I just go the reply from Coleman Product Management that the plastic is NOT BPA-free - so I thought this might be an important info to share with the people that are interested in using the cooler for making ice cubes
I don’t drink alcohols at all, but today you have shown me the way with your beautifully crafted, artist quality ice. My Kool-aid game has just reached a whole other level.
Now this is how to make a video. It got straight to the point. It was not self-indulgent as the focus was on the content, not the presenter’s face. Nice simple technique too. No need to buy overpriced clear ice makers. The guy who made this video would be good company.
Clicked expecting a shitty tutorial, got a really high production quality video that was also really interesting to watch. Also, totally trying the maple drink. Subbed.
Hah - I often make my Old Fashioneds that way if I run out of simple syrup and I'm too lazy to make more. Now I know that I'm not being lazy, I'm being fancy. ;)
Very cool. You just saved me from buying a clear ice making contraption. This makes perfect sense and actually looks pretty fun too. Thanks for the video
I researched this process once before and it was much more difficult. Your method is simpler yet has excellent results. I will definitely give it a try. Thank you.
Wow, this is actually pretty simple to do. I've seen a lot of clear ice makers on the market that are basically just tiny coolers, but never thought of actually getting a small cooler and trying that myself. Thanks for the tip, will be doing this for sure.
Dude I love how in-depth you get with these drinks, it is an art. Liquor is like nature, it can be very beautiful to the eyes yet has the potential to fuck you up
I heard about a $80 one that makes clear ice, I opted for the same model used here. Reading up on it i learned about directional freezing and was thinking about trying to do something similar. Glad to see it actually works. Thanks for sharing.
Hahaha, am I supposed to be offended by a social cripple like yourself? Hide behind your anonymous profile and keep trolling the internet. The real world is too harsh on losers like you, as I'm sure you learned in high school
Because the majority of people that comment on UA-cam are assholes. They need to complain about things, it's like their religion. The best part is, they are too chicken shit to produce anything themselves. Cowards.
Clear ice is an incredible thing. I think most of us grew up seeing nothing but foggy ice cubes, so knowing that this is possible makes the drinks they go with that much more enjoyable. Great video too!
I rarely ever like videos. I only like videos if I want to find them again. I liked the video. I've seen a couple methods of making clear ice. this is by far the best I've seen.
How to make crystal clear ice. Step 1: fill cooler with water. Step 2: empty your freezer to make room for cooler Step 3: Wife finds out you threw away all the frozen food, and hopelessly yell at you for hours. . . . Last step: enjoy your beverage alone, and look at the camera w/ a hollow smile. Because you realize your wife finally left you for good when she got tired of restocking the freezer whenever you have an urge to make fancy ice. just kidding, love your videos ; )
Or just buy another freezer. "Honey, why we have 8 freezers?" "You know. One is for food, one is for homemade ice cream, one is for ice for drinks, one is to cool stone i need to make pralines and chocolate decor..." "You are crazy." "I'm not the one who needs 10 lockers for cosmetics in bathroom."
So...i got here because I'm reading a book where the main character drinks Old Fashioneds everyday, was curious about the drink, found your Old Fashioned video and was fascinated by the ice in your drinks! I love falling down the rabbit hole to learn new things especially when it starts with my #1 hobby/pastime of reading "smut"! Lol...great tutorials by the way! I'm off to purchase the ingredients! 😍
+RexXflash I agree fully, good sir. people should drink less alcohol, now that we have these formidable alternatives, such as codeine, xanax or angel dust.
This vid is short and to the point, and shows the simplest way to get clear ice. The other vids are way longer and tell you to go buy a bunch of stuff you don't really need.
At times cloudy ice can have an off taste to it as well and when it melts you see the impurities in the bottom of the glass . I stopped using my refridgerator ice machine years ago .
I came here for a way to make clear ice for an old fashioned (my new fav drink) and now I know how to do that, plus I got a recipe for an old fashioned that I'm totally going to try! Thanks for the great video!
I make at least two batches a week and people thought it was weird at first but as soon as they see the results they always think it's cool, and now I'm known as the clear ice guy.
very cool video, I tried it myself with the expected result, but I have a problem when it comes to cutting the block of ice. After I cut it a bit with a big knife, when I hammer it it never goes right-angled, some parts really go in the bad direction. I have the feeling I'm doing just like you on the video but maybe did I miss some parts. Any help? ;) Thanks!
Hmm, try cutting into both sides of the block before hammering it. Make sure your hammering the part of the knife that's in the center line of the block of ice as well
For huge ice balls for scotch - the real simple extention of this method is to use tall insulated stainless steel coffee mug. The difficult part to find one with straight neck. Fill it with water, put in a freezer. Wait a day. Turn over and gently tap over the sink. The top 1/3 - 1/2 will slide out as single block of clear ice. The only trick is not too wait too long - you don't want more than top 1/2 frozen
lostintime86 Bud just one drink will throw an alcoholic back into the habit, grown up with enough alcoholics to know that. So no it won't kill someone immediately, but it will likely undo any recovery they've made.
Pretty messed up guys...if you understand alcoholism in the slightest. My uncle was a recovering alcoholic and actually continued to bartend at MGM Grand for many years.
Just made my first batch - carving is a little tricky, but I think I can do better next time. And was pleasantly surprised to find out I'd bought the same cooler as the one shown in the video
Love it love it. My favorite is a Black Manhattan.... yum!!! I also add a 1/2 oz of the juice from the black cherries (my own personal touch). With the orange bitters and angostura bitters, rye whiskey and averna. Best drink!!
Nicely done. I use a similar technique for the sphere's but I use an insulated travel mug like you'd use for coffee. It's insulated all on it's own so I can just set it in the freezer by itself (without having to drop it in a cooler full of water.) Self contained directional freezing and I don't have to mess up the nice, big ice block in my cooler! (I can also churn them out much quicker than the 2 days I set my cooler in the freezer for.)
Before this Covid craze, I would always make drinks for my friends with the “nice ice” that I learned from this video. They always though I had bought the ice and were pleased to find out I would make it. It made their experience that much better.
+DeathlyDiJ It's actually a different concept, ice is transparant, when light enters 1 small ice cube i just goes through and the ice cube stays transparant. When light enters 1 ice cube next to lots of ice cubes the light goes in in a different angle and doesnt go through but keeps on reflecting through all ice cubes, and in the reverse prism of light, the colour is white. that's also the reason why a cube is more clear than a ball as a ball reflects differently.
Just tried this yesterday. but I just did a little cut on the top end of the ice block, so the ice kept splitting up uneven. But I used a knife with a uneven blade and a tiny hammer, so I will have to upgrade those to something better for my next attempt. I did end up with 2 bags full of beautiful clear random shaped ice cubes. It is quite fun and the ice looks so much cooler then that old dull cloudy ice cubes you get.
Been subbed for a while, not 21 yet, always have had an appreciation for taking something w a bad rap and making it classy, can’t wait to try some of the drinks on this channel when the time comes!
The shapes and the clarity of the ice are so pretty and charming. I don't know how most men would feel about these things, but I think they would be a very special touch to us women.

