earn a good living. I’m also fortunate that by diversifying my own angling I have more passion for the whole sport than ever. Feel very luck 👍🏻

An enjoyable video, had none of this kit back in 87 when I was briefly News Editor for Angler's Mail. Can certainly relate to being thrown in at the deep end!
Nice video and insight Joe, long time since the angling forums matches, you, Fisky and Adam have done ok. Like you I was a sparky and changed jobs to pushing a pen instead of a toolbox, and got sick if watching my local club going down the pan so took the chairmans roll in 2017 and started the process of rebuilding the fishery and club. Now retired and enjoying my fishing, making floats, building odd tip rods from old fly rods.
Facinating. You should be a guest on Guru Fishing podcasts. As an old noob, I like hearing these back stories as much as I like watching you heroes fishing and teaching me stuff. Excellent content, Joe. Googling Rather Outdoors was a real eye opener. Never heard of them until today!
Hi Joe , great story I’m 15 love match fishing and love fishing as a whole. My dream is to fish. And your videos inspire me to be great so I work hard every day to become better and tweak the bits in my fishing to give 100%. So thanks for the advice hopefully one day will be as great as you.
Another great video as the norm Joe. I've worked in the building and now drive an FLT. But love my fishing and would love to try my hand on the video side of things. Basically live at Makins and finally got to fish Barby again. So thanks for all the great video's And you may not be Rich but you can see your happy. That's what matters. 👍
Hi Joe - great video & some good advice for anyone aspiring to get into the business as well as general career guidance. I remember when you took over as Editor of Match Fishing Magazine - David said to me over lunch it was one of the easiest decisions he made at DHP. Hopefully catch up at the Glebe next year for the memorial match.
There’s nothing like a story to help engage and communicate, insightful and inspiring Joe. A couple of points. Firstly from a NuFish perspective I’d say keep the focus on quality and the brand build will follow. PI have changed and you can tell with recent product releases the quality isn’t the same and the price point value has eroded. More than ever anglers need and are looking for quality and value. Secondly there is still a significant gap and opportunity in our sport and industry to exploit digital technology, to the advantage of the angler, fishery, brand and manufacturer. I’ve briefly discussed this at senior level with a reasonably well known angling digital media party whilst reaching out, albeit tentatively, to other organisation. Happy to discuss.
Interesting to hear the back story. I'm too established in my career in data now to make the move but still enjoy the video production and publishing as a hobby. The most frustrating part for me is that youtube gets to pick who sees the videos so the title is more important than the video itself and the videos I'm happiest with don't necessarily relate to view numbers. Luckily as a hobby it's not really important but I'd imagine doing it professionally can be stressful.
@@MatchFishingFilms In that you think the channel name implies it's match fishing videos only? The advantage is that it looks like an extension of Match Fishing Magazine. A lot of channels seem to create spin off channels to focus particular types of content on each but I'm not sure at what number of subscriber / view levels that becomes a productive thing to do.

Very Interesting to watch Joe . I will be interested to see if you take a look at the X75 pole and what your thoughts will be on the comparison between that and the X70 that i know you really like .Going to give one a bit of a waggle myself when i can as i feel paying 4k upwards for a top end pole is now beyond most Anglers reach , what with the cost of spares that you need to add as well. But just under 2k feels more realistic for your non professional anglers. so far heard great things about it so fingers crossed its as good at everyone is saying .
