- In todays video I'll do a full breakdown of the VTOL Jet Killstreak in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Inspired by its real world counterpart the Harrier Jump Jet, the VTOL is a powerful and popular scorestreak which first delivers an explosive payload and then patrols a designated area with its rotary canon. The VTOL's ability to deal high damage and lock down areas of the map, make it one of the best Kill Streaks in MW2.
Today I'll break down all of the details, explaining exactly how the VTOL works. We'll discuss its basic operating characteristics, it's damage and effective range, how to use it more effectively to get more kills, as well as how to counter the VTOL. Helping you decide if the VTOL Jet belongs in your favorite class loadout.

For even more style points: destroying VTOLs with the cruise missile
I use strong arm as it shows the path and increases range. Shock sticks and thermites take the VTOL down quick. It’s also fun to see them stick to it. Also use the perk that gives you 2 shock sticks.

That was one thing the harrier had going for it in the original MW2. It would destroy other air streaks.

Repositioning the VTOL is almost a guaranteed kill. I’ll do it 5-6 times. I usually get 8-10 kills each time I earn one. I actually like it more than the chopper gunner. I can get kills while it’s doing it’s works.

VTOLs feel right as an ambitious killstreak player's 2nd streak. A VTOL doesn't stick with you like the Overwatch heli so it can cover an area without it stealing kill from you. I personally pick Wheelson as my final streak because it's alot harder to take down and I don't need to worry about my death as i've already gotten my 3 streaks.

FMJ armor piercing rounds attachment is available for most weapon classes, like the description says, high vehicle damage.
It is an attachment worthy of a gunsmith slot.
I'm always surprised when people don't know you can run with with your vtol. I always run.. it can double your kills.
With your take on the VTOL, I believe that the VTOL should not be controllable, as that could possibly rend the chopper gunner elite. However, I think that you should have the option to automate or control the escort helo OR chopper gunner.

For the Harrier i prefer AI targeting since it's tradition at this point

I just called in four in a row on shipment. Ended the game with 80+ kills. It’s the best streak by far. I really wish the sentry turret was better or useful.

I can’t believe that going from mw2019 to mw2, that they moved the wheelson to a higher streak (which was barely used) to compete with the vtol

I wish the VTOL could go after air killstreaks like uav and stuff. There were some unused voicelines of the VTOL pilot back in MW2019 that talked about getting into dogfights with other aircraft.It would've been nice to have something that can just delete the UAV without having to carry a guided missile as a secondary
If the vtol could take out other air killstreaks like it did in og MW2, then it would be overpowered and everyone would run the streak (although most people do already, which shows it's present popularity). I think the capabilities as it is now are plenty enough
What we need is air patrol from Cold War.
They shouldve called it the harrier like in the OG MW2
@VirtuasRedem It's a licensing issue. It's not that they can't, they just don't want to pay for the use. This game has already had problems with maps for that reason.
VTOL can also kill players when it crashes, it happened to me several times in Shoot house.
Yup the range on the VTOL crashing is larger than it's bombing run kill range

the vtol looks weird... when playng normally it looks like a harrier but its actually a harrier and jaguar hybrid. interesting
Yup, for it's day the Harrier was an insane level of technology. It didn't perform very well in the Falklands though and took heavy losses. I sat in one in a museum in Arizona. It was way bigger than I was expecting, also saw the Blackbird and it's gigantic.
Should also mention that the cruise missile and Gunship are awesome ways to destroy VTOLs; the former is great since it’s a relatively cheap streak to earn, especially while running Hardline
Time the launch right, you can blow it up instantly before it starts shooting
Yes I had some footage of destroying the VTOL with my gunship, but it's not really a viable strategy since it's so hard to earn. But the cruise missile... yes that's a pretty good solution!
Tbh, I rather go with the overwatch helo.
It has constant maneuverability and can attack while on the move.
It also has the addition to give last known enemy position pings shown to you and all your teammates. Much like the live pings players can use if they have a direct line of sight.
Same ability for flares. I’m not sure what the attack range is but I’d image it’s similar to the VTOL.
The only thing it lacks is the initial lethal bombing on entry. It depends on what you want to go for. More lethality, or more intel.
I like knowing where enemies are hiding when they are trying to avoid it so the players are at a disadvantage either way.
It’s also going for the same price for kills/score so it’s an amazing alternative.

