The oldest known flush toilet dates back to stone age Britain, and indoor plumbing was common in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. The eastern half of the Roman Empire didn't collapse until the 1400's, only a couple decades before Columbus set sail on the Santa Maria. The Renaissance, when Europe began rebuilding what it had in the Roman Empire, began in 1300, nearly two centuries before Columbus' voyage to America. So, yeah, we had indoor plumbing in a LOT of places when the Santa Maria set sail. Ships, of course, generally just used chamber pots or buckets. We didn't invented flushing toilets on ships until the 1800's (the Civil War-era Monitor had one), and they were generally very complicated due to issues involving water pressure and opening and closing valves in the right sequence; a German WW2 U-Boat sank because a sailor screwed up while flushing the toilet, and British submarines of the same era forbid sailors from using the toilets and instead forced them to hang their butts over the side and poop directly into the ocean while surfaced at night, because the system was so complicated it took an engineer to flush the toilet and not sink the submarine.

Wow. Bennet hates all the anime I grew up with back in the day..."Harlock Saga" a re-telling of an old legend in a space opera setting, featuring Leji's classic hero...IT SUCKS. "Galaxy Express 999" beautiful, sad, and a wonderful metaphor for growing up, finding out what you want my not be right....IT SUCKS. "Venus Wars" a fun movie about war, youth, and loss....IT SUCKS. Bennet no doubt hates "Kiki's Delivery Service" because it's popular, or he hates Miyazaki because "reasons".

    • @gantzisballs
      @gantzisballs 2 роки тому +2

Harlock Saga is based on Wagner's Ring Cycle, which is awesome if you're into opera. However, many of the opera fanatics will be disappointed the soundtrack had far more Kaoru Wada than Wagner...in a Wagner adaptation. Most people just found it really boring. Galaxy Express 999 the show is spectacular, but the movie is a pretty condensed adaptation. Venus Wars has some positives, but Bennett is far from the only person to have issues with it. Basically, I don't think you can say Bennett is THAT negative based on those few reviews. Not to mention that sometimes other folks won't enjoy the same anime you do. My favorite anime is freaking Elfen Lied, but I can't get mad at every critic who doesn't love it in the way I do.

Mr. Sage? Have you ever considered a guest spot on a certain blue skeleton's series that talks about the behind the scenes stories of media both good and bad? Your ability of going into detail about the behind the scenes of some anime like this... Ooh... it is something!
Also, it's only been a month since I last heard of that Yumi Adachi Dinosaur movie on Lupa's channel and now I hear YOU mention it? Man... I really gotta see that flick.

As a fan of Prog-rock the part with Keith Emerson was kinda sad. The video was heavily entertaining though.
And if Prog-rock really lit the anime scene then hair metal really set it on fire! XD

A few years ago I thought I had watched everything I possibly could from the '80s and '90s that was either dubbed or subtitled into English... But then I found a rather peculiar torrent with some titles I didn't recognize. This anime was one of them.
I watched through the entire thing and I barely remember any of it except at the end when the girl with the Yu-Gi-OH! hair was floating in space.
I get the feeling I'm definitely gonna remember all the crazy things Haruki Kadokawa did, though.

It was probably also a pass-up in the US becase the title is Harmageden and it's not a comedy.

I loved this video from start to finish. I'd heard of Genma Wars (referring to the anime and not the manga) and the less-than-stellar reputation surrounding it, but I had no idea it came from such an insane point of origin. Everything from the odd, borderline nonsensical plot to the rich, crazy man determined to bring the film to life makes this the perfect subject for a video.
You've really done your research, as always. Thanks for giving me something special to enjoy while I recover from the trauma of my last month at my job. Lastly, congratulations on getting married. Hopefully you won't need to perform CPR on your spouse any time soon

That live action Japanese Movie looks like it is about Hideyoshi Toiyotomi.
I think I remember seeing that style of helmet before and instantly think of him, or am I getting him confused with Ieyatsu Takogawa?

This was fascinating. I've enjoyed these more in-depth looks behind the production, the times, and history of these. I feel like I gain a great appreciation of the medium. Even if only a fraction of his insanity is true. It's honestly hilarious. Sometimes it takes a crazy person to help revitalize the film industry.
For how crazy he was, he was doing something right.

DATED is meaningless. ALL works are products of their time. Even the timeless ones, like 2001, are "dated". You can see the cut of the suits and the haircuts and other details are typical of the 1960s, and that makes literally no difference to the movie. I can't understand this concept of "dated". How could the movie people have come up with music that's not from their time, unless, like Excalibur, when went to the past and found the perfect music? They literally cannot go to the future for that.

    • @Genevieve1023

"Dated" means it didn't age well. "Timeless" means it did. It's that simple.

@@Genevieve1023I don't think so. What do you mean by "not aged well"? Is it that it doesn't look good from current film quality standards? That's literally impossible, as it's not been made today.

Haruki Kadokawa being inspired/admiring Hitler and the Germans is insane until you realize the WW2 japanese dogma and the axis as a whole was filled with narcissistical sociopathy that led to Japan doing literally some of the most inhumane shit in history...and everytime evidence has come out about that period that forces Japan to make a public apology...theres always guys like Kadokawa and Shinzo Abe to claim Japan never needs to apologize for anything.

Dhhh correction man, sorry but Oromo was not just another manga artist? Doumu is widely regarded in Japan as the single most important work by most mangaka. Doumu has the largest citations in the manga industry as peoples favorite work, NOT Akira. IN FACT Doumu was so well received he was a total star well before akira began and it’s why he was given the space he needed to make the masterpiece. He was already top 10

The Romanian monarchy was indeed abolished in 1947 and yes they did have most of Transylvania within their borders since 1918, but the last time Transylvania was an independent entity with a monarchic system of government was as the Grand Principality of Transylvania that was then subsumed into Hungary by the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867. And having that anachronistic princess must be the biggest factual error in this whole film!