I have zero experience making drinks for people, but this was really relaxing to watch.

I don’t drink alcohols at all, but today you have shown me the way with your beautifully crafted, artist quality ice.

That's what I'm here for lol
That's good that you don't drink

The last video I watched was a guy promoting his page for wayyyy too long before teaching anything to me. NEXT! Glad I found this one!
Can we focus on the face a little, it’s a very nice face.
I love clear ice. It allows me to see the bad decisions at the bottom of the glass.👍👍

Now this is a quality tutorial. Great format, great music, speaking, and volume management of the audio. Subbed and liked.
I don't know how I got here, but I'm staying for the classy music.
John singapore airlines plays similar music when taking off and landing. maybe to keep passengers calm.

I'm not surprised he went for the old fashion. Best cocktail ever created.
A perfectly clear sphere of ice is the epitome of elegance
Very cool. You just saved me from buying a clear ice making contraption. This makes perfect sense and actually looks pretty fun too. Thanks for the video
Finally a way to add some class to my 40 oz.
+123corey Gold.
C.APWAP its the change that counts
way easier to do than I would have thought. Propts to you for not milking every video to run past 10 minutes for ads, like most others on this topic
I was wondering why UA-cam recommended this to me if I've never had a cocktail before, but I still ended up watching the whole thing. Damn you UA-cam.
I love you MeLikeBigBoom always watch your vids keep up the awesome work
Me too. It's annoying.
Same here
I researched this process once before and it was much more difficult. Your method is simpler yet has excellent results. I will definitely give it a try.

