Nice to see more people playing Polytopia on UA-cam! I haven’t really utilized philosophy and mind benders, especially in multiplayer, but it’s an interesting tactic
8:25 my most underrated unit: dinghy (cloaks in boats). I like to play 1v1s on normal-continents maps, and if there are huge late-game pressures on the choke points, i just train a couple cloaks in a port city and send them to make an ambush in the 2nd line cities. It's very effective bc the enemy is concentrated in the main battle, doesn't expect an attack on the far away cities (that considers safe), and isn't prepared to counter the attack, so the siege is hardly going to be stopped. Once u capture the city, the job becomes 10 times easyer and you are pretty much able to gain the control of that zone for free
Your strategy thinking is fire! Thank you so much for your content! Polytopia such a great game with wide spread of tactics, ill never get tired with it
Quick tip for gender-benders: two of them together are really strong. Like at turn 20, moving the mindbender towards your second city and training one new mind bender would've softlocked his giant. if he doesnt retreat, it gets converted. if he attacks, he gets converted. Also use the fog of war to your advantage. On turn 21, you trained a swordsman in your third city when you saw the giant approaching. You knew the city wasnt in vision because he hasnt noticed the village for 20 turns. so if you had trained a mind bender, the giant would've gotten converted.
I love this game but I have found no creator who has made content that is fun to watch with this game, until I found your channel! Instant sub great work!
Defenders are definitely underrated if you find yourself facing a stronger army you can buy time. Combining defenders with a defense boost makes them almost invincible!
I used to think that too but I recently noticed that usually if I start playing defensively it usually means things aren't going to go so great. Of course, I'm not saying they are bad but kinda last resort. (A cool trick I found to discourage giants into seiging is putting several defenders - spawn a new one move them each turn - around a city then have some extra units that can move in surround all 8 tiles of the city. If you giant push the giant will then get deleted. If they know about this feature its too expensive to get rid of the defenders which can be spammed, if they don't it will be a very nasty surprise for them)
@@BIGBURRGAMING 9:15 ooo this is very speculative but they could have done that trick I mentioned here if they get roads (already had riding) its prety similar to a mindbender trap but much more things have to go right and more expensive
I just got this in my recommendations and I really like your commentary about the game! The video quality is amazing considering your channel size. Keep up the good work ❤
There were a few plays you could've done with those mind benders at the beginning. For example, when you were talking about how great it was that you moved them back, there was one that you could have moved forward. If you had moved it forward and moved the other one even further back, he likely would have attempted to siege with his Giant, and you could've bended that. Remember, Mind Benders only cost 5 stars, if you lose them trying to put on some barriers, it's not the end of the world. In addition, when you kept talking about how you could've pulled back units, that isn't quite right. If you didn't have the offensive pressure of those two Giants, they would have been able to advance further and take the grounds of your Capital, and they would have been able to train more catapults in that city, and your giants would have died either way, but if you had pulled them back your capital would have died, too. If you use Mind Benders, be offensive with them. Kickoo didn't have any knights pretty much and therefore you could have lined up Mind Benders in a way that you can push them forward, but if one of them gets killed then you convert the unit that killed the Mind Bender. Put Mind Benders behind lower health units to protect them.
I play a lot of creative with islands maps and in that environment, going philosophy early is critical because it lets you get pacifist monument as well as getting a ton of tech for cheap since you're going to spend a lot of the game on one city. FWIW, Aquatism is also critical on islands maps for the defense bonus on water tiles.
Quality Video man. Didn't know I needed a black Polytopia creative until this video but glad I watched this video. Had to sub one time for the one time
2:10 I think this one depends largely on the size of the map. If you encounter your enemy later more likely to get the pacifist monument and the discount is more of a long term thing. Not sure how effective it is but a friend that I often play with rushes for the discount and then starts getting custom house stuff set up.
Yes this is a good example of veteran swordsman being useful (if you got one from the ruin all the way in the bottom is an example of a bad one) edit: I take that back this is a tiny map
Very strong defense and unit micro. It's difficult being down so much eco, but you fought well. I'm wondering why at 0:58 you leveled up your city instead of training 2 warriors. You would've been able to hold off on defense and level up the following turn, allowing you to (barely) keep the city and still have a decent eco. Ig hindsight is 20/20 tho, you still gave the opponent a tough time even after that decisive misstep.
I actually do use Xin Xi a lot, and I often use philosophy whenever I know I want roads, forestry, ports, all the techs that help me upgrade all my stuff and swordsmen to fight very effectively, I go for it whenever I have breathing room and acceptable income
Very good game, Its rare that I use mindbenders to attack and either they heal or bait a giant for converting, otherwise the reduced tech cost usually makes it worth the cost to get
One unit I use in a way you might not expect is using polytaurs for ships and battleships instead of defenders (when playing Elyrion). I love polytaurs because (a) for same HP, they're less expensive, or at least same stars if you're counting the lack of a star you're earning from the nearby sanctuary, (b) reproducible with sanctuaries, and (c) the "independent" ability means I can fill the ocean with these guys and never produce more units than my home cities can handle. The only disadvantage is that if I want to land to siege a city, the 1 defense definitely makes that harder
My problem with polytopia is that catapults and giants with maybe shieldmen wins almost every endgame and bardur just has a direct path to catapults and a high economy so for me there is no underrated unit. Catapults and giants are just superior. Also great video! Keep it up
5:10 kickoo player throws by not just killing the mindbender with their ship here. Your warrior blocks its access to that tile NE of your capital with zone of control, but not if they just buy navigation which they had the stars for. I'm guessing they were weary of the mindbender you moved to the west that they don't have vision on, but they could have just won there
The cymanti mindbender its powerful. I like to not capture a city so bots keep training units and I convert them in order to get free units or special units likw the gaami, mooni, the polaris tank.😊
My tribe is Polaris! I win everything with Polaris & the freeze mode work excellent with the mindbender. The only thing that troubles me with Polaris is the archery doesn't cause damage with the freeze mode. I wish when it freezes that atleast 1 or 2 health points wud b removed..but other then that, Polaris is KING!! 👏👏💪💯💃 This game was entertaining..thank U. 👍
Kickoo not having that lake filled with battleships is weird. A Giant Battleship wouldve crippled your capital hard. They didnt utilies their army at all. That early swordsman was the only thing going for em.
I do work towards philosophy sometimes.eirther when I realize I'm expanding to quickly and I need cheaper tech.or when I'm facing n oppent whose using giants warriors and archers.becuse of how cumbersome the giants are and the lack of damage from warriors and archers.they usually make a couple of dumb mistakes trying to reposition their troops if they are trying to siege a city or kill one of my sturdier units.i also find that when you throw in mindbenders against a large force like that.they either end up wasting a whole lot of time figuring out how to avoid getting converted,or they don't have enough time and do something stupid.
I feel like your opponent just saw they had a city advantage and just went too aggro and let you get some more value off the mindbender As for underrated units, for sure archers are the most underrated unit ever
My underrated unit is the defender. I only see people using it to hold cities, but it can be used to zone control and also to last hit enemy units if they're in range. Regarding your game, I dont understand why you resigned bro, you could still hold the game for a few turns, just waiting for a blunder to take a city you know? It's something I always say, don't give up before you lose.
Good game! I just don't understand why your opponent didn't chase an earlier Chivalry. Wouldn't knights counter your mindbenders with less risk of falling behind in researching catas or swordsman because you went Philo? I suppose you have tech price discount from Philo but he has city advantage so it could have ended quicker
That proxy base should've been defended by amassing swordmen and making an annoying distraction. Also should've defended the middle base by attacking the warrior and making more. Greedy Burr.

