Greatest TRADER vs Greatest INVESTOR ! Simons Vs Warren Buffet: Who makes more money?

  • This video compares Jim Simons and Warren Buffet.
Jim Simons and Warren Buffett are two of the most successful people of all time. Simons is the founder of Renaissance Technologies, a quantitative trading firm that has generated an average annual return of 66% since 1988. Buffett is the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, an investment firm that has generated an average annual return of 21% since 1965.
In terms of wealth, Simons is worth an estimated $28 billion, while Buffett is worth an estimated $104 billion as of early 2023. Simons' wealth is derived from his ownership of Renaissance Technologies, while Buffett's wealth is derived from his ownership of Berkshire Hathaway.
However, when it comes to returns, Simons has outperformed Buffett by a wide margin. Renaissance Technologies' flagship Medallion Fund has returned an average of 66% per year since 1988, while Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has returned around 21% annually over the same time period.
Their styles are also vastly different. Simons is a quant trader who relies on sophisticated computer algorithms to make trades. He takes a data-driven approach to investing, using complex mathematical models to identify patterns and trends in the market. In contrast, Buffett is a traditional value investor who relies on his experience and judgement to identify undervalued companies with strong fundamentals. He famously avoids technology stocks and prefers to invest in companies with a durable competitive advantage.
Overall, while both Jim Simons and Warren Buffett are incredibly successful investors, they differ in their approach and style. Simons is a quant trader who relies on complex algorithms and mathematical models to make trades, while Buffett is a traditional value investor who seeks out undervalued companies with strong fundamentals. While Buffett has built a larger net worth over time, Simons has achieved much higher returns through his quant trading strategies.

It's misleading as the video is for retail and they don't have very high capital say above 10 lac . Trading is more or less standardized means every technical analysis book say same RSI ,Ema etc . Investing very difficult to learn if you wrong you pay heavy price. Investing is that easy why 80% mutual fund can't beat index even Buffett says to invest in index fund that too in USA. It's also myth that Buffett invest he also trade even sale option and he is doing it from 16 year to now 90+ .

@BEACON603 he doesn't sell naked short term options. He sells cash covered puts that are very long dated and those returns are miniscule compared to his investing returns. Never listen to anyone blindly

Trading is a zero sum game but you missed something very important. In the zero sum game here, not all experts are competing with themselves, money is actually flowing from immature and novice traders who are beginners, every year new people enter the market, those who survive and learn for a few years shift to the other side of profitable traders. This cycle keeps on running.

Sir, I like your videos and have huge respect. Without watching the video, I can guess that Investor makes more money than Trader. But, In India, most of the people don't have money to invest. so, we need to start with learn trading, make good capital to start the investing journey. Most of the people are just meeting the daily needs with job/salary. Thank you very much.

Sir, with due respect to you, I would like to put forth my opinion here. Yes, I agree that most of the people do not have much money to invest. Do you know the minimum money required for trading? If you come with 10k, market will take that money in one week. What do you do then? Trading should only be done with surplus money. If you have one Lakh rupees in your trading account, your daily trade should max 20k. Not more than that.

The main reason lot of people lose money in trading cuz no one is committed in what they are doing. They are engaged in some other profession and as they find time in betweeen they place trades and there are lot of people out their they jus think trading can create fortune in some days so they bring huge capital n lose everything cuz no knowledge and those 10% who really make money are the people who are doing real business they are committed to what they are doing. I'll take one example, what will be the probability if someone jus go in hospital and do the surgery what do you think will the patient live or die .. it's 100% sure that patient will die cuz he is not been operated by Pro doc same thing with trading if you take data of such thing then it will be 100% failure to become doc I hope you will relate this thing. Trading is serious business where you have to be really committed in what you are doing then only you will definitely be a successful trader🎉

Ajay ji. Maine aapka interview dekha CNBC Neeraj ji ke saath. Nice views. Look people give example of Warren Buffet but Warren Buffet is an institution and by that I do not mean in figurative sense. Its in the actual sense. Warren Buffet is owner of Berkshire Hathaway which has biggest investors behind it. Including the US Federal Reserve.
Ok jab banks crash hue the Berkshire Hathaway came to invest in Bank of America and Wells Fargo following 2008 economic crisis . He came and invested in Apple when it was going through a slow growth phase and stock was under performing. He came and invested in airlines stocks when they had hit bottom following the September 11 attacks and travel became restricted and oil prices had hit record levels.
Warren Buffet, I do know his personal stock picking abilities is not just a person. Its a complete institution with the money, the human resources and the political clout. Comparing him with an individual trader is like comparing the Indian cricket team with a domestic player in IPL.

Climax of ur video was quiet true...in long term trader become the investor...when i started to participate in market i always wanted to be investor and avoid all trading...i was avoiding trading because of the counsel of learned people who use to tell trading, specially option trading somehow is alike gambling...i started reading few books and landed to an author who completely changed my mythology about trading ...who narrated trading as profitable profession....(Speculation is a profitable business) who described knowledge is more important that capital....prior to reading him i use to give 50:50 to knowledge and capital..after 3 years of hard work...after practicing my setup and improvising my setup.... now i can say i m professional trader...but this is just a beginning like i have been born to the world of trading now i have long way to go ahead......sometime i watch ur video but most of ur content are precise to investing so currently not able follow rigorously...but when this trader will turn to be investor than i will definitely choose to follow u religiously

Partially wrong information. Investmwnta by investor, after certain point, is not liquid. Or aay technically its liquid but if you have 100 billion dollars in investment, you can't sell all stocks and yet have the market rising (not crashing and mking loss) and sell at high price. As usually the FII FPI what they do is, pump and dump, so take markets up using the derivatives money and then keep selling slowly daily for months and years, until you know no more is possible and rhen you already have the cash in hand.
While traders buy and sell and exit completely . Of course the money value can't then be so high. So if 100 billion goes in investment, trading will be only 50 million or 500 million but it is liquid. Everything can be taken out in days as compared to months.
Stock market being at a proper valuation and not into bubble zone, helps the real investors, while market going up helps the traders and investors exiting continously. Because onvestors know that it is better to have rangehound and aideways market than crashing to bottom. But those who manipualte want markets to go higely high and crash to rock bottom, to make money

However, a trader needs a minimum margin, such as 20 lakhs, to take a position. If the trader achieves an average yearly return of 40% and experiences a 20% drawdown, it will take approximately 3 to 4 years to see compounding benefits every time to add the margin. On the other hand, an investor using a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) with a 12% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) will surpass a 40% yearly profit over a period of 25 years

@@G2GAjaySharma beautifully done. i am also a fan of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, but then of course who isn't a fan of Michael Schumacher. then there is Lewis Hamilton but for some reason i never became an admirer of him.

Shumi was better I think and I will tell u why .. when he joined Ferrari , Ferrari was a bad car .. he took a bad car, worked with the team and engineers to improve the car... He became a champion with an average car. Hamilton got a great car to begin with. So a great car and a great driver vs Shumi average car and a great driver.

@@G2GAjaySharma absolutely, that's a good comparison. it was schumacher's brilliance.
