Chuck Berry is not only the father of rock'n'roll, but also the first rapper since he's dropping bars; if you don't believe me, read the lyrics and you'll see that he was the first rapper.
He started it all. My oldest brother’s first record was “Maybelline”, and it was a 78 rpm. The b-side was “In the Wee wee Hours (that’s when I think of you)”. It was 1955 and I was five.
Chuck's 'right hand man' was Johnnie Johnson who did some prodigious work backing Chuck on piano in all of his greatest hits. Johnnie Johnson was elected to The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2009 in the 'Sideman" category - a category for the best studio musicians in the world and others who played parts in famous bands, but were more or less anonymous, because all of the focus was on the big star…..but those stars would never have gotten famous without "The Sidemen"s assistance in filling out and even in part creating the star singer's instrumental trademark sound.
The Rolling Stones, and Beatles were big fans and covered Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Both were really original singer singwriters from the 1950s. Chuck and Little Richard got away with lyrics on some of their songs because we white folk and the record company "suits" didn't understand what they were really singing about! The British in particular were switched onto black blues and early rock. Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Pink Floyd etc reinterpreted black music and brought their music back to an American audience, which revived the careers of many black artists; B B King, Howling Wolf along with the music of Robert Johnson (1936/37) to name but three.
Chuck knew what he had in Spades - TALENT. He was one confident son of a gun! He was a Great musician, guitarist, singer, performer and song writer - he had it all.
A true artist. A man who would just show up and work. He didn't care who he played with. Would pull up in his car with his guitar and go in and play with any house band.
What we think of Chuck Berry!! He is it man!! One of the three creators of it all, Mrs. RosettaTharpe, Little Richard and Chuck. They invented it all man. What else is there to say. It is you young black youths who ignore in a majority about it. Only a few of you realize that those people were admirable human beings.
Rosetta Tharpe started it all. Fats Domino was doing it as early as the late 1940s. Berry and Little Richard and their distinctive sounds came after Elvis was doing Rock/rockabilly.
I saw Chuck in a small vacation town in Canada in the 1970's when I was a teenager and he was still rockin'. It's kind of hard to get his act in these old clips. You don't get the feel or his antics there as it was early tv and everything is rather stilted. Anyway, good reaction. Cheers
A late comment, I know. I like your mellow appearance and I love that you don't stop and interrupt. You wait to the end to comment. Thank you, sir. Upvote from me. ☺
Most people know Johnny B. Good from Back to the future he was awesome. I suggest Nadine and Roll over Beethoven as well. Then check out people he influenced, someone like ZZ top or anyone that came after him lol
One of the greatest... there are many bands and individuals that were influenced by Chuck Berry such as the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Bob Dylan to name a few. If I'm not mistaken I think it was Dylan that said Chuck Berry was the Shakespeare of rock and roll. Another great song he did was "Roll Over Beethoven" which the Beatles would later do.
One the first day God created earth Chuck Berry was already there. He was the godfather of rock and roll. Almost every rock and roll guitarist has tried to mimick him but he was an original. Check out reel and rocking
I like that you do not talk over the videos. Sometimes its frustrating when something great happens or is said and the reactor is yapping away about something and misses it. I think it is an ok option to stop the video and comment (though I know that bugs some viewers) another option I recently came across is a reactor who edits in what he was thinking in thought balloons afterwards.
Great choice for a video! Love your genuine love for the music and the animated, natural vibe which accompanies your reactions to these songs! Please also check out Chuck Berry's "Johnny B Goode" (ua-cam.com/video/6ROwVrF0Ceg/v-deo.html), "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Roll Over Beethoven" and continuing doing what you do!
