Watching Kep leave the cage and do a confident lap around the house on his own was like watching an action movie hero walk away from an explosion, it’s just that Kep’s explosion was heart failure.
We usually tell owners to monitor the respiratory frequency when the pet is sleeping, usually cats stay around 12-20 breaths per minute, 30 means you need to closely monitor the pet and 40 means call your emergency vet immediately
It warms my heart to hear that the staff at the emergency vet were so nice, so informative, very obviously passionate, and helpful. It just sounds to me like they really go out of their way to make things easier for people whose pets are there and that just makes me really emotional. A+. I'd give them five stars on Google Maps and I've never even been. Continuing to virtually send the biggest hugs for all three of you. ❤
A piece of advice i have for anyone taking their pet for, well, their “final visit” so to speak, is to bring something that the animal loves-like a pillow or blanket that they always sleep on. It lets them have something comfortable that smells like home. Worst case scenario, the vet tells you you can’t have it and you leave it in the car. I remembered at the last minute before we left for the vet with our boy to bring my fluffy blanket he always stole from me and i take comfort in remembering him laying down on his favorite warm fluffy blankee and not some old scratchy towel. Having a cat that needs a ton of special care will be pretty stressful. Our boy needed to visit the vet regularly for checkups and a ton of medication that we had to fight him to take. Not to mention, he needed us to give him an iv drip nightly (which is possible to do as a pet owner, but i was very squeamish about). In the end, he managed to make it an entire year after he started needing care. It was not easy, but it was worth it. At first when he was gone, there was a guilty feeling-like we hadn’t done ENOUGH to keep him with us. It became easier to process the loss when i told myself that he wasn’t gonna make it past a month. Our hard work to keep him around rewarded us an entire year that wasn’t supposed to exist. It had to end eventually, but that extra time was a gift. So yeah, taking care of kepp is gonna be difficult and probably stressful (and definitely expensive 💀) but so long as he’s still here he is a gift.
i cried so much for you kep and mal yesterday.. i knew kep was doing better but it still got to me so badly because i know you view your cats as your children more or less.
This saga will end when mal sees keppy (honestly when i saw the "heat failure" video i started to have thoughts on what if i have to say goodbye to my own cat. It's really important we give all the love to our little fur babies, i was glad to see keppy back home with you Stephen in the vlog
Echoing what I've seen many others say, that I don't watch every vlog anymore, but I always check in when I see a title that concerns me. So glad Keppy is doing better!
When I saw “heart failure”, I definitely braced for the worst but I’m very relieved that he’s home and based on the last Breakfast stream Vod, Mal gets to see Keppo after all that tension. Hopefully he stays around for as long as possible. 🧡 good vibes
That happy little confident lap around the house means SO much when it comes to recovery for cats. It's good that he's eating, its good that he has energy and WANTS to do things. I always worry about our boys, there isn't an emergency vet in the immediate area, the closest one is a good 40-60 minute drive away. . .and things like this can happen out of nowhere and go downhill so quickly.
Welcome back home, Keppy. Such an incredible relief to see you back. There's uncertainty in the future, but we're all rooting for you. Wishing you, Stephen, and Mal the best of vibes, Keppy.
Lance Lance was all up in my space when I was watching the heart failure video, he was loving on the screen. He knew you and Keppy needed the love and support, since he is such a loving boi. So glad Keppo is home, your boy is home now. Tearing up rn. Imma hug my cute little fuzzball extra tight tonight.
I love that that nurse came to talk to you about Keppy, and that the lady at the pharmacy asked for cat tax. The boy's cuteness must be shared with the world!
I’m so glad he ok your vlogs go me thought when my dog got shot in the head. He lived and has health problems now but I’m so glad he ok and get to come home
my dad's cat had some medical issues around the same time kep just did, had a growth in his leg that had to be removed and was thankfully able to, hes had to be relocated to a dog cage to stop him from climbing and getting into play fights, wishing kep can keep his good recovery and you can still have a lot of time with him happily
Things have changed but your baby is home and for now that's the most important thing, so glad to see him doing well and give him plenty of cuddles from everyone 🐈❤🩹
I know from yesterday’s IG picture that he is home but when you said he was home I still cheered!! Can’t wait until the whole Georg family is back together ❤
A couple years ago my dog had to go to the emergency vet while I was away from home. It ended up being a little over $5,000. It’s so sad but at some point I had to decide if I was okay to spend that much and possibly more. I’m glad I did because he’s still here today and doing well. He’s the best! ❤❤❤ Glad to hear Kepler is coming home!!!
I can't even begin to imagine how you and Mal were feeling during all of this, especially being away from each other. Glad the little guy is doing well
Last year, my one cat needed a surgery to remove two sets of salivary glands because they did not form correctly or somehow got damaged. That was 4k (Canadian) because he had to go to a specialty vet hospital. He ended up getting an infection internally and spending 5 days in their ICU. That was another 8k. A lot of people I work with couldn't understand why I'd shell out my savings like that, but the little guy is my baby. Happy to say he's healthy and trying to catch a bug. I understand completely doing anything possible for Kepler.
I'm so glad Kep is safe and sound at home, I was really worried for the little guy. I know how heartbreaking it is when a pet is going through an illness and you have no idea if they're going to be okay.