I found it really wierd that you got such small amount of subs while you're making such an amazing content

So true
Nice to see more people playing Polytopia on UA-cam! I haven’t really utilized philosophy and mind benders, especially in multiplayer, but it’s an interesting tactic

Mindbenders too OP haha
Also that little warrior sneaking all the way to the other end of the map I'm dying 😂

Nice! Unique pick, cloaks can be very effective in the later game to find the weak spot in your opponent’s defense!
Your strategy thinking is fire! Thank you so much for your content! Polytopia such a great game with wide spread of tactics, ill never get tired with it
Yes! It's a simple game yet has so many layers of strategy to it at the same time. I love it!

Yes defenders are clutch especially behind a city wall!

Excellent analysis! Right, I could’ve been more aggressive with the mind benders potentially turning the tide of a few battles

Interesting I’ve tried this strategy when playing Ai-Mo, it’s high risk high reward. I either get a huge advantage or get rolled lol
Bro your channel is gold keep doing what your doing 💯 🔥
Thank You!!
It would be funny if you trained a mindbender from your hidden village/city when the Kickoo Giant first marched into it.
Man that would have been epic!!!
Just found you on my recommended and found I’m me out how underrated you are🔥
Thank you!!
Cool bro i love this game and ur the only one who makes it exciting to watch it on youtube.
Thank you!!
Exciting game for sure! GG bro and awesome work with the video!🔥

Damn almost a crazy come back I think cloaks are underrated because the way that u can steal stars from da enemy it’s like an envestment
Facts! Cloaks are super effective when used and timed properly

I only get philo with a large injection of resources early, or with the Ai-Mo
Pretty good game. Surprised you held it up for so long.
Thank you! Me too, when I watched it back I was shocked
Very good game, Its rare that I use mindbenders to attack and either they heal or bait a giant for converting, otherwise the reduced tech cost usually makes it worth the cost to get
Agreed. Rarely worth it, but sometimes effective lol
I love the idea of getting philosophy early, but very expensive.

Nice video man. Nice try. I am playing against you right now!!

Mind benders are horrible units lol, its very easy to counter them. Despite the criticism, its always great to see another polytopia youtuber. Go you!
Haha Thank you!
На самом деле, на 4:34 он мог победить, если бы он открыл навигацию и он убил mind bendera с 5 hp
Mind benders amd archers, because of the trap ability of the mind benders and the fact that archers hard counter early catapults
Die Phychi. Die sind auch sehr gut in early discovery
Zustimmen. Danke :)

Not sure if its underrated (probably isn't) but when I first started I heavily underestimated the power of riders.

I feel like your opponent just saw they had a city advantage and just went too aggro and let you get some more value off the mindbender

Mind benders are underrated.
Setting traps won't really work if the other opponent has been playing properly and getting good vision.
