- Casa da Música is the first building built in Portugal dedicated exclusively to public performances of different types of music, as well as rehearsal spaces for orchestras and other resident and visiting groups.
Its construction was linked to Porto's application as European Capital of Culture in 1997 and its construction was announced in 1998. The tendering procedure for the project was too short, reducing the participation of 7 to 3 architects. In July 1999, the project of Rem Koolhaas was accepted and the project was delivered in December. In April 2005 the inaugural concert is given. This building does not leave anyone indifferent, all the solutions used here are out of the ordinary, and its architecture is already an experience in itself, being an adventure for our senses to go through, the various interior spaces, and observe them also from the outside. I consider your visit obligatory.

I learned a long time ago that the building envelope may not express the dramatic architectural spaces hidden inside one of Koolhaas' creations. That happened when I walked inside the Seattle Central Library and spent many hours marveling at the phenomenological wonderland that came from Rem's creative mind. It was a shattering realization for me that architecture could defy all conventional logic. This Casa da Musica is another example. I now resolve to make a pilgrimage to Porto to see it.

Extremamente mal projectado em termos de apoio técnico para qualquer espetáculo. O elevador técnico é muito mais pequeno que o do IKEA...E isto é só um pequeno exemplo...
