@Gabriel Morath I watched the same documentary.. It was by Patagonia. I found it to be a load of garbage. People want to solve a real problem they need to go after commercial fishing. Want fish back in your rivers start going after those who drag giant nets in the ocean. Commercial fishing isn't sustainable and as soon as people figure this out and stop it the soon fish populations will rebound. Now we have to worry about China and the distant fleets fishing all over the world. People need to speak up and show your disgust for these unsustainable practices.
What Cameron was saying why don't we make a petition to the state to bring those holding tanks on every river that has steelhead to help our hatchery programs.
After seeing that video, I have a new hope. A hope for my boys and someday my grandkids will one day have the opportunity to experience the magic that comes from hooking into a steelhead. It’s impossible to put a dollar value on it, and yet, somehow they do. Thanks guys, thank you very much.
We need these programs on our Puget Sound rivers. Imagine how much pressure it would take off all the open rivers if the other "S" rivers were open again.
You guys are studs for this one! Its pretty basic math, its a shame how managers have ruined allot of what we have here, but the future is bright with what you guys are instilling in the fishing community, thanks!
Back in the 80’s the Yakima River had a bunch of steelhead. I was small and watched my dad hook a lot. I want a program like this to bring steelies back to my area. Great video guys
Ya'll kick ass! What an amazing, well-rounded operation Addicted has become. Yet to find an episode/tutorial I haven't enjoyed. Also, appreciate you guys putting me on some trout here in GA and some Salmon/Steelhead, in MI, for our yearly boys trip.
That netting at the beginning was so intense, you guys have been pumping out awesome content lately. Jordan's PB Steelhead was one of my favorite Addicted vids ever.
These programs need expansion and support here in the Pacific Northwest. Especially Washington. Gotta get everyone on board to make this a reality. It can be done, steelhead fisheries can come bouncing back with good ocean conditions and good management
We have currently almost zero hatchery programs up here on the Olympic Pennisula and its just sad to watch this all fall apart due to either lack of funding or mismanagement. There are some really fun rivers and we cant even wet a line in them. Thank you guys for all you do and provide for us anglers out there.
Missed the Steelhead season this year, but it was too welcome a new daughter into the world, so it's worth it. In the meantime living vicariously through you guys!
Probably my favorite video so far! Thank you for the information and education on this incredible program. You are 100% right they should have them on every river! I just donated to the program on the website you provided and bought a sticker for my truck. I encourage other viewers to do the same!
I live in Clark County Washington growing up between the East and North forks of the Lewis river. While the North Fork still has decent returns the East Fork is decimated. We need hatcheries together with habitat restoration.
@@AddictedFishing We used to have native runs up most of the creeks around LaCenter.Brezee creek,Jenny creek,Lockwood creek. The fish would stack up at the culvert at LaCenter school and we would go down and catch them with our bare hands.I wish the Cowlitz tribe would put a salmon/steelhead hatchery on the East Fork. The native people seem to do a better job than WDFW.Do any of you guys guide fish?If so what's your contact info?
Hell yeah! Love the broodstock programs. Thanks for doing this guys! I would love to help out with it. I guess I almost crossed paths with Nick on the Wilson not too long ago according to other boaters.
Thank you guys for your work keeping this awesome species healthy for the future! I grew up in Sonoma California and used to catch them when they ran up the small local creek. What a blast. I really miss it. Nothing like catching 15 lb. Steelhead in a small fast moving creek!! Best fight ever!! Thanks again..
Love the efforts from the addicted crew I have come to appreciate the fish more when releasing more of them back into the river!!! YLTSI!!! Yeeeeewwww!!!
Every river needs broodstock program! We started the tubes in Idaho and IDFG has been all over the rivers grabbing them and transporting to hatcheries! Keep up the content. Stay fishy!!
Well done guys, you crushed it. I'm a firm believer in the hatchery programs. We use them here in Southern Ontario and it's run by the MNR, but unfortunately they don't stock that many rivers. Our steelhead and salmon populations are on the decline and they need to step up their game. They should be watching and learning from you guys.
Addicted should make a smaller net for trout... Like a normal hoop net, but the net is in a V shape, as in the steelhead landing nets, so then it cratles the fish
In 1877 Columbia River cannery operators, worried about the decline of the prized spring Chinook runs, organized the Oregon & Washington Fish Propagation Company, raised $21,000 in donations, and built a salmon hatchery on the Clackamas River. It was the first hatchery in the Columbia River Basin. The facility was operated by the U.S. Fish Commission and only partially funded by the cannery operators. Other contributors included the state of Washington. The facility operated until 1881 and then closed, apparently for lack of funding (The state of Oregon reopened it in 1888, then turned its operation over to the U.S. Fish Commission again in 1889) in case you were wondering Cam...
Another benefit to the brood stock programs is that by removing those fish for the program you actually increase the viability fish spawning in the river by reducing competition for prime spawning beds.
As someone who lives in Grays Harbor county, this is both awesome to see and disheartening. I feel like all the effort for something like this is falling on deaf ears at the local and state level. It would not be hard to put these on our rivers. I haven't been able to fish steelhead pretty much all of march on anything remotely "Local". I just don't understand the "wild" fish groups that have beef with broodstocking. They really think that the only option is the nuclear option of "close all hatcheries, stop all fishing and no more new buildings/industry". Those birds flew the nest a LONG time ago. It's time to broodstock the Grays Harbor, OlyPen and all washington rivers. Even IF it didnt help, it cant hurt? We've tried everything else.
Absolutely love this episode and thanks guys for contributing your efforts to my favorite coastal river. East Fork Lewis is now wild fish only. It seems like a good to live broodstock some of those wildies into some nearby streams like the Kalama, NF Lewis, Coweeman, others? The genetics can't be that different and it would sure be good to spread out some solid catchable returns. IMHO
I just read an article on steelhead fishing in the great lake states.I appears that they have created a great fishery over there using genetics from the Washougal river.
@@MINITMANRADIONETWORK Yep. Skamania strain stock I think. Chinook and possibly coho salmon from the PNW were also used to create excellent fisheries in the Great Lakes. They had a big overpopulation problem with alewives. Great food for salmon.
Love the vid guys! Made me look into the program and whatnot...on a side note what kind of rubber gloves do you guys use? Iv been using the cheap ones but I go through a pair every 10 min it seems like.
@@georgeallen-griffin3628 I’m a golfer to and when I see a pro shank it dead left, I feel better about my miscues. They’re human yes but I guarantee you they put a heck of a lot more fish in their boat than I have for salmon and steelhead. They guide and catch fish well, they’re pros.
I fish 4 rivers in Oregon with Broodstock programs. And this year they all failed to have much of any returning fish. Not the program the fish disappeared in the ocean.
A lot of the scents and baits we use will stain your hands so some people especially those who fish a lot use them to save their skin and hands. They also keep your hands semi dry so they don’t get as numb.
Imo we quit a March fisheries and we get the native fishery to quit early spring salmon netting so those native steelhead can return the ocean without being accidentally netted but that’s for the pnw fish in Washington and I think we would see amazing returns in three years but must be a collaborative approach with wdfw fisheries and native fisheries to agree to do that otherwise it will be depleted
I'm curious what are the benefits of wearing surgical gloves? Scent? I thought it might be to keep your hands dry and thus warmer, but I started sweating and got cold right away. Keep up the great content. I love the videos, channel and webstore.