Please keep making videos dude.
I'm not a huge drinker, but I love when class and chemistry elevate cocktails into an art form.
Yes, some people don't care about the ice but the difference is the dedication, is our attitude to make this fine art. And I truly love this video.
"hey man, where you at?"
"I'm in the lab... making some high quality ice."
People kinda cold for not liking these comment
This inspired me to try it - my wife and I just carved up our first perfectly clear ice :)
I heard about a $80 one that makes clear ice, I opted for the same model used here. Reading up on it i learned about directional freezing and was thinking about trying to do something similar. Glad to see it actually works. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video. No bullshitting around or over extending the video. Clear concise and to the point. Love it.
I can never find fresh ice. All the bars near me just use that frozen stuff.
+Keira Churchill That's why I began growing my own. I keep an ice garden in my freezer, you just need to make sure to water it.
elementneon I'm terrible at gardening. Maybe if I put my mind to it and ignored the frostbite I could eventually get some gangrene fingers.
+Keira Churchill or you'd at least have a gangrene thumb
This is why I love reading the UA-cam comments. Sometimes you just come across 2 year old pockets of gold like this. :-)
Omg...
I've watched so many tutorials on making clear ice, but your video is by the far the best. Explained very well and easy to follow. Well done!
Will it work if I don't play fancy music while making these?
Of course not. You also need a nice dress shirt and a manly beard or an elegant updo and cocktail dress for the ladies.
Things like this aren't for guys with beards. More like pencil dick weirdos with oversized glasses and skinny ties.
Thank you for your contribution.

MrYouarethecancer Since when do hipsters like dubstep? I thought hipsters hated everything vaguely mainstream.
This is one of the better tutorials that I have seen on YT for making clear ice. Good job.
the music and the way you spoke earned u a like, well done
I've seen several videos on this technique, and this one is by far the most thorough. Also really short and to the point.
I don’t get why all the dislikes. He did exactly what the title says. What did they expect? Him to cure cancer?
7.8/10 Too much water.
Maybe some people don’t like what’s in the video, maybe the just don’t like the video? That’s why u give a dislike

This is one of the clearest (pun intended) tutorials on how to make clear ice. Thanks a lot!
There have been some funny recipe video spoofs going around on how to "make ice". But this guy is actually giving a tutorial on how to make ice.
Over 24k subs in only 3 videos? Keep making these and your channel will do very well indeed!

Doesn't the large portions of ice become a block in the face while shooting that last sip?
Doesn't any type or size of ice? 🤔🤔🤔 Maybe a straw would be helpful if you're worried about it.
It made their experience that much better.
how do i make cloudy ice? i only have clear ice :s
+DeathlyDiJ just google one ice cube, and then after more ice cubes, youll see the difference
I'dont know, but I have a recipe for yellow ice.
yeah, I sell impurities, I'll make you a fair price
I believe it depends on water. It's possible to be unable to do cloudy ice if water is demineralised.

I don't care how ice looks in my home made cocktails, but I enjoyed your video while sipping on old fashioned one, sir, cheers
Seems like a lot of effort considering the main reason I drink is to be lazy. Good for if you're running an establishment though.
This was perfect. Thanks for sharing. That globe trick was unexpected.
If you're taking that much effort to make the ice, wouldn't you want to use purified or distilled water instead of tap water?
+Jason Fritz Why?
+rudirs3 tap water has that slight chlorinated taste
+Zadss One I mean it depends where from, but yeah that makes sense
+Zadss One tap water prevents cavities and tooth decay. The ones drinking only bottled and filtered water have the worst teeth of all time.
but this is only for ice, not everything you drink

Pretty or attractive food/drinks always "taste" better than there less good looking counterparts! Thank you for the tip!
Fun fact: ice is actually a mineral, and calling it a "rock," even in the context of cocktail ice, is geologically incorrect.
+Zizi Mugen
"In geology, rock or stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids."
scusi
VicariousReality7 A solid, inorganic substance with a regularly repeating crystalline structure is characteristic of minerals. Geology for the win! :o
The shapes and the clarity of the ice are so pretty and charming. I don't know how most men would feel about these things, but I think they would be a very special touch to us women.
Good men take pride in their work. Which means they take pride in their presentation. I believe the sexes line up pretty well on this one.
Dang, wasn't expecting someone so attractive at the end
it looks amazing, I'll try it according to your method
