This is a really good video for the evap system! I do have a question though, would this same troubleshooting process also help resolve a P0456 error as well? Its a small leak in EVAP system and im not sure where to start. Thanks!
Hi @derpaull, glad the video is helping. Small leaks will be somewhere in this path. For these kinds of problems, I like to let them get worse - makes them easier to find. Focus more debug on areas with the most heat. Good luck.
Good question. I have not tried that BUT refer to the video about what is normally open and what is normally closed. You will probably see smoke when car is off but sealed when car is on (guessing)? If the valve(s) between your test point and the snorkel were in an open state, you could see some blow off. Side tip -- avoid strong vacuum when testing (only use hand pumps - machine vacuums could cause damage) and never use a shop compressor to test these components (too high pressure).
I'm in about 4 time zone per week, so not able to provide direct support. You might start with areas that have the most heat (upper part of engine bay). Good luck!
Hey man I have a question. What is the part number for the vacuum hose that is connected to this 20:51 ? I'm talking about the shorter U-shaped one that connects to the intake. I recently did a timing belt job on my car, and that hose was rock solid, and a big chunk of it cracked and fell off. Great video btw. I finally figured out what my issue was with the weirdly low idle after the timing belt job. I watched this (ua-cam.com/video/Wp2KgWFeqU8/v-deo.htmlsi=bm0qufLBe3x5mVfD&t=599) video for the VVTi rebuild, and the guy doesn't tell you to mark the cam gear cap to line up the holes correctly. After I did the timing belt job, my car has been idling way too low and only revs up to 1100rpm during cold starts. Hopefully, I will figure out my EVAP issue too from this video. I bought my IS300 with a P0440 CEL for an EVAP leak and I've been trying to figure out what could be the issue. Awesome video thanks again.
Glad you made progress on the idle issue. That cam gear is laser aligned by the factory so def go all out to mark the assembly before pulling it apart. As for the hose, I don't buy dealer parts for those things as I have a substock or 3/8 and 5/8 fuel rated vacuum hoses. You can generally get the shape you want without a kink if you run things a little long and or creatively. For sure, a brittle hose with cracked ends was a theme on all of my early 2000's cars.
actually, I just used a section of fuel rated hose and some fresh hose clamps. buy ~1 foot at the parts store. MUST be fuel rated. I think that one is 3/8 ID
I would NOT advise that. Anything for the evap system needs to be a Fuel rated vacuum hose, it will be a real pain to debug all over again due to wrong materials.

That snorkel in the canister you speak of, I smoked the system and smoke came out of the snorkel. Is that normal?

where are you located need some help on my 03 is300, got p0440 3 weeks ago replace my gas cap now i get p0441 and p0456.