Check out Little Stevie Wonder - Fingertips Parts 1 & 2. He was 12 years old. I can still remember where I was when this first played on the radio. It (and he) was amazing. There are so many others - Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys (psychedelic rock), Jackie Wilson, The Righteous Brothers, ZZ Top (anything by them) - Jimi Hendrix thought Billy Gibbons was the best guitar player ever. Bob Seger, Wilson Picket, Sly and the 'Family Stone, Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker and more.
Chuck had the same problem as Elvis. He shook just a little too much below the waist for the sensors so the camera zoomed in on his face when he did the split jack off with the guitar. You never see the real Chuck Berry in these videos. Most of what made him outrageous and a rebel is lost to the film editors. In concert he made Elvis the Pelvis look tame. He was fearless in a day when there was much to fear. He really was a pioneer.
Love this and give you a lot of kudos for being so young but including this in your repertoire so you can expose others to one of the true pioneers of Rock & Roll who influenced some of the greatest names in the business! You would do well to get the DVD "Legends of Rock & Roll" which features James Brown, Bo Diddley, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino and B/B. King in a rare concert in Rome filled in 1989 in which they not only succeeded but introduced one another! On the female tip, The Chantels, The Shirelles, The Ronettes ("Be My Baby"), The Angels ("My Boyfriend's Back") and The Chiffons ("He's So Fine") as well as Little Eva ("Locomotion") and Dee Dee Sharp were the icons of this era. And I would recommend, personally, you listen to Murray the K's Big Holiday Revue from 1963 & 1964 when you have time: ua-cam.com/video/yiyk63eXXqQ/v-deo.html
I don't know and this is a sad realization. I know that in NYC public schools only in the my junior high school was music instrument mandatory to learn. I think it all comes down to funding and/or being around musicians. We don't have many influencers for the youth, many of the music influencers come out of the Church Settings. {In my Opinion} And there is a lot of sampling of musical instruments now days it's so easy to push a button to get the instrument sound so most artists can cut a track just to make the money.
An instrument was usually the tool allow people to express themselves when people weren't listening or to dig themselves out of poverty. If you had money as a family and it was an elective, then you were on a different level. So, in short the computer took over the hunger to learn music instruments, I think.
hello look don't mix me estones rolings with chuck berry please is more chuck berry is not from the mass wave if maybe there is a little influence but no chuck berry they stole all his meditation so only in getting out live in buston that the big boys took the copy but rollings appear on stage in 175 or 165 at least that mitger affirms that his inspiration came from chuck berry well that as I say please do not mix me rolings in chuck berry garcias
how do you say that I can improve? Again...this was a test run, but I have been getting copyright strikes...I was wondering the best way to get around that. Any constructive advice would be appreciated, thank you Jim
He had so much stage presence and attitude. And his lyrics were great. And his quirky dance routines. Truly an original and the pioneer of R&R.
I love Chuck .
Thanks, great reaction. Chuck Berry is one of my favorite singer.
Chuck Berry is not only the father of rock'n'roll, but also the first rapper since he's dropping bars; if you don't believe me, read the lyrics and you'll see that he was the first rapper.
Thanks , such a great video! The dancing is just amazing!!
I love the lyrics to this song
Great Guiter Master👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Love me some Chuck Berry.... he was super popular and everyone loved his music. Lost him recently R.I.P ...♡
Try the "you can't catch me" Chuck Berry He played in a way that melds well with the piano
When I think of Rock 'n' Roll, it's Chuck Berry that comes to mind.
Chuck was the godfather of rock-n-roll
Ah, nope, as I have explained in a number of post I have made on this thread.
He started it all. My oldest brother’s first record was “Maybelline”, and it was a 78 rpm. The b-side was “In the Wee wee Hours (that’s when I think of you)”. It was 1955 and I was five.
The " duck walk" .Angus Young (ACDC) do the same steps. RollingStones,Beatles,The Who , all that british bands loved Chuck Berry.
Luv Me some Chuck Berry...thanks for the knowledge

