Rosianna, I adore you. I love to put on your videos and listen to you talk, sometimes on replay throughout the day. Thank you for giving us this piece of you.

The way you talk about books and bookshops and stories makes me feel all comfy and ready to pick up a book. I have not done that in a while so thank you for your inspiration!

One thing I adore about bookshops is the quiet protective feeling they give- like this room of words, some decades old, some only weeks, provides just this kind of warmth that makes everything ok, that this too shall pass etc. I used to go to a bookstore on my lunch break to calm down and counteract any anxiety that was brewing, and it would work every time, and its something i still do now. This video is such a good reminder of the wonder and almost mythical power bookshops can have

I love how many of the bookstore shots are through the windows! It really feels very cozy and warm. Peering in/out of Windows is such a good feeling!

It's a drizzly Sunday morning, I'm tucked up in bed with a steaming mug of good coffee, one of my cats is purring beside me and this is the PERFECT video for the occasion

I'm going to London for the first time in July - am absolutely thrilled to visit some bookshops!

This video makes me want to gush on my local small independent bookshop. It is such a glorious spot in my smaller city. The shop opened 3 years ago as a used bookshop and in the last year the owner has been curating the loveliest selection of new books as well. It is a place for much needed community events, a good chat, and a cozy read.

Last time I was in London I went to Librería, because you and Sanne had mentioned it before a couple of times, and I loved it. I loved the selection of titles available and the design of the space.

Loved this video!! I don't read as much as I would like to, but independent bookstores are close to my heart. I haven't been to one in ages, but my favorite is one I've been to about three total times: the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, Vermont. For a few years while I was still living at home, my family would take a day trip to Vermont (we live in CT) in early fall to see the colors and my favorite stop was always the Northshire Bookstore. It's gorgeous; it has two floors, the second being devoted to kids' books and toys, separated by a massive and beautiful wrought-iron staircase. There's tons of old furniture and it's just cramped enough that it's cozy without making it difficult to move around. Also, because it's in a relatively touristy town in Vermont, it just has that perfect New England vibe to it that I adore.

I'm sorry to hear about the crash but am glad everyone appeared to be okay. I spent the weekend helping friends in their booth at an Expo and was away from all my books, so this was lovely to watch just before my return.

What a good idea to choose a route along a bus line! Now we can all do the same when we are in London! I love this video!
I am sorry to hear that your bus crashed though - hope you are well!

You're the loveliest. I'm so sorry to hear about your bus crash, but I hope you're feeling 100% better from it soon. Also, I very much need to get to more of the bookstores around me. Thank you for the inspiration, Rosianna!

I’m studying abroad in the UK currently at Exeter, I’m originally from the US), and I spent all of this past Sunday wandering through bookshops alone. It was wonderful, but I made it mostly the big ones-foyles and waterstones and hatchards, etc so I’m really excited to add these smaller indie bookshops to my list to visit next time I’m in London! Next week is our reading week so I’m hoping to make it up to London for a day at least!

Yes, please!!!! A video or a series about the experience of book adaptations and your favourites would be great. Also I’ve hopes for a tour of the (50? 60?) books you keep :)

Was composing this comment in my head, then saw someone said nearly the same thing, so I thought, maybe I shouldn't, but, it must be said:
I adore you, Rosianna. Your love for the written word is pure and effervescent, and it reminds me of how much I loved books in my childhood.
Also, thanks for reminding me of my ever-growing pile of books I've bought but haven't read myself. :P

The bookstores reminded me of those I frequent when I was studying in UK. Independent bookstores are cozy and I feel like their recommendations are a bit more special. Sorry to hear about the bus accient but glad to know no one is hurt. Look forward to future book reviews/ recommendation videos. I have always enjoyed the books you rec-ed. ;)

Bookshop crawls are just so invigorating. I did one in Melbourne a few years back, and that was great. So many second hand bookstores.
I will be visiting London for the first time in the next few months, so this vid is ideal for planning where to go :)

Persophone books is just round the corner from me if you've not been and it's something fairly different, very small but cool. They publish: "Persephone Books reprints neglected fiction and non-fiction by mid-twentieth century (mostly) women writers. All of our 128 books are intelligent, thought-provoking and beautifully written and are chosen to appeal to busy people wanting titles that are neither too literary nor too commercial. We publish novels, short stories, diaries, memoirs and cookery books;"
Also there is a Skoob books - a brilliant second hand bookshop not far away. Skoob being books backwards, ALWAYS love that. Then I often go to the Gower Street Waterstones which is such a gorgeous building.

I LOVE PERSEPHONE BOOKS!!! Too many caps? But I wander in there a lot. And Gower St Waterstones is def my fave Waterstones-I spent half of the summer working in the courtyard. I haven’t been to Skoob, I don’t think. Will do at the next opportunity!

@@rosianna It's hidden in a basement of the Brunswick Centre, tucked away on the north facade near the small entrance to Waitrose :) It's fun to see what you can find.
Aw how lovely abuot the Gower street Waterstones! I love sitting in one of the turret windows if possible.

This was so lovely, and it made me miss London! I just moved to a new city and I'm excited to get to know the book shops and library system. I also love seeing the Rookie Yearbooks on your bookshelf-- I brought only a small book collection with me when I moved, but I made sure Years 1 & 2 were in it.

Oh Rosianna, this video made me happy. I wish I could come to London more often because your bookshops are all so marvelous ! Here in Paris, I buy my french books in a little independent bookshop that is SO lovely and it makes me so happy to go there every time. As for the English ones, I go to Galignani because it's less crowded than Shakespeare (and less expensive as well).
Anyway, hearing you talk about books this morning completely gave me a huge smile. :)

    • @emeline_4
      @emeline_4 6 років тому

What is the name of the bookshop where you buy books in French please? I live in Paris and this video made me realise that I need to start looking more into independent bookshops 😊

Hi Emeline! You definitely should check out "La Compagnie" near St Michel ! If you're looking for more fantasy/sci-fi stuff then "La Dimension Fantastique" is the best out there. They are also very nice. Hit me up if you need more recs :)

That sounds great, minus the terrifying bus crash. Makes me want to do a local bookshop crawl here (minneapolis). I've written down a few of the ones you got, especially interested in seeing what Salt is about. I am having the best weekend - went walking in the autumn leaves, now I'm baking my favorite sweet rolls, and next weekend going to my favorite vacation spot!!

This was lovely! I did a bit of a bookshop crawl when I visited Montreal at the end of the summer and was adequately jealous of the quality of their independent bookshops by the end of it. It’s also nearly impossible to find interesting contemporary French language fiction in Vancouver so obviously I had to bring home some souvenirs.
For videos, I’m up for any good book content. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Motherhood. Also as someone who has only very rarely gone to concerts but wants to go to more, I’d love some solo concerting advice, even if it’s just a solo concerting pep talk. Or even just your general thoughts on the experience of live music.

I just finished working at a very commercial book shop and it's just not the same as the magic of independent or even franchised book shops. All of our displays were programmed by corporate and it made me so sad. I tried my best to face-out books I loved but it was hard working against the system
