I don't feel like I explained #5 very well. What I was trying to explain was: 1. You can set limits on your stuff by not having too much of it 2. You can set limits on your stuff by only allowing certain things in certain rooms 3. You can set limits on your stuff by allowing the container or place that you keep the things to be the limit. Hope that makes sense!
I completely agree with you on the Christmas gifts! My childrens' grandparents would load them up with toys to the point where they would get overwhelmed when it was time to clean up. We finally had to have a talk with the grandparents and let them know that quality time was more important to the kids.
I love how calm, confident, and kindly you explained the primciples you follow for serting boundaries with extended family for gifts etc. God bless you!
I am a homeschooling mom of five kids 12 and under. I say that only so you can get an idea how messy the house can get in a day!!! The two best tips I have are to never leave a room empty handed. Meaning always be picking up out of place things. Also, the one-touch rule. If i am going to pick something up, I will put it in its home the first time rather than sit it on the table only to be picked up again later. We also do a whole family 5 min tidy before lunch and after dinner.
My younger kids stack the dishes on the counter from the dishwasher and I put them on the shelves on top. They put the utensils, pots, pans, cutting boards, no breakables away themselves because those are in lower cabinets.

That sounds like a great system! Maybe I can teach my son to stack the dishes on the counter when he's just a little bit taller 😄
