  • Issaquah High School's Kathleen Myers firmly believes that financial literacy is a key skill for every student. "It's applied math," says Myers. "So they take the math that they've already learned and then they learn how to choose a credit card, how to buy a car, how to budget their money so that they can have more success in life by spending wisely."
For her semester final, Myers takes this philosophy quite literally. Working in small groups and then as a class, students use their math skills and financial know-how to unlock padlocks on smaller clue bags and a larger treasure chest.
"I have learned a lot of valuable lessons for life, especially now because I am working, I have a bank account, and I'm saving money to go to college and get a car," says Issaquah High Student Domenica Maquilon.
Throughout this month, we’ll feature CTE programs and the teachers behind them. Learn more about district CTE programs at www.isd411.org/cte.