I may not watch the vlog as often these days but I am so glad to hear Kepler is doing better and I hope for the best for him and am so glad he has such amazing kitty parents to take care of him in his time of need. I know you guys will be able to do the best for him.
I'm glad he's home, I hope little Keppy keeps fighting and pulls through for as long as he can. He's such a cutie and a fighter. I'm sure things are tough, i just hope you remember how many are here for you guys. You're not alone, many others I'm sure have been through this, and I have a similar story myself that I will document in case someday it helps you or another reader to know you're not alone. I lost my 16 year old kitty Mitzi from double heart failure due to her thyroid suddenly getting worse. Her breathing had gotten worse like Kepler's and I was worried but thought we'd just bring it up at her next vet appointment (big mistake I know). One night she threw up, and immediately after she stumbled over and was wheezing. I laid with her fearing I was going to lose her at that moment. We don't have an emergency vet nearby, but the following morning we took her to her vet for an emergency appointment. That's how we found out her thyroid got suddenly dramatically worse and she was in double heart failure. They told us if we could get her to eat then she could take a new medicine to see if it helps, but that the chances were not high as she was so old and her heart was in such a fragile state. They told us euthanasia might be our best option but we just couldn't do it. It was so bad we couldn't even have her take an oral pill as the strain of doing that and the fear that comes with that can cause her to have a heart attack in our arms. So the only hope was the food, but that ride to the vet took it all out of her. She spent her last two days laying with us only wanting pets and to be with us, but we couldn't get her to eat. We knew that she knew she was too tired to keep fighting. We called the vet back, we went back to the vet. Carrying back her blanket and empty carrier through the vet office was one of the most traumatic feelings. I'm glad you got Keppy to a vet as soon as you noticed the problem, every second counts. Not only for their heart, but for yours too. I had my Mitzi for 14 years (we adopted her at 2) but it still felt like it was too short. Much love to you guys, my prayers are with Keppy. You guys are great cat parents and again I'm so happy Keppy is doing a little better, I hope it has continued and will continue.
Welcome home Kep! So glad to actually see him come home, even though I knew he did, this has got me really thinking about our own cat now which is not a bad thing.
I had to take my puppy to the emergency vet in March. When the vet was talking about possible treatments she really was like talking about how "we could do this. It's less but cheaper". Then she told me the full suite of tests would be $800 CAD. I almost laughed out loud. I was expecting triple that at least. Thankfully she didn't need to be admitted to the hospital which is certainly why the cost didn't hit 4 digits but yeah $300 usd being expensive... Like for many people yes but also vet care can go way way higher than that.
"Kepler could come home as early as tonight" (looks at title) Oh ye, that cat's not coming off grandpa's lap tonight. Gonna get so much pets. I'm glad Kepler's home! You're a stronger man than me, Stephen, I don't know if my heart could handle my partner being away AND a life-or-death emergency of a beloved pet at the same time.
Me and my sister owned a pomeranian who suffered a heart murmur, there were quite a bit of meds, she lasted a couple years but sadly passed away last year while we were living in an RV waiting for our house to be repaired from a house fire in Dec 2022. Stay strong Stephen & Mal♥
The discussion of cost reminds me of when I had to take my dog to the emergency vet in December. The nurse gives us a break down of the expected cost and expected treatment (he was there for nearly four days) and then asks us if we want to proceed. Solemnly my mom just replies, “I don’t see that we have a choice” and the nurse just nodded. It was a crazy amount of money but I’d do it again to make sure my dog was well.
I really shouldn't watch these vlogs at work; i'm tearing up at my desk. For your guys sake and generally, i'm glad that you have a little bit more time , because it's a hard thing to deal with when it shows up unexpectedly. Even a little bit of time can help you prepare
I'm glad you were able to bring him back home after all that! Have you considered getting some of those plug-in pheromone emitters? That could help keep his stress levels down since that's really important going forward.
Maybe this is too anthropomorphizing of me, but I feel like Kepler, in his own quiet way, pulled through and came home as a way of helping you heal from the trauma you went through with Sagan. Glad you're home, Keppy. ❤️
So a question for you Stephen: Now that you're (hopefully) past the most scary part of all this, what's it like going back to this footage and seeing your past self go through this?
I'm pretty sure Stephen said in a q&a vlog a little while back that because Kepler needs to keep his nerves down and not be frightened a lot (as evidenced by this), that they wouldn't be getting another cat for as long as he's still around. But I always wondered myself what they were going to do when Kepler eventually does pass. How long would they wait if they were going to get another cat is a good question. It would definitely be sad though considering at least one of Sagan and Kepler has been around since 2012 meaning they've been pretty much a main part of the vlog for so long. But, for now its good Kepler's home and has some more time left
I think Dad, Mom, and Kep Kep being so separated was the worst part in all of this. Can not wait to see you all together again.
Watching Kep leave the cage and do a confident lap around the house on his own was like watching an action movie hero walk away from an explosion, it’s just that Kep’s explosion was heart failure.
He’s gotta do his little patrol and make sure everything’s OK before he settles in. ^_^
The little pitter patter of his feet on the floor 🥺 all the good vibes for Keppy
We usually tell owners to monitor the respiratory frequency when the pet is sleeping, usually cats stay around 12-20 breaths per minute, 30 means you need to closely monitor the pet and 40 means call your emergency vet immediately

