- A talk given at the 1993 SRF World Convocation in Los Angeles as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda’s birth. Sri Daya Mata was the president of Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society of India from 1955 until her passing in 2010.
In this talk Daya Mata explains that Paramahansaji was sent to the West to address humanity’s hunger for direct personal experience of God. She provides insight into the deep underlying reasons for the current difficulties in the world situation, along with uplifting counsel to help us to connect with the Inner Source of security and reassurance.
She says: “We must change. That was the message of Master [Paramahansa Yogananda]; that is why this work will grow on and on and on-because it can and will help people to change.
“Afflicted by suffering, people say: ‘Why did God do this to me?’ He didn’t do it to us. We must take responsibility for ourselves. When we hit a stone wall, the wall doesn’t mean to hurt us; but we may break our knuckles, or our head! This is what we must learn.
“That is why God created divine laws and set them forth as guidelines in all the great religions of the world. To each of us He is saying, ‘My child, these are the absolutes you must follow.’ He knew that we were weak; He knew that we were frail. He knew we had lost contact with Him by our becoming too much immersed in this material world. Those laws are there to help us know when we are doing wrong. We must not go against those ancient divine principles.”
In his #HowToLive teachings, Paramahansa Yogananda has given to people of all cultures, races, and creeds the means to free themselves from physical, mental, and spiritual inharmonies - to create for themselves a life of enduring happiness and all-round success.

I came upon paramahansa yogananda book in jail , among all the negativity and chaos in there I felt a strong peace sitting in silence with his teachings, I’ll never forget that 15 years later . Amen 🙏

Yogananda has been in my life since I was 6 or 7y. Now I'm 67😊.
This woman, our beloved, and my own physical mother have always been the two most important women and guides in this lifetime. We in New Zealand felt very isolated following SRF. Noone about me or who I spoke to had heard anything of SRF or my Guru. But Ma would send out greeting letters at Easter and Christmas and of course we had weekly gathering at my parents house with the Service Readings of Yogananda and short spells of meditation.
Mother Center kept in touch in these ways and continues to too this day.

I was there, in the auditoruim, with my tween sister! 1993, we were staying in Encinitas for the centenarium of mester, and came to LA to the meeting with her! A blessed day! She's in heaven, and sometimes I dream with her... Her voice will be allways with me, her sweetness! Love from Brazil!

I thought I was being coward behaving like an ostrich, not focusing in this turmoil world. Now I understand I am resting in God and Guru s lap and refusing to allow myself to to fall under the shadows of appocalipse. This peace and understanding is what we get with SRF pubications. Thanks

We are currently going through that dark cloud. Keep meditating and praying and visualizing the Light.
Yep basically! I had a dream about it as a teenager, the world was ending and everyone was panicking but all this monks and Saints around the world who just sat down and started meditating and they started growing into giants and everyone around started one by one sitting down and meditating and they started growing too at different rates and they all collectively made the earth grown 5 times in it's size and and then they stood up and bended the elements to "heal" the world and bring peace and harmony.
And we had entered a new era of peace and harmony.

You can feel Her Shakti emanating from the screen. Her words of wisdom vibrate with the consciousness of God. And through Her eyes, I see and feel such loving kindness. In fact, I see Gurudev through Ma’s eyes. What an incredible lineage of saints we come from in SRF/YSS. All glories to Gurudev!
Why Daya Mataji was the President of SRF for over fifty years. She is my Spiritual Mother. I grew up with her as my first Mataji. I knew when she passed over Master was calling her home. I knew Mirnalini Mata was going as soon as Daya left. They have always been connected together at their Heart centers. So beautiful to see!
I was there in 1993 and the dark cloud was already over the planet, now we do witness the final struggles of darkness - light is pouring in!!!!
How fortunate are SRF/YSS devotees to have had Daya Ma as their spiritual counsellor who was the reflection of our Divine Guru Paramahansa Yogananda. Her love for God has inspired and is inspiring all true devotees to make an extra effort in their own devotional practices. I miss Ma very much. I was first introduced to SRF when she was President and grew up with her as the leader of SRF. I sadly remember the day she passed on. She was surely self-realized. Thank you so much for posting these talks. I was there that evening.

What a timely message. I believe it was at that very convocation I received my initiation into Kriya Yoga. The Masters 100th birthday. I have often thought about Ma’s vision with realizations that she was speaking about the beginnings of these times, particularly.. I recall that it had such an impact on her. Thanks for sharing and enjoying this. A great saint without a doubt was Daya Maya. What I would have given to have her darshan and kneel down and kiss her feet. Tears came to my eyes at the end of the video. Blessed are those who were able to witness this divine soul in their physical form. She is my particular saint of the self realization fellowship, I have a lot of devotion to her, I hope that he will help me on my spiritual path through the difficulties of the years. I will never tire of praying to Daya Mata. I love her, despite never having met her.

I came across Paramahansa Yogananda's autobiography book with black and white photographs at an underground warehouse techno party in the bathroom hidden amongst the cupboards on 600 block of Broadway Ave, downtown San Diego. I was so happy as I first thought I had found my biological father. Obviously that was not the case, however over 20 years later Mukunda; Paramahansa Yogananda is still in my heart and in my experiences.💜

It is 2023 Convocation time. I found SRF in 1982 and was blessed to see Ma. I listen to this video often and would like to share - whenever I have gone down on my knees and prayed deeply, within that day my heart and mind have been calmed. It does not mean the problem has gone, but with the calmness an understanding of the situation has come allowing me to move forward with HIM in mind. It never fails how He answers our call. All we have to do is forget our ego and ASK. God love and bless you all. Have a blessed Convocation.
