If the cops have reason to believe a riot will break out (and if people were willing to go to jail to go at them there is reason to believe that) they are allowed to tell them they will be arrested for insinuating a riot. That's happened before with them too for why they didn't show up.

My Grandfather served in the Navy during Korea, but since he never saw combat and left after his 2 years to live and raise his family, he never even came close to receiving the respect shown here, like his service didn't count because he spent his time "safely" aboard an LST, the USS Alameda County. I am a living historian(civil war reenactor) and at the time I was the Sgt Major of my Battalion. We were doing a memorial service for a fellow reeactor. He was also in the United States Army...He was killed in Afganistan. We were just getting underway with the memorial service for him...When a church group showed up...Not sure if it was Westboro Baptist or not...anyway they started raising a fuss about the military being murderers of innocent men women and children....and they were getting loud....I asked a police officer if they could do anything about the disruption...His words were, "They have every right to protest"....The protestors moved across the street onto the cemetery grounds....and getting louder...I then told the police officer there may not be anything you can do but there is something we can do...I I ordered the Battalion to Fix Bayonets. I then ordered a About Face. The protesters were still going on about the military being murders...I then ordered as loud as I could GUARD AGAINST INFANTRY, GUARD....everyones eyes including the cops got real big. The cops the said to me, "Dont do anything stupid". I said, No Sir...I would think of it"....I then gave the order to advance....We advanced them to the edge of the cemetery...and they did not want to play anymore...they dispersed and we had an uneventful memorial service after that

I hope you can understand that these men are US Army Rangers, and were only a few weeks back from a 1++ year long, very difficult deployment in Afghanistan. I really doubt they did any marching there. Yes, they still teach DNC in the Army, no outside of basic training and the odd change of command ceremony or parade, it is not emphasized. As a former NCO I appreciate what DNC builds in young recruits, but the soldiers you see here are NOT in this category. Rangers have more important things to do and train on than spend hours on the parade ground doing facing movements and column movements. If you want to believe the USMC is the most elite, cool whatever not going to argue with you. Most Marines are so egocentric and pumped full of hubris they can't accept the fact that yes, there are some units that are better at what they do than the Marines. If you somehow think the poor marching of these Rangers is a reflection of their combat effectiveness, then you Sir are a fucking moron. Oh and if you think this was bad, try finding Sailors from the Navy marching.

They probably couldn't find an allowed protesting spot to their liking. Ever since that law was signed saying they couldn't protest within two hours of a military funeral and had to stay 300 feet it's limited their military funeral protest. They don't see the point when the family can't see them. They want to be seen and heard. They also could have been told they'd be arrested. If the cops have reason to believe a riot will break out (and if people were willing to go to jail to go at them there is reason to believe that) they are allowed to tell them they will be arrested for insinuating a riot. That's happened before with them too for why they didn't show up.
This is my home town. I grew up with his family. Our community is unmatched in unity.

My Grandfather served in the Navy during Korea, but since he never saw combat and left after his 2 years to live and raise his family, he never even came close to receiving the respect shown here, like his service didn't count because he spent his time "safely" aboard an LST, the USS Alameda County. But he was a great family man and losing him was one of the worst days of my life.

I am a living historian(civil war reenactor) and at the time I was the Sgt Major of my Battalion. We were doing a memorial service for a fellow reeactor. He was also in the United States Army...He was killed in Afganistan. We were just getting underway with the memorial service for him...When a church group showed up...Not sure if it was Westboro Baptist or not...anyway they started raising a fuss about the military being murderers of innocent men women and children....and they were getting loud....I asked a police officer if they could do anything about the disruption...His words were, "They have every right to protest"....The protestors moved across the street onto the cemetery grounds....and getting louder...I then told the police officer there may not be anything you can do but there is something we can do...I I ordered the Battalion to Fix Bayonets. I then ordered a About Face. The protesters were still going on about the military being murders...I then ordered as loud as I could GUARD AGAINST INFANTRY, GUARD....everyones eyes including the cops got real big. The cops the said to me, "Dont do anything stupid". I said, No Sir...I would think of it"....I then gave the order to advance....We advanced them to the edge of the cemetery...and they did not want to play anymore...they dispersed and we had an uneventful memorial service after that

Gregg Hansen Gregg, firstly as one veteran to another (I served in the 101st ABN in Iraq), thank you for your service. I hope you can understand that these men are US Army Rangers, and were only a few weeks back from a 1++ year long, very difficult deployment in Afghanistan. I really doubt they did any marching there. Yes, they still teach DNC in the Army, no outside of basic training and the odd change of command ceremony or parade, it is not emphasized. As a former NCO I appreciate what DNC builds in young recruits, but the soldiers you see here are NOT in this category.
Rangers have more important things to do and train on than spend hours on the parade ground doing facing movements and column movements. If you want to believe the USMC is the most elite, cool whatever not going to argue with you. Most Marines are so egocentric and pumped full of hubris they can't accept the fact that yes, there are some units that are better at what they do than the Marines. If you somehow think the poor marching of these Rangers is a reflection of their combat effectiveness, then you Sir are a fucking moron.
Oh and if you think this was bad, try finding Sailors from the Navy marching.
