Wonderful work sir! I believe this is exactly what is going wrong with a vehicle I've been diagnosing at work for p0500, genuinely appreciate your excellent overviews of your diagnostic steps 👏🤘💚😀
Cody, I know this is an older post but I want to thank you for your clear explanation and diagnosing the code. I have a Lexus that throws the P0500 code (times three) and yet the car has been running fine for over a year. My speedometer operates fine. I am not a mechanic but wanted to see how big a problem this could be. I am now a subscriber! I hope you are liking the new company/shop.
Thanks for the kind words buddy. If your vehicle is only throwing the code every once in a while I may wait tell it’s more repetitive and then get it repaired, that’s if it was my car anyway

Hot damn, Cody is back with a nice screen overlay and some fancy edits! Great video, I love the process and you did an excellent job of explaining the process along the way! When you grabbed the signal at the ICM and it was GTG, I was thinking for sure you had a wire issue in the dash and it was about to get messy. It's always frustrating when you go to the next testing spot and it fixes itself because you're like "oh boy, is it going to be one of those where I can't recreate it or...?" I also like to see how other guy's approach it...l was thinking of doing a bypass test using a test light to B+ down to your piercing probe at the ECU with it disconnected and grounded to rule out wiring, but you were able to get it to act up again, then I'm like yup...no sense in wasting time on that approach since you got her to act up again! Crazy how your video made me think about it and keeps me guessing which way you're going to take it! Then seeing how everything changes when something happens like that. In either case, it's GREAT to see you are doing well at the new shop and have found a way to make some videos man! I really liked this one bro, fun stuff!

Swapped transmission in a 07 sienna. No speedo, P0500 and both abs and red brake lights on, no signal from either front brake. Swapped speed sensor A on transmission, still no speedo. 1abs speed sensor had a broken wire, the other side , cv axle wasn't seated in the spindle and reluctor wheel didn't line up with sensor. When I fixed the wheel speed sensor issue, speedometer worked.
Ah! Thanks. I have been using a toner/tracer to trace the wires out. I found the Red/Yellow wires for the VSS, and the toner led me to the park/Neutral Switch.
Great video Cody , people tend to disregard pin tension a lot . Always a plus when you can repair a part like a cluster as I'm sure it runs at least a few hundred plus programming .
Just has a pin fitment issue on a 08 Ford with the 6.4L , was setting a DTC for FRP sensor being erratic (P0194) . At first I used our Launch Torque to graph the FRP sensor PID. Nothing looked unusual except 1 random spike at about 2500 RPM that appeared every so many frame blocks. It would then reduce engine power until next key cycle and at 2500 RPM do it again . I couldn't call a Pump yet because I could command the FRP all the way up and down just off idle and it followed . So I knew something wasn't right and I was missing something .. So I tossed the Launch and grabbed the IDS.. And man what a difference does refresh rate make a big differences. With the IDS graphing the PID at that sweet spot of 2500 RPM you can see nothing but hash from the sensors offset of 1.5V to 5V like it was rapidly toggling the sensor Low Ref off and on a few hundred times a sec . Had on of the other guys pull the valve cover yesterday and they informed me when they looked at the connector it looks like the ground pin was a little spread like someone had a probe in it . I pulled the history and it was suped out to a local Diesel shop Nov of 2018 and they replaced supposedly the high pressure pump but who knows how they diagnoses it . I'm thing they shoved a Tpin or paper clip in there and it had just enough tension to hold up until now ... Weird .. But I learned a lesson and that's scope everything even a sensor that has PIDs.. And I learned the IDS has an insane refresh rate lol
You're awesome man! Used your video to start diagnostic tests with this code on my 06 tacoma. Lifted the truck and brought it to about 20mph on the speedometer but engine diagnostic showed 0. Will the Tacoma drive without the cluster?
Yes it will.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Thank you for the quick reply. I think my truck is in the same boat as the one in your video. It's my daily and I have no backup. Subbed for helpful answer!!
Nice job!
Thank you!
Thank you
Glad to see ya back on here! Nice video man, love my aeswave kit too!
Thanks brother!
So what was the conclusion here? Are we still waiting for an update? Can this problem cause emissions issues? I'm in California.
Earl Spencer sorry buddy but did you watch the video? I mentioned the cluster was at fault and also mention this will cause emissions issues, just like I mentioned in the video. I also mentioned the light being on was the reason they needed to get the light fixed.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Hello thank you for the time to comment. Yes I did see that the problem was behind the cluster but it wasn't clear whether the whole thing had to be replaced or was it just a connection?
Earl Spencer it needed a new cluster assembly
Hard call nice fix.
Thank you!
Man I’m not trying to be weird but where do you Live? I thought you were in AZ but it looks cold in your Video. I’m in Central Tx & it’s like 80 today. One of my Sons is a tech in Tucson
Ok you said later you’re in Tucson also
Haha sounds dumb but after being here 20 years after moving from Colorado I’ve got spoiled with warmer temps. This was filmed about a month ago and there was a cold front at them time, plus 6:30 in the morning doesn’t help. By 10 am it’s like 75 degrees 😂😂
Cody’s Auto Diagnostics man I grew up in Wisconsin. Did all the winter Crap. Even camping outside in the winter making our shelters. I’ve been in Texas over 30 yrs I don’t do cold either. But I don’t even own a coat. If it’s that cold I’ll stay in. Close my bay doors & fire up my heater?
Ken Schmidt haha I hear ya buddy, only problem is here we have to keep our doors open and the way the shop is designed we get crazy cross winds.
Thank you for this video, Cody. Saved my ass. Had one come in just like this, 2005 Tacoma prerunner 4.0l.
However both pro demand and all data show incorrect wiring diagrams for me. They indicate a speed sensor on the rear diff…
Hi, I have a similar issue with my 08 Camry. My speedometer is working fine, all ABS wheel Speed Sensor including engine speed are working fine. But I’m still getting a check engine light on with the code P0500. I also changed my cluster and still having the issue.
Any idea or tight on what I can do?
Thanks
Possible wiring issue.
Not to sound ignorant, but wha t is a drag test?
Drag test is testing the pin fitment in the connector.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Thanks!
what was the solution?
You obviously didn’t watch the video since it explains everything.
