    Thanks for all the fine videos. I doubt there will be an update for the FT3 for receive audio. My guess is the audio of the FT3 is limited much by the physics of the case and speaker design. More reasons to upgrade. But still really like my FT3.

    The 52 with the thumb mouse reminds me of my old blackberrys. For the price, I would have to also get 1.25m (or 23cm) triband and all the accessories. I'll keep both my old Kenwood TH-D74 (still by far my fav), the ID51 and FT1 which still work great!

    I haven't seen anyone cover the FT5D use with a laptop or tablet. The ICOM has a pretty neat android app to help use the radio.

    I have sold my FT 5D. I found the audio playback terrible. It sounds so awful to my ears … The Icom has a much better sound. Same as the Kenwood TH 74.

    I like the User Interface and the design of the ID-52 more then the ID-52. However there is this limited support of D-star....

    Deciding between d74 and Id 52. What will the D 74 do as far as TNC and APRS that Id 52 will not.
    I prefer icon 52s presentation as opposed to the D74.

    • @HamTechRadioScannerDrones
      @HamTechRadioScannerDrones  Рік тому

      The D74 in my opinion has more functions as it has full aprs but it looks like Kenwood are bringing out a new version in 2023 , Yes the 52 is impressive with its dual digital receive but only has DPRS and is a bit too big i prefer the FT5D we are spoilt for choice .The 51plus is still a fantastic handheld and a nice size.

    Not a technical ham oriented description more of a fashion show cosmetic thing. How about someone discuss the difference in codecs , does it sound good unlike every other dstar radio . Codecs have come a long way so someone out there give us a heads up technical talk as to why revert back to dstar . I had hoped Icom would have improved . Does it have more DR memories than an id51. So far looks like they only took an id51 and made it larger with a colour screen . Bluetooth ? Any technical hams out there ?

      @@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Thanks for your reply, I am having an Openspot also. But digital radio is not my cup of thea. Using the Ht's for satellite only. My experience is little better with Icom, I like the menu structure more. My Yaesu ft991a and FT891 have less than 8 our operating time in one year. The 7300 is running always. So thats why i was thinking that the ID52 has an userfriendly interface as well Best regards..Roy.

    You do a video on terminal mode on the ID 52 can you do a video on terminal mode access mode? What that does? It creates a hotspot with your ID 52 where you can use another radio to talk back to the 52 it works it works.😢

Anyone have a radio who could comment on how well the Bluetooth works on the FT5DR or the ID-52? Specifically interested in handfree vox capability to make communication while flying easier. My FT3 is at Yaesu for repair. The radio's bottom plastic cracked when I accidentally knocked it off a storage box onto a hard floor, a fall of about 14 inches. The rubber corners of the FT5 are appealing.
    I've thought of picking up an FT5 and selling the FT3 after repair (Yaesu's lead time to begin repairs currently is ten days from the time the radio arrives in shop). I do wonder, though, how long before that thin plastic fatigues and the battery no longer makes reliable contact. The ID-52 is much better in that regard and would make a good companion to my IC-705, but there's little if any D-Star around here. 73 de KN6NPZ
