Then I saw it again in a theatre in 1979 or 1980, this time I took my sister on a bicycle to show her the movie. First time my parents allowed me to take her out on my own, she was 7 or 8 years old. In 1983 a cousin returned from Dubai and he brought three audio cassettes, two of them had the entire movie, and one had all the songs and most of the iconic dialogues. As a teenager I have heard them multiple times. I still have those cassettes, but don’t have a working player. I can flawlessly render the gabbar sings introductory dialogues even today.
At the time, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar were actually the established, big stars. Thus Amitabh Bachchan was not the lead actor in the script. But Sholay and Deewar both came out in 1975 and took him to a higher orbit.
Hey, if you guys are looking into golden age cinema, you have to check out the film Umrao Jaan starring Rekha. Its one of the greats, and its been on my mind since that Heeramandi series came out (since it also deals w/ Tawaifs). Unfortunately, a lot of the prints available do not subtitle the songs, which is a shame since its one of THE landmark soundtracks in the history of indian cinema....
When takhur the arm less old man jumps up in the end fight u can see his hands placed behind him for a second lol. Amjad khan aka Gabar was his debut with sholey.😮
???? Are you questioning if I actually enjoy Indian films? I wouldn’t watch over 800 of them if I didn’t. Besides, who wouldn’t love Sholay? It’s a classic for a reason

If you have to see Amitabh at his best then watch trishul, Don, sharaabi and muqaddar ka sikandar. You will see the highest class of acting.

The director cut is 4hrs with the ending were Gabar Singh died on the nail. Its based on the,7, samurai and magnificent seven lol.😮 ❤😊❤
Would highly recommend Dharmji's cult classic Bollywood movie Krodhi. With a similar climax to Sholay but with a different twist.

No crew can remake Sholay. No way. It also reacts in the mind of viewers.
And Gabbar probably remains the most iconic villain of Indian cinema, with Mogambo (Amrish Puri in Mr. India) being a respectable runner-up.
Best Indian movie. Funny thing is the unknown actor Amjad khan of Gabbar Singh became the most popular. Just like Darth Vader.
