how to make the pattern designs and what software is best?.. Photoshop?

Manuel Dequiño the end result is all that matters. As long as you end up with an image you like, it doesn't matter what software you use. Just whatever you're comfortable with. Use photoshop, gimp, even paint if you really know what you're doing. The two main best ones I can think of would be photoshop and gimp. I like to use gimp. It can do a lot that photoshop can do, it just takes more steps. Best of all, it's free.