Saw chuck in early 70,s. Unbelievable chatisma not to mention he is my favorite guitarist
What an experience...Wow...great stuff Ramon, thanks for sharing.

Drop that knowledge, dodiesdiary....That's Real Talk. Much Appreciated for the knowledge. Keep it coming.-Simeon Javohn
What a performer
Chuck knew what he had in Spades - TALENT. He was one confident son of a gun! He was a Great musician, guitarist, singer, performer and song writer - he had it all.
He was quite the performer, composer and writer. But as far as singing goes, he die not rank that well IMHBAO.
Great talent, lived a rough life, but no one can compare...he is unique. I look forward to more of him here.
Be a bloody sad place without Chuck.... No LZ, Yardbirds, Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Status Quo etc etc
A true artist. A man who would just show up and work. He didn't care who he played with. Would pull up in his car with his guitar and go in and play with any house band.
You gotta love Chuck if you say you love rock and roll!!!

Saw him at the Old Waldorf in S.F. in 1980. I didn't know then how lucky I was to see him but I do now.
A late comment, I know.
I like your mellow appearance and I love that you don't stop and interrupt. You wait to the end to comment. Thank you, sir.
Upvote from me. ☺
Chuck was awesome. You LooK exactly Like Jimi Hendrix, I was actually quite shocked.
Your playing Chuck Berry????? I'm subscribing. There is no bad Chuck Berry.

Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe - Monterey Pop Festival It will change your life.
Everyone then watching had to be so tame and just sit or stand there. Its like they dont know what to do :-)
One the first day God created earth Chuck Berry was already there. He was the godfather of rock and roll. Almost every rock and roll guitarist has tried to mimick him but he was an original. Check out reel and rocking
Let's not blaspheme.
He was not as original as you mistakenly believe. He borrowed a lot from Rosetta Tharpe.
The originator of the Rock N Roll Game.
that's what I'm trying to tell people but they don't believe me.
Elvis came before Chuck and Little Richard as far as rockabilly/rock 'n' roll' is concerned.
I like that you do not talk over the videos. Sometimes its frustrating when something great happens or is said and the reactor is yapping away about something and misses it. As I was motorvating over the hill…
You can't make a Rock and Roll stew without a Chuck Berry stock cube
🎸😎🤙
Great performance, though not from 1958. It comes from a Belgian TV show called "...face au public" and dates from 1965. The entire show is on UA-cam.

Dude reminds me of Hendrix when he’s talking idk why
Just saw an interview with Hendrix..was epic, totally in his own zone and space
👍
How about videos by Excello Records srtists like Slim Harpo?(If you can find any)
I would love to do more videos, I just have to find a way to get around the copyright strikes. Thanks for your input.
What I would like to know is what would Chuck Berry think of people today?
Chuck had the same problem as Elvis. He shook just a little too much below the waist for the sensors so the camera zoomed in on his face when he did the split jack off with the guitar. Johnny B Good
Bo Diddley ,how about Bo?
How come nowadays black musicians don't play instruments as much as in the past? My apologies if I'm generalising abt this.
I don't know and this is a sad realization. I know that in NYC public schools only in the my junior high school was music instrument mandatory to learn. I think it all comes down to funding and/or being around musicians. If you grew your hair long you would look a little like jimi Hendrix.
You got to listen to the original recordings not these live clips
Why do you have your Likes, Dislikes and Subscriber count hidden? That always turns me off any channel
I didn't know it was hidden, I am new to UA-cam..I just found out that my comment are automatically turned off on some videos.
I am learning as I go, that's why I need feedback on how to improve and to make videos better.
I will look into now, thanks for the heads up..and let me know if there's anything else missing. Thanks Metal Monkey
This bothers me too...for one I want to easily see how close to your goal you are getting!
Worst audience I ever saw.
lol, you said it ...not me
yugioh
He stole that from Marty McFly....
hello look don't mix me estones rolings with chuck berry please is more chuck berry is not from the mass wave if maybe there is a little influence but no chuck berry they stole all his meditation so only in getting out live in buston that the big boys took the copy but rollings appear on stage in 175 or 165 at least that mitger affirms that his inspiration came from chuck berry well that as I say please do not mix me rolings in chuck berry garcias
Spend too much time talking and showing news of scravers I give you a thumbs down
how do you say that I can improve? Again...this was a test run, but I have been getting copyright strikes...I was wondering the best way to get around that. Any constructive advice would be appreciated, thank you Jim
If you watch later videos, I take advice and try to apply it.
