I don't know honestly Heather sounds a bit like Beyonce tho. They both have dark toned deep voices with Beyonce maybe being a bit lighter then Heather. I do prefer Beyonce's version of 'Can you feel the love tonight" tho Nala was supposed to sound a bit more lighter and younger then what Heather's voice sounds like.

Wow Heather really brought me into my childhood with Whitney vibes like no other. Not to mention Ashley had a sonically pitch perfect performance they both were flawless. I love the diversity in styles here it’s truly lovely !

She was really performing it and not just singing. Even playing to the camera angles. But I think because it is a more sing-songy song and the other ladies had songs with more challenging vocals.

trha2222 well there weren’t many opportunities for women of color in Disney/broadway.
trha2222 Ariel is a fictional character. Her race has nothing to do with the story. She’s white and redhead because the person who drew her, made her that way. She could literally be green and it would have no affect on The story. The little mermaid isn’t apart of anyone’s culture. It’s a children’s story that we watched as kids and as a black man yes I watched it. I had the vhs. Mulan, Merida, tiana, Pocahontas, moana are all characters whose Race/culture is draped in the story. Cinderella, belle, Ariel, aurora, rapunzel, Elsa, Anna can literally be white, black, pink, blue or green because there race has nothing to do with the story. Also, I’m pretty sure you mean white washing. White washing is making cleopatra white, making Jesus white, making the last samurai white, making a Japanese anime character white. Cultural appropriation is taking something from another culture and passing it off as your own. Just because they are casting black women In more roles now, doesn’t mean that there are many opportunities. There were 6 ladies on this stage and only one of them is black. That is a total lack of diversity.

Merle’s voice is amazing she can go from kind and motherly as Kala to mischievous and sinister as Papa Ge. Heather is as always a powerhouse and Susan Egan still sounds the same as she did 20+ years ago.
God, I forgot how much I love Susan Egan. Her voice is so distinct and clear and full of character without being obtuse about it- it just makes me melt into whatever she sings 💖

Heather Headley grew up in my hometown. She comes back occasionally to do concerts & support the community. Was here just last week doing a fundraiser concert. Love her!

I was questioning that myself and technically it is The Lion KING which means, if I am remembering the film correctly, and I'm certain that I am,, it is led by a MALE, Nala may be in in but sorry the movie revolves around a male lion and his male heir son Simba, Nala is the friend/mate nothing more.

This was absolutely spectacular and everyone did a freaking fantastic job, however I have to agree with most of the comments in regards to Heather's performance, she was surely the best of the bunch.

And also. I know they advertise for Broadway Cares, but this is clearly well crafted Disney propaganda geared toward getting people fired up over Frozen again because the new movie is coming out. They start with Frozen and end with Frozen and specifically plug that both ladies from Frozen are on Broadway right now.
@@MeAVE243 Isn't that more of a marketing tactic rather than propaganda though? Like it's not necessarily political and is probably just a way to boost sales. I get that propaganda can be described as a way to make people feel a certain thing (which in this case is interest for Frozen 2), but at the same time it could just be marketing for the Disney shows and movies.