Aerial streaks are so easy to shoot down, makes it kinda stupid in the end

Manual control is fun. Would also allow you to attack other airborne streaks since they don't do this automatically. I remember they did before. Why'd they take that feature out?
I think streaks attacking each other is more of a Treyarch thing. I don't think Infinity Ward has ever done that.

I dont use the vtol since it is easily destroyed or countered by getting into cover. I prefer the AI controlled streaks. I have an anti air loadout I switch too when I hear it called in and take it out as it settles in. I didn't know about marking it to stay out of range.

The best version of the vtol was in BO2, manually controlled it would routinely get 15+ kills, I miss those OG streaks!

Question: is the 75m attack zone based on slant range to the VTOL, or is 75 meters the diameter of the circle on the ground where you are vulnerable to attack? Because if it's the latter, then marking the VTOL at 75m would have you within the kill radius.
Slant range, it works out to about 69 meters along the ground.

SO14 with a drum mag, full auto selected, and incendiary rounds swats it and all other combat air craft out of the sky in less than 50 rounds of ammo. I think it is hilarious to insta-kill VTOL and chopper gunners lol. I actually quit running the combat aircraft because of this and stick with mortars and clustermines. I get so many kills off of those two things. Plus it's just cool calling in a mortar strike!
The odds somebody will actually have AND use that setup is extremely low. Added with the possibility that a chopper gunner user has a brain in their head... switching from that to mortars an clusters is R*tarded
for 2 more kills you can pull out a chopper gunner, more air time, rockets that will poke through windows, and isn’t hard countered by cold blooded 🤷♂️
Yup Chopper Gunner is strong too, but for some reason, at least in my lobbies nobody shoots down my VTOLs. They put in serious work, I'd say 6-8 kills on average. At a cost of only 8 kills it's a pretty good value.
The difference between getting 8 kills and 10 kills in a game with SBMM is a large gap. VTOL also allows another player to be on the ground playing the objective

Chopper or gunship over VTOL
I dont like this streak, its so easy to destroy, i always destroy enemy vtols with LMG+Incendiay ammo 😼 Cold War Vtol way better than this one 😄 Thank you Favstar 🤗
The most annoying but most easy to take down streak ever.
Yeah easy to take down even with an assault rifle yet no one ever does it. At least not in many of the matches I've played.
I personally prefer the overwatch helo as it pings emenies for my team

Weakest Killstreak by far whenever I hear one up I switch to my Caution Tape - RPK and its down in less than one extended drum mag.... If im accurate enough its dead before its fired a shot.
But in order to switch and destroy the VTOL you need to die twice. Once to switch to your anti-streak build, and then once to switch back. So it's essentially responsible for at least 2 kills for each player that does this, plus all the kills it gets in between. I would say it averages 6-8 kills, which is crazy strong compared to the other streaks.
@@FavstaRGaming Not necessarily. The explosion is very weak and it takes ages to start firing after so you can switch your loadout Inbetween and get yourself killed before

Explaining how to get a kill streak is far too simplistic, do I also need to explain how to start the game? C'mon bro! Google the simple stuff and watch a video for the in-depth details.

I have even asked in multiple lobbies and out of dozens of other players no one, with a mic, or willing to share, will say. @@K162KingPin sorry if it sounded like an insult that wasn’t the intent. Here’s a proper response… select the VTOL as a killstreak selection in your loadout, then get 8 kills without dying. Call in the streak and enjoy some free kills!