Welcome home Keppy. ❤ Administer all the pets, pls and thanks. Good job to the vet for their detailed care

Oh thank god!! I was so scared we were going to lose Keppy!! 😭
20:43 "Avid drinker". The stress we're going through hoping he survives is going to chase to the bottle ourselves.
So glad Keppy is home! Sending love from my little Astrono-cat Hubble and I
The loud purrs at the end got to me. ;.; he's okay!
Welcome home Keppy! Shout out to the vet for taking good care of him.
Good to hear that Keppy is home again. Take care of that little treasure and value him for all the time you have!
Yeah, the nurses at the emergency very probably don't see a lot of happy endings. Glad to hear things are going as well as they can.
Man keppy fighting the drugs to get some water
He's on some good stuff
So glad he's home
The little plaps of his paws on the wooden floors is so cute
I love that that nurse came to talk to you about Keppy, and that the lady at the pharmacy asked for cat tax. The boy's cuteness must be shared with the world!
It's so good hearing the relief in your voice in this vlog. I'm glad Keppy is doing okay. ❤
Welcome Home Keppy!
Tears when you showed him in the kennel!! Welcome home, sweet Kepler! All the love to all three of you!
I’m so glad he ok your vlogs go me thought when my dog got shot in the head. He lived and has health problems now but I’m so glad he ok and get to come home
What?!?!? How did that happen
Also happy to hear he made it and is still with you

In times like this I’m so glad you have the Raleigh Collective (the siblings you never had) especially Alex and Hayley 🤗
I can't say how much I love this cat. You gonna be alright, Kepler.
I know from yesterday’s IG picture that he is home but when you said he was home I still cheered!! Can’t wait until the whole Georg family is back together ❤
I've been keeping it together so far, but I did start tearing up when you said "Yeah, and he's *alive*!" during the pharmacist story.
Watching this, I'm just glad you both get that additional time with him - vets sound like the exact people you want doing the care in this situation
You can see how loved Kep is! Bless you Stephen and Mal!
All the good vibes to you both with all of that!

I’m so glad that Keppy is home ❤ he has the best parents in the world in you and Mal. I wish the best for y’all. Kepler is a sweetheart and a treasure
I'm really glad to see he's doing better. I saw the the vlog for 4/2 yesterday and it definitely pulled on my heartstrings as a cat owner.❤
This is all just a feel good vlog with the nurse and the pharmacist omh. The big drugged Keppy eyes make me so happy
Glad to see Kepler back home and that he's recovering. Hope everything continues to improve.
The bestest of vibes to all of you, so glad keppy is home
Much love to Keppy! He's a special little kitty in so many ways.

I have never felt such dread as the last two days. But I'm 99% sure Sagan didn't let Kep pass.
welcome home Keppy!
This vlog was a huge relief to see!
tearing up with happy tears from all of this. much love to all of you, kepler especially. 💚💙💚💙💚
9:27 thank you Louis
Glad to see our little man home ❤️
Welcome home Keppy!
These things always hurt so much. We lost our two dogs early this year. Really happy for both you that Kep is going to be okay
Poor little guy we all missed you Keppo ❤

It's funny cuz I was just watching the one for 4.3 and this came out. Edit: Hooray for Kep!!!

I just saw the title of this after finishing the April 2nd video and was like “Watch. Now.”
Are fuzzy kids are worth every penny, dollar, and drop of blood we can give for them. You and Mal, and Kep stay strong and happy.
Lots of Keppy lap time and lovins in coming.
Maybe this is too anthropomorphizing of me, but I feel like Kepler, in his own quiet way, pulled through and came home as a way of helping you heal from the trauma you went through with Sagan. Glad you're home, Keppy. ❤️
welcome back buddy :)
I am so relieved that he's OK. Man, he has a motor lol
Jesus the engine sounds on the cat!!
i hope hes okay
Meow this is what I like to see
❤
So a question for you Stephen: Now that you're (hopefully) past the most scary part of all this, what's it like going back to this footage and seeing your past self go through this?
tense neck algorithm comment
welcome home lil buddy
Hey Stephen, is there anyway we can help if we want? Like a gofundme or anything?
he's got a patreon!! that's probably the best way we can financially support them, as well as twitch subs
hi Stephen
I understand it's a bit early to ask this. Would you ever get another cat in the future? Perhaps 5 or even 10 years from now?
I'm pretty sure Stephen said in a q&a vlog a little while back that because Kepler needs to keep his nerves down and not be frightened a lot (as evidenced by this), that they wouldn't be getting another cat for as long as he's still around. But I always wondered myself what they were going to do when Kepler eventually does pass. How long would they wait if they were going to get another cat is a good question. It would definitely be sad though considering at least one of Sagan and Kepler has been around since 2012 meaning they've been pretty much a main part of the vlog for so long.
