Welcome back to my series from onboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth. In this episode, we've docked in Puntarenas (Costa Rica), which means it's time to explore not only a brand new port, but also tick off a NEW COUNTRY!
We'll explore the area directly outside the cruise port in the morning, before heading out on an excursion this afternoon. Costa Rica is one of the most ecologically diverse countries on the planet, with a HUGE array of wildlife calling the country home. So, what will we see here?! It's time to head ashore and FIND OUT!

It does amuse me when people say they are scared of heights when you are really and logically scared of the ground. You can fall from great heights and it will not hurt you, it’s when you hit the ground the pain starts😜
Haha, this is so funny - I never thought of it like that! To be honest though, it’s not the ground I’m scared of - it’s the fall, so am I scared of falling? Ha, so funny!
They had to stop at the resort for the last toilet stop for old people like me!😂 🐊bridge looked scary! I hard snakes too…yuck. My daughter & family went to Costa Rica for 2 weeks last year & absolutely loved it. I have a video of my 8-year-old grandson dancing backwards on one of those swinging sky bridges!😂 You were very brave! They spent a week at the coast & a week in the mountains. Sorry you didn’t see a🐒, 🦜or a 🦥. They saw a sloth with a tiny baby on its shoulder, but it was March. Excursion should have been in the morning. Thanks for showing us all the souvenirs-expensive & tourist trap, but hope it helps the local economy. Can’t get to the forest from walking off the ship. Really struggling since COVID & still a very poor country. What a beautiful sail-away! Room service looked good, & nice to relax. I’d worry about packing so many dressy clothes. Can’t video the shows because of copyrights. Great editing and video! Full day!

Fraser what a sunset just amazing sorry you didn’t see any wildlife. I was disappointed when we did a similar excursion in Belize they said we would see toucans and monkeys for sure but nothing was spotted. You have to make the best of it it was still an adventure that we enjoyed how many people can say they walked the jungles of Belize 😄

Loved this day! Great job facing your fears. 😊 Loved the wildlife, even the ants. Sorry, but a lot of us are shoppers. 😂😂 I do like the Christmas ornaments. Easy to pack and a reminder of where we were. I admit though, I would take more wildlife watching, scenery, pictures of them any day!

@FraserAtSea 🤣 I admit it! Not nearly as much as some but after using the restroom, it's usually impossible to get out without buying a little thing. 😁 I love the magnets; small and easy to carry. Those shirt prices were crazy!!
I'm afraid of heights too, Fraser. It didn't look like my kind of excursion but it's probably a once in a lifetime experience. Looking forward to the Panama Canal video.

You were just down the road from me, that restaurant and souvenir shop is a stop for all tours and typically the CR economy does take advantage of tourists. My town is a tourist trap too but you could have gotten the same shirt for about $10 if you had traveled about 30 kilometers south. You would fit in here because the Costa Ricians love their mayo and fries.
Oh, do they really?! That’s so funny - I love Mayo with my fries - my absolute favourite craving, ha!
Interesting to know your town is much cheaper - I did find this place to be so expensive!

Just started watching and I’m so excited at what wildlife you will see. If there are sloths I will love you forever and also be more green with envy at you seeing flamingos, pelicans and sloths… all my favourites!!

Wildlife is difficult to see when going on preplanned excursions, animals like to avoid the heat too, so early mornings are the best time to see the monkeys, birds, and wildlife. For sloths, you really have to go to a sanctuary as they live in the trees and may not come down for weeks and then only take care of necessary sanitary activities.

Loved your video. Makes you wonder how much you get to see the animals. Would be more honest to say a tree top tour with amazing foliage. QE fan after cruise last year so anything about QE I find interesting as well.

Hey, thank you! Yeah, sometimes excursions are best - I wouldn’t have felt too confident doing this one on my own. As I wanted(!) to try and see wildlife here, I was aware I’d need to leave the port - thought the excursion route was safest.

How are you handling being on the QE on the “younger” side of the typical Cunard demographic? (me being very much part of the typical demographic!) With that said you don’t have 100’s of screaming kids onboard too…

Hey, good question, and I absolutely loved it! So many of my friends would say I’m ‘old before my time’ I’m sure, but I loved how chilled it was. That said, I was ready by my 14th night to get off - I’d maybe have gone mad/been TOO relaxed staying on there for the Transatlantic…!!
