Without making a big fuss about it, Lincoln Electric has been one of the best employers in America- at the height of the 2008 financial collapse, they managed to keep everybody working on a reduced schedule, but when the market was reopened, they were ready to fly. Innovation, American value and longevity have made them what they are. Everybody could take a lesson. It will be companies like Lincoln that will take back all the Chinese and others have taken, improve it and use it to beat them into the ground.

Mr. Gale Banks, I just want to thank you. In a world of "hooligans"...and comedic hacks, you shine bright in your pursuit of good practices, and engineering. I have always been a fan of banks products but the more I learn and watch you, the more I'm inspired and look up to your pursuit in performance engineering. I'm proud to call you a mentor from a far, and appreciate your drive for performance, your candor, and overall badass nature. You are truly one of my heroes! Seeing your drive for greatness in product development influences me to be better within my work. Thank you.
This is wild. The CEO of Torchmate prior to their merger with Lincoln used to own a class 7 desert race truck. I was the lead fabricator and mechanic for it. We had one of these tables in our shop for work on race trucks. This CNC plasma table is a nostalgic trip.
Gale, it is nice to see when you say. "I need to unbox it" you mean let me watch my Team uncrate it. You deserve it, you ment cutting the plastic off.!!! I wish I was in your shoes!!!
Gale is a legend. All these years in the industry, all the awards and accolades and not 1 bit of it has gone to his head. You can approach this man and he will treat you like he does everyone else. A true class act! This coming from a person that has known him for 10+ years when I was in the industry.
Kinda cool to see Gale in these videos; I worked for Gale Banks as an IT consultant quite a few years ago (not this century)... glad to see Gale going strong, though he had more hair the last time I saw him... but then so did I
Great history lesson on welding and on Lincoln. In addition to his process inventing electrical and welding patents, he also built his company, that to this day, is one of the most rewarding to the people who work there in the country much less Ohio. His grandsons still distribute over a quarter of the companies annual profits to the floor hands that build and help make better Lincoln products.
the issue i see is the cost of this machine if you add an accessory and the machine comes fully assembled the accessory should be fully installed as well. ESP since they are built to order machines with a 4 wee lead time.
The torchmate is an ok starter table, I would prefer instead a JD2 instead Better gantry and drive motors etc. Id also go with the one and only hypertherm plasma torch sets.
Hey gale have you hear of speed of air pistons be cool to do for killing a durmax see if they add power and reduce emissions that speed of air is claiming thanks gale love your videos
Torchmate CAD is installed and you can work on TM CAD on a personal computer. It even has nesting built in and a ton of other features. It’s quite remarkable.
I like how he just glazed over the fact that Lincoln bought a turn key cnc plasma table manufacturer and that the guy that started torchmate ( Bill Kunz) built the first one a Pantagraph cutter out a Ford windshield wiper motor in the 70's . I own one of the earlier kit versions a Torchmate 3 5x10. I even went to his house where he was selling then out of his basement. He showed me his stock room and all the different models. Then they grew and his son took over in Nevada.
Why would he go into detail of who did what in their basement before making it big and being bought out?? It’s irrelevant. Takeovers are a matter of good business, why sink money into developing your own line when you can just buy a company ready to go??
@@moparproud3978 But he was talking about how Lincoln was created. What I'm getting at is he didn't buy a welder he bought a plasma table which Lincoln didn't even invent but he was going all history channel on what they did in the past. Oh and ever since Lincoln bought them their customer service has gone down the toilet. I should know I have been calling them for 12 years. Now its some under paid inexperienced person who you can hear flipping the book to that page to figure out your problem. It just means I won't buy my next table from them. Nothing ever good comes from a huge company buying a small one.
For some reason the phone lines are not working. Neither the 800 line nor the tech line. Also tried email with no response. How can I contact someone from Banks?
Speed and price would be my first thoughts. Water jets cut about anything but HP / power requirements and maintenance for a 60,000 psi water jet are pretty steep and you need about 50 HP worth of electricity. As an example the ceramic plungers in the intensifier are over $1500 and after about 2000 hours they are due for replacement. Garnet is about 25 cents a pound and you typically run a pound a minute. Great machines tbh but you need to understand the costs before jumping into one of those beasts. I suspect the plasma cuts metal a little faster and less expensively. But warp from heat can be an issue as well as work hardening the cut edge in the right material.
@@tbthedozer Agreed. Waterjet is versatile and accurate but cost prohibitive. Plasma is the fastest metal cutting method plus consumables are comparatively cheap. Even if you have to cut thick steel, most plasma tables will easily switch to a torch which is the fastest method when you are cutting over an inch thick. Warping is not an issue with plasma if you keep parts under water. The tables cost a bit more but smoke and warping are all but eliminated.
Only Mr.Banks could make me watch a 17 min Lincoln Electric ad and love every second of it
I thought I was alone, thank you.
I totally agree! 😁

You're going to want an air dryer on that it cools the air and makes the tips last 4x as long

Gale’s parents must’ve have some kind of foresight, I’ve never seen or heard of anyone so aptly named.
I hope it works out. The last new Lincoln equipment we purchased was terrible.

Yea Hypertherm software, power supplies and torches worked really well for us.

How much does one of these cost, if my wife finds out I'm asking for a friend.
Probably around 100k
About $40,000 for this light table
