Forgiving Her Father's Killer - Shelby's Story

- In an instant Shelby’s life was shattered, when her father was shot and killed on December 3, 2021. Her father was her rock; the person that lead her to Jesus, encouraged her, and was always there for her. Days leading up to her father’s funeral, she had a moment where she knew that she had to pick bitterness or forgiveness towards the man who killed her father. On the porch of her house, as tears streamed down her face, she had a moment with Jesus that changed her life. She had a vision where she saw Jesus on the cross, in pain, dying for her and for the man that shot her father. In that moment, she decided to forgive the man who killed her father and share Jesus with Him. She realized that, to say that Jesus can’t forgive someone, would mean that you are telling God that He is incapable of something, and that’s not true. Emotion-filled, she spoke at her fathers funeral, to share about her dad and the forgiveness of Jesus. Soon a video of her speech went viral across the world. She then came to speak to 300 inmates inside of a God Behind Bars prison, and shared about the forgiveness they have in Christ. Leading 28 inmates to Jesus. One of the most powerful statements she said was, “Standing in the place of your victims. I, Shelby Houston, want to say that I forgive you. I forgive you. But I want to tell you about an even greater forgiveness, and that’s the forgiveness of Jesus Christ.”
We are all forgiven. We are all made new. We all get to take part in the greatest love of all, Jesus.

I watch and share a lot of testimonials from our brothers and sisters in Christ, but sometimes I run across a testimonial that is so anointed by the Holy Spirit it moves me to tears. This testimonial did just that. So absolutely beautiful in presenting The Gospel message through the lose and grief of a true believer who chooses to forgive - then preaches - forgiveness to others. So powerful. Keep up the good work little sister.

Shelby’s testimony touched my heart the very first time I saw her speaking at her father’s funeral & saying she had forgiven the man who killed him. I believe I saw it on a social media platform a few years ago. In that moment I knew this is the level of forgiveness the LORD wants each of His children to get to. True forgiveness. True love and compassion for people’s souls. This video made me cry and smile all at the same time. It’s beautiful to see Shelby using a personal tragedy to reach a people that need to know the LOVE of Jesus, The Christ…our beautiful Savior. Thank you for sharing! ✨🙏

I thought that making our parents proud was only when we become successful and get recognised by our society but now iv realised that the proudest moment for a father is when his son/daughter comes to christ and lives a life in a way Jesus wants us to.
As a father myself , nothing would make me more proud of my children than the way you have done.
Shelby’s testimony is amazing. You’ve completely changed my view on forgiveness, I’ve felt a lot of disdain and anger to someone who hurt me in the past and I felt I could never forgive them, but after hearing Shelby’s testimony I realise just how much freedom there is in forgiveness for me to too. This has challenged me in a really awesome way, and makes me realise that although I’ve walked the Christian path since birth like Shelby and grown up in churches and believe wholeheartedly in God I still have so so much to learn, and that’s what I love about faith, is that it is humbling and beautiful and teaches us how to be better every single day. She can forgive because she has been transformed by the Lord. That is the power of Jesus.

God bless you! I have been wanting to get into prison ministry myself. Not because of anything like your story but because I am almost 6 years clean from opiates and I want to share with these men and women that no matter what they've done in the past, your past does not define you. Jesus died on the cross for me and for all of them and I can relate to addiction and what it does to the addicted person as well as their families! Praise God I am clean and sober! Only by His Grace and Mercy! Thank you Almighty God!

The officer was Sergeant Richard Lee Houston II, a 21 year veteran of the Mesquite, Texas PD. The assailant is serving a life sentence without possibility of parole.

My niece was murdered minutes after midnight New Year’s Eve 2024. I spent part of the day angry but by the time I went to bed that night I knew I needed to pray for this man’s soul. And you’re so right he needs to pay for what he did. But he could have more freedom behind those bars than he did outside them. True freedom is from the Lord.
